It was Edward VII who made Buckingham Palace more into what it's like now.
When you see things like that the representation or which ever of the countries that make either GB or the UK up (though Wales because it being a Prince of Pality doesn't usually get represented). It's like with the Crown Jewels, especially with the Imperial State Crown they actually mean something each bit of it, like the Black Princes Ruby (though it's not a Ruby its a spinal). Is what Henry V I believe it was took into the Battle of Agincourt.

I visited the royal mews in 2009 on a trip with my daughter for her 21'st birthday. I was very excited to see the Australian Coach. It was presented to Queen Elizabeth II as the official gift on the occasion of the Australian Bicentennial on 8th May 1988. Proud to be an Aussie.
I hope it gets used in the coronation in some way!

Believe it or not, hand on my heart it’s true, my dad was a chauffeur in Royal service and we lived at the Royal Mews. As a kid, it was a different world. When I lived there (early 60s) we were required to be on best behavior at all times. We had to wear a collar and tie and a cap and we had to raise our hats to all adults. On the plus side, I’ve sat in the Queens Rolls Royce (for about 20 seconds and wasn’t allowed to touch anything) and I also got to sit in the Gold Coach for about 10 seconds. I’ve always maintained, the Royal Mews is where they keep the horses, the carriages, the cars and the servants…..in that order 😊
Except they're not called 'Servants' anymore. They are members of staff, each with a specific title referencing their particular employment functions. 👍😉😁

Years ago, 1969, I saw the Queen, Prince Philip and Princess Anne in the Scottish State Coach. I was shopping in Edinburgh and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The coach and horses were beautiful and I was amazed by how clearly I could see the Royal family. The glass roof makes all the difference and the height of the carriages mean that even people at the back of the crowd can see.

Of course my favorite coach in the royal mews is The Australian State Coach being Australian .The coach was presented to Queen Elizabeth II of Australia and the United Kingdom as the official gift on the occasion of the Australian Bicentennial on 8 May 1988,
I think also it's a testament to the incredible workmanship of the builders and the newest one shows that it's important to keep these crafts going if it weren't for those who decided to train in the older crafts such as stonemasons who would do the repairs that are necessary from time to time we need to keep and be proud of our history the ordinary people as well history is about the ordinary people too if not more so xx

I ‘went to’ Will and Kate’s wedding back in 2011! My dad was a member of the Royal Society of materials and sciences (or something like that) and their headquarters were lucky enough to be on the mall, with a balcony overlooking the parade route. I was sixteen, had my first glass of champagne, and watched the royal procession! The pomp and circumstance of it all was amazing, I loved seeing the horses and carriages, all the soldiers and the bands. It was a fantastic day, my dad invited his mum too, who is a working class northern woman who LOVES a party. She still says it was one of the best days of her life, and she glows with pride whenever she has a chance to talk about it! My dad is the first person in our family to go to uni, and to be able to invite his mum down to London to attend a big fancy party and to see the queen in her carriage and royal family was such a special thing for him to get the opportunity to do.
I know things like this can seem silly to people from other countries, but it’s really special, especially for our older generations!

Another nice one ladies. I had to smile at Natasha's comment about the Royal Mews and the horses, it took me right back to when I was a very small child ( a long, LONG, time ago) and was convinced that the Mews was where the Palace cats lived! - In my defence, I was only around 5 at the time 😂

Me too, absolutely stunning, however, part of the goal of its design is to give a sense of awe and wonder. Basically to help with the brainwashing. The original meaning of 'mews' in the middle ages was a place where trained hawks were kept - though the meaning has changed to stables and beyond to houses converted from earlier stable or other older buildings.

'Mew' is also a verb. To lock up, or cage; also referring to hawks kept for hunting. Hawks were mewed up in a mews.

The gold state coach is enormous and beautiful. There are even a set of clothes belonging to the grooms who ride the horses that you can put on. This is somewhere that is really worth a visit. Most people do not even know these Mews are there behind Buckingham palace.
Sinead is really good with her tours. She takes me all the places I know and starts me reminiscing about the times I’ve been to those places. I saw this video when she first did this tour.
Sinead’s colleague Margaret, an American, has done great tours of Hampton Court and the Tower of London.
The first one I saw was the Jack the Ripper tour which was fantastic

The Gold State Coach weighs four tons. The carriages that transport new Ambassadors to present their Credentials to the Monarch, are drawn by two horses. New Commonwealth High Commissioners' carriages, are drawn by four horses. A lovely video, thank you.

