Honestly, I didn’t like Jayce at first. He seemed way too over his head, egotistical but ignorant, lacked backbone, and seemed kinda vanilla compared to the others.
But upon second viewing it I saw the complexity and tragedy of his character.
Here’s a man who tried his best to be good. Hextech, politics, becoming a counselor were all done in an effort to do good.
But he was too ignorant of the world around him. That ignorance made him too weak to create his own opinions in the face of characters like Mel and Ambessa. It made him prejudice against Zaunites and blind to the suffering of those around him. He tried to learn.
He learned from Mel and Ambessa. He learned from his mistakes regarding Viktor. And he learned from observing the suffering around him. And finally learned that the good thing to do was to free Zaun and create peace but once he did the damage had already been done.
That made him so human. And I sympathize with his character.
He truly tried to do good but his tragedy is that he learned what “good” was far too late.
For that I love his character.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. The thing is though, sometimes those good people have no clue what to do. Give a person who wants to do good the knowledge and experience to make good decisions, and the world is all but assured to change.

The most underrated character of arcane. A lot of people just don’t get the character or don’t understand his writing. It’s a shame because he is such a great character.

Just recently saw a post in insta about jace; and truly couldn’t believe the amount of people that hate him. They were even saying nonsense s about the character lol. He may have made bad decisions here and there but still it confuses me how some give him extreme hate as if he’d affected their lives at a personal level. I mean it’s fine disliking a character but to bad mouth it is a whole new. Especially the fact that its a fictional one lol.

In LoL, Singed is a mad scientist-chemist that runs around poisoning people, Jinx is a crazy lunatic that just wants to destroy stuff, Vi just wants to punch people, etc. I think Ekko was the only one to have his character displayed very closely to both his Game lore and the Show lore. Its very clear that the purpose of Arcane is to characterize everyone and give them a deeper amount of depth, and its succeeding.
Jayce is a type of person that has a simple archetype. They start out naive and want to be a good person and help everyone, grow and realize just how impossible and difficult it is, carry on and also become part of the problem. BUT, Jayce here actually LEARNS from his mistakes, from both experience and enlightenment. He wants to change and to carry on his dream but this time, less idealistically and more clear minded. He learns to have his own opinions and to compromise himself. Jayce is as complex as a character as everyone else in this series, and I am really glad Riot is not doing the "Bad Just Cause" schlick and gave everyone character. The fact that some of the viewers managed to dismiss Jayce character as the classic "snobby rich genius" is just sad.
Personally though, I like Ekko the most.
Also because it's a story and his arc is as nuanced as everyone else's. If all characters forever made the *right*choices, there wouldn't be no story. But anyway. Sad to see people hate on him, i like him a lot and find him very relatable.
Jayce and Silco could have mended the wounds, honestly. But they both are prisoners in their respective systems. Tragic.

Jayce is one of my favorite characters in Arcane. Nowhere is his motivation illustrated better than the scene where he's looking through his old journals and finds the drawing that he made of himself as a hammer-wielding wizard superhero as a kid. Everything he does, he does because he wants to help people, even if the desire at its core is radically naive. But then, watching him try to navigate that naive hope into reality, first with hextech, then by submitting to the corruption of Piltover's political system when he becomes a councilor and initially tries to root out that corruption, and finally when he and Vi teamup to take the fight to Silco. For a few moments, Jayce is everything he ever wanted to be: powerful, taking action, fighting the GOOD fight...
... And then he kills the kid and everything comes crashing down.
That sequence and the argument with Vi afterward just might be my favorite scene in the show. Jayce is forced to finally see just what horror he can reak with his power and knowledge whether he intends it or not, just a fraction of the horror that Heimerdinger was so terrified of, and he finds his naive ideal, that childhood drawing he made, shattering around it. If he wants to do good, it will not be as simple as he once thought it would be. It never will be.
Yet, he still doesn't stop trying to help people. Even if he doesn't believe he has any good options left, he still tries to take the one that he feels is least bad, making peace with Silco by giving Zaun independence. Not perfect as Silco is a ruthless druglord kingpin, but he recognizes Piltover's role in creating him and that nothing will change if they don't own up to that. And for a few shining moments, it seems like he's finally succeeded. The fact that he had been willing to bend his principles beforehand pays off with his bond with Mel bringing her to his side, whose own influence on the council leads to him winning the vote... just in time for Jinx's rocket to hit.
No idea where Jayce's storyline is going in Season 2, but whether he manages to rise above this tragedy to truly become a hero or falls down to horrific extremism, I can't wait to see where he goes from here!

