While over in Portstewart, Northern Ireland on holiday and wanted to go spear fishing and snorkeling, but had no dive weight belt! After a very short shopping trip, I decided to make my own lead weights! The challenge was, where do I find lead in a holiday destination? Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoy the content, please subscribe, like and I would love it if you left me a comment or two. ‪@HandyHQs‬
The weight belt is the same as would be used by scuba divers or free divers and can be bought from many vendors including #poseidon, #scubapro and #aquatech, # AquaHolics
How to make lead scuba or free dive, dive weights as well as how to find scrap lead that can also be used for fishing sinkers.

Another source for lead is tyre shops, which have buckets of used wheel weights. Lead is being replaced with zinc and steel, but lead can still be found with some effort.

Thanks Andrew, that is exactly where I went first, but in Ireland there was no lead anymore

I'm doing virtually exactly the same; have plenty of scrap lead, need a weight belt; but I don't want to spend £46 buying a weight mold! Instead Ive been experimenting making my own casting mold, not quite right yet but getting closer to success. Like yourself, I'll probably end up with several extra weights I won't need so may try selling them.

Hi Tony, fun stuff and got to be done :-). Many years ago I made a few weights in a wooden mould, it was ok for a few castings, but of course got fried in the process. I’m sure you can find a mild on eBay at a better price ….

@@HandyHQs I'll manage; I'm using cement boards for the mold, they don't burn! However trying to molds in the UK is very difficult; cheapest were on Ebay at £46; wouldn't be worth buying it for 6 leads... Cheers