I was 6 when I saw the gold state coach and you could get much closer to it the inside is just as beautiful as the outside every detail I was lost even as a kid I was there even though the school tour left me lol 😂 I’ll never forget but I need to go back brought back wonderful memories ❤ thanks ladies xx

Great video guys. If you look at a video of The Royal Ascot procession it shows all these carriages out on show bringing The Queen for a days racing on her very own Ascot race course. It was a yearly tradition where The Queen would have guests to come to Windsor Castle for a lunch followed by a days racing, they travel from The Castle to The race course in full procession. There’s also a documentary of a90 year old Queen Elizabeth being interviewed about her coronation. As well as The Queen saying how uncomfortable the ride was, she also speaks about wearing a Crown and the weight of it. The Queen had to stop wearing the crown in more recent years coz her head and neck couldn’t cope with that hefty weight anymore.
This was fascinating. What they don't tell you is that the Monarch thinks the entire world smells of paint and polish, because, wherever they go, 100 yards ahead of them are people painting and polishing and making everything perfect.
Haha, particularly the bathrooms. I used to work in a place that had lots of "official" visitors and while every one of them was memorable in some way we especially loved getting royal visits because that meant the loos would get painted. Better still, it meant I didn't have to fill in works orders, apply for budgets, or any of the bureaucratic stuff - I just told the maintenance crew that "Princess Anne's coming" and everything would get a paint job.
😂 oh my goodness yes, my hubby is a veteran now but how I remember the jokes of how the paint was barely dry when a Royal visit was imminent! 😁

The word mews comes from the Royal Mews in London, England, a set of royal stables built 500 years ago on a former royal hawk mews.
Hawk Mews was a place where the King kept his hunting birds,they were said to make a sound called "Mewing".So there you go!

As l am sure you know the RCMP sent The King a very handsome six year old called Noble. I wonder if he will be ridden by The King at Trooping the Colour the way the late Queen rode Burmese.
When I was with Veterans Aid we had a private tour, the head guy showed us around the saddlery rooms and we where allowed inside the barriers to stand next to the coaches.
Just as a rider to my previous comment, I watched the Queen’s Coronation when I was a little girl. Not many people had televisions in those days. We went to my aunts and there were about 10 people watching a 9” black and white tv with a magnifying screen making it into a 12”. Hard to believe, but we still thought it was magical!
Ironically I am watching this on a smaller screen (phone) which gives a perfect image. That is magic.
I will be glued to the TV on Coronation Day and drinking lots of Yorkshire or Welsh tea and eating scones! May is usually a lovely month in UK so here’s hoping for good weather on the day! In the 1980s the Queen allowed the Civil Service Riding Club to stable their horses in the Royal Mews, and to use the indoor school for lessons (we rode out to Hyde Park, for exercise too - smart riding clothes were required for anyone seen riding out of the Mews!). The working stables are much less grand, but more comfortable for the horses. The Queen used to use the indoor school (not shown in the video) to practice riding side-saddle before the Trooping of the Colour.
I live in Canada but wouldn’t miss the Coronation. My daughter is joining us to celebrate the day, accompanied my the odd glass of bubbly! Thanks ladies. Great video and I’m even more excited after seeing that.

Hi debbie and natasha i live in dublin ireland but lived in london for 10 years if you love tropping the colour them videos dont do it justice omg being there and seeing it live is would give you goosebumps even changing of the gaurd's dont know how king charles might change it but when the late queen was alive it was break taking to be there i was amazed how them gaurd's keep in time foot wise so if you ever get a hoilday to england try around the trooping of the colour you love it regards from dublin what lovelie ladies you both are 💕

I don't know if you already know the story behind the Order of the Garter? The legend is that one of our Mediaeval Kings (?Edward III? Not quite sure) was hosting a banquet. During one of the ladies lost her garter and her stocking fell down. Everyone laughed except the king, who snatched up the garter and shouted the words that are now the motto of the Order. "Honi soit qui mal y pense". Shame on the one who thinks ill of this. To relieve the lady's blushes, he then tied the garter round his own leg (as if to say "Take the p**s out of me if you dare!") and insisted on having the next dance with the lady who owned the garter.
It was indeed Edward III - in 1346 off the top of my head :-)
The Bentleys are fairly recent and we’re crested especially for the queen, bullet proof glass and all the extras you’d expect were included. No other models like them in the world, I assume the RR are the same.
Queen Elizabeth II was a racing fan from a young age, she had racing stables and raced her horses all over the world.
Hi girls. Dan from Yorkshire again. Mews were originally where hunting birds were once kept, later extended to include other animals, principally horses, so eventually becoming stables when hunting with hawks died out.
Last week they did a full practice of the whole coronation during the early hours. Finished around 6am.

I'm planning on watching the coronation at home alone with Alfie, my little chihuahua for company. I'm really looking forward to all the pomp and circumstance. I can't wait to see all the outfits and hopefully tiaras as well 😊
If you look at the paintwork on all coaches except the Gold State Coach, all the details, coats of arms, emblems, etc are painted by hand by coach painters, the brushes often being just a few hairs or even just one.
My great-grandfather was a master of the guild of coach painters in Aberdeen, and every year he would go to Mar Lodge near Balmoral to spruce up the carriages kept there for the then Princess Royal, the daughter of Edward VII, before the Royal Family came for their holidays in Scotland.
For the first time since 1831, when the 70-year-old coach was first used for that purpose, the Gold State Coach is not going to be used to carry the King and Queen to the Coronation service.
It is, however, going to transport them back to Buckingham Palace on the return journey.

