@@binsaremyfinsbamf7173 kinda the clock capacitor situation is silently killing many of the og xboxes (which is really problematic when we still don't have the OG xbox emulated with a good level of compatibility.

Congrats. I still have the Xbox slim I made back in the day but I did it the hard way by cutting down the existing case, installing clear windows, LEDs, etc. Didn't have a 3D printer back then, lol.

Cool project I was looking for stuff like this. I hope Xbox will make this but I doubt it because of backwards compatibility and that it probably is not considered old enough to be nostalgic enough to og fans yet since it was released in the early 2000’s but it would still be a blast from the past even for people like me that didn’t get to play the og Xbox.

Please make a tutorial about a psu mod! I recently has an Xbox with a faulty psu (1.6). I thinking about a pico psu mod, but I think you have a wider knowledge about in this field. So maybe you can do some awesome thing about this!

I had a quick question on this being a 1.6 motherboard and I see you only used 4 wires to connect as the power supply input and was just wondering on which points you put which power too I'm currently trying to make my own supply but cannot figure out with which points I need to be using and I would very much appreciate it very much and I'm not looking to steal your design or anything just tryna get my old one back to life

This would definitely sell more than the nintendo ones. Maybe give it online multiplayer functions for games like halo, and it would sell like hotcakes. Especially if it was easy to mod like every other mini console, then they'd maybe even corner the emulation market bc that would be able to run gamecube games
My only worry would be using a step up and step down converter for power.
Those cheaper units can have problems maintaining a stable voltage above certain power loads.
That exact step up converter is one I've used before and is a serious fire hazard if you don't attach some form of heatsink.
Having no DVD drive could also be an issue for some. Not every Rom you find online works and my personal xbox hates FTP so I'd have to transfer those through USB or burn a physical disc.
Also. For those willing to attempt this at home, you'll have to add in your own steps to mod your XBOX to support HDMI natively. The official component cable packs are ridiculously expensive now.
They aren't cheaper units. The are properly rated for the task from a robotics supplier named polulu. If your box hates FTP then I recommend Fatxplorer

About Microsoft.No,i don´t believe that we ever gonna see anything like this as a legit iteration.It hasn´t happened yet,despite the many years that have passed since they waved goodbye to the original black box (the extremely easy earned money that Nintendo gained from their mini consoles, must by now have sparked the idea from ALL current and past manufacturers of home game entertainment/computer hardwares,to do the same thing.And.let´s face it,Microsoft choosed NOT TO do it with OG Xbox !).Something that really,really makes me PISSED OFF with Microsoft although,is that they refuses to offer a simple and easy-to-get solution for Windows softwares,released before the Vista !.Not even the XP is compatible with all,for example,Win 95 softwares.But when they released Vista,and unplugged the compatibility for EVERYTHING that was spelled DOS,they spit the whole world of computer users in our faces,and laughed at us !.All i ask for is a hardware (?..) kind of "station",that enabled games and softwares from MS-DOS up to ME to run on a typical current flatscreen.All we got was some semi hearted,software based,attempt to offer some "general porting project" named "Dosbox"...(too advanced for many typical users,and even with a proper settings installation,it´s far,far from being an final solution !).I would GLADLY pay 400 dollars for a special little "PC box" (or "PC Ages" perhaps ?.-"Little Windows to the past"..) with fair specifications.-If they have to,even "skipping the floppy drive" (if it´s too hard to find a descent such modern manufacturer) would be a reasonable decision !.But it just hasn´t happened.And it will not happen.Microsoft released a branded hardware unit,partly as an accessory to Xbox 360,-but ALSO for Windows Vista-,for playing "HD DVD" records.We all knows what happened with HD DVD.But for all the millions of us who bought Microsoft´s own player then ?.Sorry,no other Xbox OR Windows system since that has drivers for just that actual Microsoft branded player.Not even if you would feel for PAYING for such drivers,they just don´t offer it !.THAT is Microsoft in a nutshell !."Oh,you have Microsoft related software discs from yesterday ?.Well,we have a partial compatibility for that,if you put ´em into the vertical slot placed under your back/between your buttocks.And welcome back,dear customer !".All that matters,is what they can make at least five instant zillion bucks on,TODAY. So this in an Xbox without the PSU inside in a 3D printed case?
That's what I got from this... removed the DVD drive, installed an SSD, and externalized the PSU... For all intents.. that case could've been lower profile, and I'm surprised he didn't apply an internal HDMI mod while he was at it...
Yeah mod chip and 80 wire ide too, I think I would've done the ram upgrade while I was in there too, but its not a bad job overall
The HDMI mod came out as I was making this ( there is a reference to it on the box I made) I was sort of trying to avoid scope creep with the project and decided not to do it. I also wanted to a ogx360 as well, getting it finished was more important to me

The mod you may want to do next is replacing the video out with an on board HDMI (they sell a kit that fits the hole). I saw the caps and GPU heatsink change and was like he switched boards!, then read your description lol.

can't really make it much smaller while still using original hardware lol. I personally wouldn't have soldered to the pins of the power connector, and instead populated the required pins on the original plug. and with your skills i'll bet if you put a little more time into that power converter board you could shrink that down rather significantly too. Hope to see you doing some bigger and more advanced projects in the future, good luck.

(Imagine tho, Microsoft making an Xbox Mini where there are 3 versions released to the public: a stock version w/ up to 4k support on 1 or 2 games, mainly SOT), a homebrew development version with a full dev tool kit on the bigger hard drive) and a version pre-soft modded by Microsoft out of the (x)box w/ bigger than stock storage and all models come with an Xbox controller to USB adapter)
That WAS a quiet project.