Jayce's entire arc focuses on two things:
The weight of having to deal with and fix the mistakes and consequences of those before us, especially when the world doesn't want to learn and change (i.e. Heimerdinger's traditionalist paranoia, Piltover Council's corruption & decadence, Zaun's horrible situation creating Silco, Jinx and Singed, Viktor's disease)....
...and the inevitable cost of our efforts and mistakes when trying to make things better, even from things completely outside our control and awareness (i.e. Hextech weaponry, Jayce being forced to engage in politicking with the Council, Viktor's change and future with the Hexcore, the factory boy's death, Jinx's madness and anarchy, Mel's death and the future war between Piltover and Zaun).
We're doomed to suffer for the mistakes of the past, and the consequences of trying to change the world, even when we have committed no intentional crime ourselves.

I found Jayce to be one of the best characters in arcane , him and Viktor, it was just great.
Jayce feels like a man desperately trying to do the right thing but the world just keeps pushing him like a wild wave, going one direction to another. He’s the guy you’re hoping makes it through the other side with everything still intact, primarily his objective of doing good things. And you can see it, Jayce and Viktor made many things kept developing things but once his position changed the things he had to face started to overcome him. He’s a character you wanna see come out the same but there’s a part of me that knows that the rocket coming through that window isn’t gonna be stopped by a mysterious character there to save the day or the it’s not gonna go off. No the range, there being barely any cover, there’s no escaping that and a part of me considers that both his lover and his best friend may be doomed to die.
Viktor ain't gonna die there.

I know Vi, Caitlin, Jinx and Ekko are the cool badasses of the show that everyone loves but to me. Jayce Talis is the best and most interesting character on Arcane he's so complex all he wanted was to do good and help people.
Jayce is a good and determined man.

Jayce is the Embodiment of being too GOOD for the World, he is changed by the people around and making him realize how even his good intentions can be twisted by the world, instead of picking the greater of 2 Goods he has to pick the lesser of 2 Evils. Ppl be hating on him for his character just like irl ppl love great villains more than Good Samaritans, if the general hates Jayce for that then i guess our society is really fukked if it wasn't fukked enough already.
and i guess thats also why Viktor will turn into Cyborg no emotion kind of Guy, because Yes Emotions Hold grudges and Anger, its the main source of trouble and conflict, he probably knows how Jayce can never be what he is truly meant to be bcoz of corrupted parasites that leech off of his successes and good intentions for the people and his country.
on a small population scale emotion does wonders for the community but when it becomes a wider range of people the public is more open to suggestions from outside forces on how to think or behave rather than the more guarded single person. so when charismatic speakers show up whether good or bad a portion of the public will follow

Jayce is the incarnation of the hero.
He was just a boy with a dream, he work hard for his dream and achieve the dream to use the magic in science when nobody believe in him.
He is a true friend for Viktor, a really good protector for Cait and a man of honor.
The bad flaw of Jayce come with his pure and truly good heart, he is litteraly to good for the world he live in.
The popularity, the power, the politic, Jayce never want this, Jayce just want to be a part of the scientific progress.
Arcane did a great job to portray why sometimes, really good people can make bad choice or difficult choise.
The futur evolution of Jayce into a egoitistical hero is really interesting with his lore in arcane.
You can obviously understand why after the trust he give to VI /Cait /Silco /The council /Viktor and the obvious futur problem (death, betray), he is going to be a asshole egoist in the futur

That cuts deep considering the current cliff we're standing upon... War, weapons, destruction... it cannot be undone or unmade. We cannot undo the terrible things we do, but we can... we can realize the fruitlessness of such things. We can learn from the wars and weapons, and educate our youngest on the damage it could do in the wrong hands... but we can never unmake them or the research that lead to them, unfortunately.
What a profound, layered thought.
War is never fruitless. It is the primary catalyst for innovation. It makes people realize how fragile life is. It made warmongers cherish the peace they once had. War connects people in a way that peace never could. It makes people closer than peace ever could. The only thing peace leads to is war.

I LOVE how Jinx is only slightly mentioned here, just like in Jace's story he bearly knows anything about her. Hell, the only time she appears is in Vis Backflash, and even then she's more Powder, than Jinx.
He's never even seen her. He has next to no idea what she stands for or what's her goal here.
last night i didn't have time to watch this. today i did. and it ran on loop for a while........
brilliantly display of his character's beauty, an upgrade to his original lore persona. your bring out the already great performance of the show. the parallels and developments are very well demonstrated.
i have one tiny complain : between 1:40 and 3:47 background edited music(eternal eclipse i think?) is louder than dialogues. a small missed mistake. happens. everything else is completely in tune and place creating quite a masterpiece of its own.
these Arcane edits of yours were a breath of fresh air among your content. and due to such phenomenal source material, your creative content truly shines.
