Gods And Monsters Origins - The Best Dark, Adult & Morally Distorted Version of Justice League!

- The Justice League of America is no doubt the most popular superhero team of all time; don’t let that 2017 movie try to convince you otherwise. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman& The Flash have been re-imagined several times across DC’s fabled “Multiverse”, giving birth to some rather colorful alternate versions of the League. On Earth 3, they are the Crime Syndicate of America; a complete reversal of their original roles as protectors of Earth. On Earth 10, they form Hitler’s New Reichsmen; that’s right, a Nazi Justice League! And on Earth 14, they’re ruthless, Mad Max-inspired killers who form the Justice League of Assassins. The point is that there are a lot of cool &kinda creepy versions of the JLA out there in the Multiverse; but none of them is as disturbingly realistic as the one we find in the Justice League: Gods & Monsters Universe. This Elseworlds-inspired pocket of DC’s Animated Universe, designed by the legendary Bruce Timm, is perhaps one of the most-subversive re-inventions of the Justice League. For starters, it only features The Trinity: Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman. But that isn’t the only thing that makes them different. Without further ado, this is the Justice League from Gods & Monsters Universe - Explored.

When Batman asked Superman why did he save him and Superman told him “because you were hungry” dawg tht was the realest shxt ever my favorite Superman for sure!
Exactly as a poor immigrant he knee what hunger was like. I felt that too
I love this movie. So interesting how they changed the characters names, origins, back stories and yet still feel like the characters we know
Even though they supposedly aren't
It's sad the sequal got cancelled

It's interesting how this version of Man Bat is better thought out than the Morbius movie
The fact we don't have more of this universe is practically a crime. Just try to reimagine characters like Flash or Aquaman in this universe. For example, have Aquaman be the attempt of creating an amphibious super soldier and look like Abe Sapiens from Hellboy.
My mans speedran a 26 minute video in 2 minutes 😳😳
...and should be punished ^^
Intead you got the dark batmanverse
If I had to guess our flash never existed instead there flash is a time traveler future a insane genius named Eobard.
Not sure about aquaman.
@@bryanmcclure2220 Honestly, I’d have The Flash be the son of Zeus and the Flash is his power over lightning and thunder rather than running fast.
Aquaman? Why not make him a Batman-like character who was saved by the ocean and uses technology and his extensive experience with the ocean to fight poachers and polluters?
I love how He one of the few Supermen that can kill without turning into a monster.
I think a previous commenter, Dracone made a good point to lean on for this. Clark has grown up with, as they wrote "with blinders" in an "easy life". In his case nature and nurture were on the same basis of thinking: the opportunity of multiple chances and responsibility with immense power. When that ideal is broken down by some catalyst, for example a loss (of Lois Lane, or a JLA member) he uses his power with a new kind of responsibility based on regret he didn't do it sooner.
By Hernan Guerra nature vs nurture was the complete opposite of each other. His power is based not on responsibility, but necessity. He will be the "necessary evil", if needed, because he can do it. And he saw what human struggle can do to a person.
And while Clark would kill as in the previously stated cases from anger (at himself, the perpetrator and the world that lets it happen) Hernan counts it as the last but still a possible deescalation of a situation.
Using the Batman vs Owlman situation: Batman bent against Owlman, because Clark would have reasoned with him, giving a chance to the villain to incapacitate him and gloat over his body how he failed. But Bruce would gladly send Hernan after Owlman. He would've just shown up, give him one chance to surrender, than he would kill him from safe distance by throwing a rock at him with mach 10.
The only ones that come to mind are Injustice Superman and Justice Lord Superman.
The former of which clearly isn't an accurate representation of Superman (as he clearly has a different personality and history, as main comic Superman would not react as he did).
And the other... well it's basically the above concept but executed better. And even then they made it VERY clear that the "real" Superman, wouldn't go that far. Like... there was an entire arc about it.
@@goji253 great examples, but there is one version that is closer to my explanation, and I don't think that Superman shied away from killing unwanted people. The one I think of is the Brave new world Superman in TAS. Lois dies, the idea breaks down and gets reshaped into something else. It's something between the justice lords Superman and the Injustice Superman.
@@madmanarrivednow But wasn't that once again a very different reality and Superman?
