    That slat wall is absolutely brilliant.

  • @FallLineJP
    @FallLineJP Před měsícem +3

    I love the slat wall! That is such a cool idea.
    One thing that I might suggest to add to the design is a thin spacer strip buried down between the individual shelf protrusions, the exact width of the space between the slats. This would allow the slats to be perfectly parallel to each other and not let them rock side to side at all as you use the wall. Should not be very visible except when viewed head on (and could be painted white to camouflage them further).
    Fantastic work! 👍🏻👍🏻💪

    Love seeing some painting of cabinets to make modern woodworking. Really elevating your design here, those toys are very good options to make it look sleep. This is something I would want to make and sell. Wife is lucky. Thanks for walking us through all the steps.

    Really happy to see you sticking with your long form videos vs the ~10-15 most others do!

    I don't know if you know but they make drawer glides that are "push to open". Everything I've made for my shop has them and they're great. I never bang my hip on a protruding drawer pull anymore. They are side mount, however. I don't know if they make undermount glides that are push to open. Great job man! The desk has a nice clean look and that wall is amazing!

    Kudos!!! I’m trying to get into parametric design with my CNC but the amount of waste was a deterrent. That’s a great idea to make the slats and ‘bump out’ separately. Now just to figure out the design and layout. Keep up the great work!

    • @MWAWoodworks
      @MWAWoodworks  Před 2 měsíci

    35:00 Correctly laying out 126 features on the backing board sounds like something the CNC should be doing!
    Even if it can't (easily) cut the biscuit-like feature, the CNC could at least score the locations, doing all the measuring for you and letting you easily line up the tool for the final cut.

    • @eingamel
      @eingamel Před měsícem

      Another way to make it easier but without a CNC, is to have the spacer strip have slots cut into it that match the locations of the dry fit biscuits in the slots you just cut. So instead of just butting the spacer up against the biscuits, the spacer fits onto the biscuits, and when the strip is flush to the table, it should have all the markings and everything perfectly aligned without measuring, as long as you measured everything correctly the first time. This also means that the spacer needs to be wide enough to take a set of the slots.

    • @MWAWoodworks
      @MWAWoodworks  Před měsícem

      Thats a great idea! If I made these all the time I would definitely make a permanent jig like that 😃

    • @MWAWoodworks
      @MWAWoodworks  Před měsícem

      The issue would be visibility the way the Lamello works lining up with a mark on the base would be hard, not to mention the story stick is really clutch as both a positive stop and a place to "see" my mark.

    You know no one ever goes into how to specifically set up and use those track saw accessories. I tried Ron Paul's set up video of the parrallels but I've never been happy and I never use them. How do you read the flip stops. How do you set them up for consistency. Even the square makes me angry. I find myself still bringing in an engineer square from both sides to check my sanity. Would love to see a video on that

    I've been considering parametric slice modeling for something similar with shelving for plants but I worry about the rigidity of it when it comes to an applied side load (someone knocking into it).
    In the video you used tensor clips, do you think they would withstand someone bumping them(maybe dowels or dominos instead and just tensors over the stud screws)? Making a more shallow shelf would help but I love the way yours looks and now I'm set into making it.

      There's definitely some "flex" on some of the pieces with wider profiles just due to simple leverage. How much force it would take to actually break the connection I don't know as I was primarily focused on whether it could hold potted plants which it seems to do with ease.

    Thx for pointing out the wrong door hinges. We are getting ready to remodel our RV and there will be 1 possibly 2 cabinet doors that will open towards the side of another cabinet wall, so 90 degrees. What is the proper terminology to make sure we get the right hinge?
    Also I’ve seen your island build but it doesn’t have a toe kick around all 4 sides, any recommendations on how to do these while maintaining strength? My thought is to build a base with some internal dividers like in a “torsion box” and then build the island cabinets with a solid bottom and attach to the base after I’ve secured it to the floor. Any other thoughts? Thx
