You even have to pay for Grammy’s if you aren’t the main artist or person being awarded. For example if you win Best Album, only the artist gets the trophy. Everyone else who worked on it has to pay to receive their trophy

Ashanti writes music for other artist. Her catalog is lit. I don't ever remember hearing about Beyoncé or Whitney writing their own music and/or writing for others, respectfully. Ashanti is underrated because she don't be playing in the streets like the others, but she is definitely worthy. And on the flip side, she clearly still making money.. enough to buy a star... and still out shining other so called "Stars"
Writing music dnt have nothing to do with being a star. Ashanti not writing no hits today or in the past 15 years and that’s no shade to her. Look at Beyoncé’s entire catalog, her name is on every song whether she co-wrote it or not we would never know, her Dad wasn’t playing when it came to those writing credits.

We have to be fair. Ashanti dominated the early '00s. The music brings many of us so much nostalgia. It was a very feel good era. A star on the Walk of Fame has to be purchased by the nominee though. It's not the same kind of 'earned' honor say an Academy Award or Grammy.

Sound scan and the industry pushes who they want to push, just because you sing hooks and you albums doesn’t mean you are a great singer. She peaked too soon, doesn’t matter they pushed her because they had the money to do it. Ashanti said in an interview in honey magazine in 2002 that Irv said he would take the wrap for the bad flat vocals, she said it herself, he said ride the wave, we hot, we got, those were his words. I was at an event with Ashanti and she’s a sweet girl but 5 months and for hooks and a familiar beat or. Through her on. I love always on time, that was my song.
I’m not hating on her in the least, but this industry pushes who they want to push. And people like her so she got it regardless I’m not a huge fan. One of her fans started a petition to stop the Aretha Franklin award. It was too soon, even Aretha was like they given my award to who?? I get that she writes hits but me personally I’m not interested in hits and accolades. It is what it is. You throw any artist over a nice beat and people will listen and have them be easy on the eyes and people will fall for it.

Paying for it just seems a bit trite and merited. When one is asked if they want to receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star award (you actually have to gather up a certain amount of signatures in the thousands for the drafted petition) and your granted one for a certain fee then the award isn’t genuinely granted due to your excellence in your craft. Many decades ago when it was gifted to the movie stars of yesteryear was a different story but now it’s just an award of monetary transaction.
