Good video, but you had one pretty big oversight- it's a reach to say grunge and metalcore had 'the same parents', as you put it, just because they were both born out of a combination of heavy metal and punk. Truth be told, 'heavy metal' is a very generic labeo describing many different subgenres that sound nothing alike, and grunge and metalcore were influenced by very different kinds of metal.
Grunge was born out of classic metal- the likes of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. 70s/ early 80s music with a focus on riffs, bug melodies, ridiculous high notes- and in the appearance perspective, long hair and not a very 'edgy' image; meanwhile, metalcore was influenced by more modern metal bands- as you briefly mentioned, nu metal was a big influence on them, but I would also credit 90s heavy metal bands- these kinds of metal focused on rhythm rather than melody, had very simple riffs, the vocals were mostly screamed as opposed to clean singing in earlier metal- and their appearance was with short hair, tattooes and other 'radical' things like multiple piercings.
If you let someone who doesn't know much about metal listen to Black Sabbath and Korn, they would never put them in the same genre. So claiming they are the same just for the sake of convenience is a huge oversight. I say this as a fan of both grunge and metalcore by the way.
Also, on another note- you said Layne died in 1992 when it was actually 2002😅

Thanks for taking the time to write this! I don’t think it’s reaching at all though. You should check out my first video on this topic, it’ll clear up a lot of questions you might have. That or digging into the origins of hardcore and metallic-hardcore yourself. The origin story really isn’t so different. Punk lit the torch, handed it to hardcore and then grunge took it and carried it for a few years.
However, yes I did mention the wrong year in regards to Layne. Noticed it after I posted the video and figured someone would let me know 😅