There are quite a lot of mews houses in the middle of London - usually the expensive parts - where the wealthy kept their horses. They are fairly tall and narrow with some as much as 5 stories high. Where the horses were is now, of course, where the cars are parked. When you come over you could treat yourselves to a B&B in a mews. I used to visit the racing driver Stirling Moss in his mews house at Shepherd Street in Mayfair. He had turned it into a high tech house because he loved his gadgets. He even had a heated loo seat when no-one had heard of such a thing! 😀

We took my daughter and her school friends up to London on a sight-seeing day-trip during the school holidays. We saw the State Rooms inside Buckingham Palace which were quite something. We loved going to the Royal Mews too and seeing the carriages and cars. We didn't see the beautiful greys that day - may be without a guide we missed it. Although we had seen the golden coach on tv quite a lot of times, to see it in 'real life' was a completely different experience. It was larger than we imagined and, even though we spent quite some time walking around it, we kept seeing different details. It is simply jaw dropping. On this tour with you today we learnt much more about the carriages than we learned before - so thank you. Earlier we'd watched the Changing of the Guard - like a proper tourists, before walking down the Mall, through to Admiralty Arch, to gawp at Trafalgar Square. Our little band had a wonderful day.

Actually the Golden State Coach is only going to take the King and Queen from Westminster Abbey back to Buckingham Palace after the Coronation Ceremony- there will be a different Coach used to take them to the Abbey for the Ceremony 👍🏻🇦🇺

FYI the Royal couple will be using two different coaches on the day of the Coronation. They are arriving by National Express and will return to the palace courtesy of Flixbus.

As a kid of about 10 my school did a trip to London (my 1st visit) & besides going to 4 theatres - one was Agatha Christies The Mousetrap - we were taken to the Royal Mews to see all the horses, carriages & so on, brilliant for all us kids. The final night was a visit to The Tower of London to see the "Ceremony of the Keys". This happens every day at 10pm on the dot, never, ever late. I should think its on youtube somewhere if you want to watch it. All this almost 70yrs ago, time flies, memories stay with you!!
The Mousetrap started in 1952 & is running to this day albeit at a different theatre.

I visited the Royal Mews in March and it was well worth a visit, masses of pomp and ceremony, the staff are impeccably professional and the coaches are beautiful. 🇬🇧❤️
Funny moment, many years ago, think it was Balmoral. The queen decided, which she often did, popped to the local shop,
A shopper/tourist, was in the shop, queen walked in, shopper stopped, stared for a moment , amd said “oh wow, you look just like the Queen”
Which the Queen replied “I am the Queen” 😂

The bathrooms in the Mews are fancier than in my house! The wheels alone on that state coach are AT LEAST six feet, the rear ones even higher.
Rochester Cathedral is displaying a table made from 5000 year old bog oak which is 13 meters (43ft) long. We are having a ‘street party’ around the table.
I was very lucky to have seen all these coaches and cars whilst on duty at Buckingham palace when I was a young soldier back in the early 1970s
Parts of Buckingham Palace are open to the public including The Royal Mews and yes I have seen it up close and personal

I am so glad you found the Free Tours by Foot CZcams channel. It’s one of my favourites (alongside yourselves, of course!). Their videos are so informative and interesting.
I camped out overnight on the Mall with friends for the wedding of Charles and Diana, which was very atmospheric. I do have a few photos I took then somewhere. I will have to see if I have any of the coach.

My coronation plan is to watch at home from Germany and drink my Gin and Tonic, out of my new Windsor Palace glass while eating my lemon biscuits, all of which I specifically ordered from the Royal Collection for this occasion :)

It's great that two coaches will be used for the coronation procession; the Diamond Jubilee State Coach (the newest addition with the hydraulics and was made in Australia) will take Their Majesties to Westminster Abbey, and the Gold State Coach will transport them back to Buckingham Palace following the coronation.

The Royal Mews, and The Queen's Gallery alongside, are well worth a visit. A combined ticket, including these with entry to the State Apartments of the Palace itself, is available throughout the summer but the Mews and Gallery are also open year-round.
I went to see the Royal Mews when I was young. I don’t know about now, but they used to keep the polo ponies there too. The golden state coach is absolutely stunning up close.

Look how spotless the stables are.
The Gold State Coach which is older than the United States of America 🤔 will be used on the return journey from Westminster Cathedral to Buckingham Palace with the would be newly crowned King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The Diamond Jubilee coach of the late Queen Elizabeth II will be used to transport the King and Queen to their coronation's. It's not pomp, This is part of our British heritage and tradition and it's one of the many reasons why I love my country so much.

Westminster Cathedral is a different, much more recent building belonging to a different christian denomination (Roman Catholic).