I mean he worked with Luthor who, at that point, seems to have not been his enemy as much as in the main TAS Earth. And the fact this Superman practically wore an SS-based logo kinda also makes you wonder how he was raised differently in that universe cause... well... surely he realised what that symbol looked like and chose it anyway.
@@goji253 great observation. We can't really know if his upbringing was different or not. What we know is the catalyst was the same accident that has happened in the main timeline, Lois remembered it. But in that reality Superman couldn't save Lois. He startred to work with Lex after the fact. He swooped in and convinced him about that regime being the good way. He used Clark's possible idealistic nature
urture. That's how I saw it, but your view has merits as well. Maybe there was something else, as you wrote. Maybe it was just losing Lois. The former was not stated in the episode, but it's still possible. That is the great in sci-fi multiverse. The possibilities are only as finite as the imagination of the writers.
the interactions between theese versions of heroes are so grounded, and mature. Like when batman asked sups : "why did you saved me?", hs simple answer was: "because you were hungry". No great speach of whats right or wrong , no preaching. A simple answer that contains lots of information that you a viewer yourself can understand and read between lines. Lots of interpretations of this comic book characters lack that.
Gods and Monsters is one of my favorite versions of the Justice League. I've actually wondered, quite a few times, what would happen if the trinity from Gods and Monsters would be like if they were to meet the mainline (canonical) trinity. I think it could be interesting to see these 2 very different versions of Superman meet and interact with one another because the two would both see affirmations of their ideals and goals while also being critical of each other, mainline Superman seeing an affirmation of his belief that anyone can be good regardless of their origins while being judgemental of the Gods and Monsters version for his brutality and willingness to actively take lives prior to their meeting. In contrast, the Gods and Monsters version of Superman would see a manifestation of his own goal in life while blasting the mainline Superman for basically growing up with blinders because of his idyllic upbringing and "easy" life as an adult.
How do you thing an interaction between gods and monsters (superman) and ultraman (crime syndicate) would be?
@@stratagemSG1 oh, G&M Supes would despise that version of himself. He’d probably view him as a madman and a tyrant that needs to be taken out. Preferably sooner rather than later.
Ultra man would fall in love with his G&M counterpart!
Superman's is easily the most interesting interaction.
If both trinitys meet for one it be as follows. Hernan and clark would mainly talk about krypton and how in a weird way they be half brother if they existed in each others universe; probably differ on how they view justice but find common ground in their humble upbringing which inform their moral compass hernan being his sister and for clark it be the kents. Bekka and diana would be the most tamed interaction both are immortal warriors with complicated family background and both morally and ideologically seem to be on the same wavelenght so in essence a pretty amicable and freindly interaction. Now bruce and kirk would be fun to see since on the main earth kirk is the manbat while on the G&M hes vampire batman; when kirk asks him what this earths him is like bruce probably will say you turn into a giant monster man bat which to kirk will shock but when he says he killed joe chill thatll definitely make bruce how he might have ended on that earth but all in all both would share a kindred tragedy in both their lives having found a light to guide their paths in life. Hell id like to see G&M Luthor chastise main earth lex on his thrist for power by say the following: so this is what this earth most brilliant mind has become a shrewed corporate politician profiteering from capitalist nietzche ideologies over his world superman with the sole purpose of proving his superioty and to think id pondered if his intellect was uyilized in more loftier endeavors than this petty crusade of an cleary over inflated ego.
The Superman of this universe may be the son of Zod but he’s no villain I kinda like how he was raised by Mexican immigrants crossing the border (shit I’d like a series on how he grew up )
Very interesting indeed
It sucks DC didn't follow up with this version of the justice league it would have even been nice to see a crossover with the main justice league
I'd love to see that as well
They got close there is concept art online they made for a few other heros
Yeah especially the two Supermen to see how their personalities mesh
This is the best alternate version of both the Justice League and the Trinity.
I echo what has been said here especially the fact we've yet to get a very much deserved sequel which could have introduced other members.
Why they didn't press ahead with this new take is beyond me as it was popular as shown by thus video and the comments section.
It's also essentially a blank slate in which to create stories from as unlike the main continuity, our heroes here aren't weight down with the rules they were created with which allows for more mature stories which should only be seen as a good thing.
