This is one of their best tunes. The Band was Bob Dylan's backing band. Watch the movie The Last Waltz. Rick Danko the bass player does the vocals for this one! 👍👍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️❤️❤️

It may be worth reacting to the live version from “The Last Waltz”. It’s amazing and always gives me chills.
On a slightly different note, years ago I was privileged to meet and speak with Mavis Staples who sang on The Weight for The Last Waltz. I told her I had a crush on her after watching The Weight! She was so nice.

There's elements of country in their music, but theyre best described as, "Americana" a type of roots rock.
Rick Danko's vocals are so full of raw, genuine emotion in this song, it gets me every time.
"Stage Fright" is another great showcase for his vocals.
Now you are dabbling in a great band. It's a very different rabbit hole to go down for sure.
1st time hearing this one! They kind of 😮💨 remind me of The Grateful Dead! The lyrics are very poignant and profound! 👍 Groovy track!

This band, The Band, was the first group to do country rock or the Americana genre. Check out their finally concert as a group, a film by Martin Scorsese, The Last Waltz. This group had three leading vocalists, Leon Helms, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko, whom you just heard. Rick Danko , On lead vocal , with such a haunting soulful lead vocal , but when Levon Helm and Richard Manuel join in on those harmony vocals it just hits you right in the heart and soul , and Robbie Robertson and Garth Hudson dancing with each other on the fade out on guitar and saxophone , The best white Rhythm and Blues song ever recorded, THE BAND had no equals

These guys are more roots rock - Skynyrd is southern rock - there is some overlap - they had great vocal harmonies- listen to "The Weight" with the Staples Singers playing with them - outstanding!

So cool, Angela, that you're beginning you're exploration into The Band. They were a group that laboured in the background for so many years before striking it out on their own. Originally, they were The Hawks, the backing band behind rocker Ronnie Hawkins, added one by one as he needed to fill certain spots within his band. Drummer Levon Helm was the longest serving member, hailing from Hawkins own Arkansas. Guitarist Robbie Robertson was next of the group to join, though he started on bass. Hawkins and the Hawks became one of the hottest bands playing the clubs from Toronto down through the US. Their shows were legendary and the Hawks were one of the hottest and tightest bands around. Check out their cover of Who Do You Love for a prime example of how incredibly good they were.
Eventually, the group decided they wanted to go a different direction than Ronnie wanted so they parted ways. They bounced around from show to show but struggled to get much recognition outside the club and bar scene. After a few years of struggle, they managed to score enough respect from Bob Dylan to be his backing group on his 1965 world tour. The audiences weren't always enthusiastic but they soldiered on together, adding a '66 tour as well. By 1967, they were all living in a home near Woodstock, New York when they began recording their first album in the basement. That work was so different from everything else, yet very memorable and catchy that they quickly became 'overnight sensations'. Their influence was immediate, grabbing the attention of George Harrison of The Beatles as well as giving inspiration to The Grateful Dead to play a more rootsy style. The Band sound was a mix of Country/Bluegrass, Blues, R&B, Rock and Spiritual that no one else was playing at the time.
Whether their songs were hits or not, they were all well received and often covered and imitated. Their last show together was captured in the Martin Scorsese film, The Last Waltz, and there are so many amazing performances as they played with many friends and legends in the music industry.
One of the many highlights of the film was when The Staples joined them onstage for an incredible version of their own song, The Weight. While the footage isn't from the actual concert, it's an amazing look at how The Band could mix with any act and all together could make the recording sound like magic.
This is one of my all time favorite songs, and I'm glad you reacted to it. In my opinion the live versions of this song are better. If you do more Band reactions, I would recommend doing a live performance. I saw The Band twice in concert, and they were fabulous. Truly talented musicians.

It was a great experience. While living in Denmark, I also saw Rick Danko. He played alone, with just an acoustic guitar. It was a very small venue with only around 60 people. He was fabulous. Afterwards anyone in attendance was able to go back stage and speak with him. I was nervous, but he turned out to be one of the nicest and most humble person I ever met.@@lewstone5430

The Band were around a long time before Bob Seger and Lynryd Skynyrd (the five of them were together from 1961) so I think the influence ran from The Band to those guys.
All of the members of THE BAND play multiple instruments....the guy the small curved soprano sax plays piano, organ, accordion

As @patrick... mentioned that was a great movie/concert ... if you have two minutes to spare ... Neil Young whom played on this said concert . The song is "Helpless" great tune... It cost Martin$250,000 to remove the cocaine out of Neil's nostrils. Neil has a great two minute song that might possibly think you are listening in too long ... but want it to go on for more... The song " Love in Mind"

The Band had three gifted singers Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel. Rick Danko was lead here. Many consider Richard Manuel was one of the greatest rock vocalists.

For my first official request, how about I've Got The Blues, by the Rolling Stones.(studio version) it's a bluesy ballad with a smoky organ solo by Billy Preston in the middle. : )

RIP Robbie Robertson. Check out other great songs of THE BAND- "Up on Cripple Creek" and "The Night they drove Old Dixie Down." I think you would like songs from another great artist. Her name is Rhiannon Giddens. She sings songs similar as the same genre as The Band. "You're the one" and "way Over Yonder" are good songs of hers. She also does a great cover version of "Jackson" by Johnny Cash when she was with a group called The Carolina Chocolate Drops.
