“Over the years, the Alliance Global Group, as ably led by Kevin Tan, has always been a committed and reliable partner of the government in nation-building, particularly in terms of tourism investments,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said after leading the capsule laying ceremony of the Mactan Expo Center at Barangay Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City on 27 April 2024.
In his keynote speech, the President commended the pioneering live-work-play township development carried out by the Alliance Global Group, mentioning that the Mactan Newtown is the latest testament of the company’s commitment to the nation’s progress.
Megaworld, the country’s leading property developer, is building the PhP1.5 billion Mactan Expo Center that aims to generate more employment and business opportunities, solidify the country’s position as an events destination and entice even more investments.
“Additionally, the convention center, being situated here in the beautiful island of Mactan, is a really strategic development, especially considering its vicinity to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and to world-class resorts and hotel developments here in the island,” President Marcos Jr. remarked.
Likewise, he emphasized that by constructing the Mactan Expo Center, the country would be able to effectively host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events while promoting the growth of the tourism industry.
He cited the government's continuous investments in Lapu-Lapu City, mentioning the 2024 funding of PhP2.9 billion from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the City's infrastructure projects. These include road widening projects that will greatly help decongest traffic along major thoroughfares such as the Mactan Circumferential Road and the Mactan Airport Road.
Furthermore, the government will also pursue major projects aimed at improving road connectivity and addressing traffic congestion, such as the official development assistance (ODA)-assisted Cebu-Mactan 4th Bridge and Lapu-Lapu City Coastal Road.
“I am certain that we all share the same excitement and happiness to witness how Megaworld will transform the Mactan Newtown into a bustling business and learning district,” he added.
The Chief Executive conveyed his profound gratitude to the Alliance Global Group, Megaworld and the City Government of Lapu-Lapu for forging the partnership and setting a great example for other localities and businesses to follow.
“I look forward to that glorious day when we will be gathered once again to finally witness the completion of the project, and ready to welcome guests from the rest of the country and the world,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his speech.