Hopefully DC will see sense and give us a sequel while this version is still fresh in our memories.
Idk if Bruce time could still do another movie with this version of the justice league for its been six years since this movie came out but eh he could surprise us
@@wolfgang6442 He could yes as a sequel would be great.
Hopefully we'll get on before it becomes 10 years.
It breaks my heart that this series doesn't get a sequel.
It's a tragedy we didn't get more installments of this alternate version.
This is clearly the better "dark" league next to the crime syndicate since they're not really evil infact it's more like their universe itself was flawed.
As much as I get why they only went with the big 3, I really hope we eventually get to see G&M versions of the other justice leaguers someday.
Imagine how Aquaman or Flash would look in such a dark world. Same goes for the Green Lantern Corps, the Blue Beetle, Plastic Man, Doomsday, Joker, and other DC heroes and villains. This universe is teeming with potential and I sincerely hope the creators of G&M realize and take advantage of that at some point.
I think Joker is long dead in this universe.
the executives at WB couldn't stomach having morally grey heroes who could kill when needed.
Agreed
SO TRUE
Well.... except they clearly love that, seeing as pretty much every DCEU character is exactly that *even* when they shouldn't be.
@@goji253 which one? you mean snyderverse characters who was clearly hated by executives?
@@HiroIndo16 Seeing as they allowed Snyder to even make e.g Batman and Superman killers... I am pretty sure the executives were into the idea up until they realised audiences were hating that.
If you want to make a "dark" Justice League, this is a better way than we've seen in the past. Instead of "what if Clark Lent, Bruce Wayne, and Diana Prince were excessively violent?" it's 3 completely different people becoming a Justice League. Also nice touch that son of Zod isn't predestined to villainy just because of his blood line, his outlook on life owing more to his childhood of poverty and discrimination. He's overzealous and scary, but not all out evil.
Not only was this an awesome one-off story, I can't help but feel Bruce Timms' work on this helped it's success. I mean, the guy essentially has "Legendary" status as an animator goes and he's just so talented.
The prequel Comics series of this genre was so great such a different interpretation of the Justice League a dark interpretation at that and they were about to create so much more a show ever since Justice League unlimited would have been cool
Main superman: I was raised by farmers and fight for justice.
Red son superman: I was raised in The Soviet Union and fight for communism.
This superman: I was raised by immigrants and fight for MY justice.
Gotta say there's quite a diversity quota here.
The Red Son grew up on a Collective Farm as well. At the very least, all three share that background.
Got to love that this version of superman is actually a strong Catholic. Which is a result of his upbringing, and is probably one of the reasons he hasn't gone full world conquerer up until now. We see his religious belief when he blesses himself upon finding the stones corpses. The man is a man of faith as well as power. Love that.
_Pffft..._ given some of the vindictive shit his 'god' pulled over relatively minor infractions, the only real use for his 'faith' would be as a textbook example of how *NOT* to act..!
( _Put it this way - a Superman who acted like old testament 'god' would make the Injustice version seem like a girl scout!_ )
If you don't know the catholic church was all about conquering the world, I'd highly suggest taking some history classes. LOL
@@WarBeasty _This._
@@WarBeasty ....And then everybody clapped!
As much of a stunningly brave and bold take as can be possibly be expected from a CZcams comments section, really. Just the absolute epitome of braindead drones regurgitating the Correct Think-approved line. 'Church....bad.....modern....good.....', like as if there's is zero fucking nuance to the world past an institution as unfathomably vast and ancient as the Catholic Church being blanketedly TEH EVUUEELLLL. No higher thinking involved in the slightest.
@@papapalps2415 I don't think any higher thinking was involved in your reply. I merely stated a fact and did so in a lighthearted manner.. The Catholic church was very much a conquering force in its day. That is well documented. You might see it as a force of good, saving souls of heathens, and you are welcome to that point of view.
Whether or not the spread of catholicism was to the benefit of mankind overall or to its detriment is completely up for grabs and very much tinted by personal opinion.. I tend to look for the bright side in any situation.. It was directly due to the spread of catholicism that many of my favorite cheeses were invented, so in my view it's not all bad.
I think your feverish frothing fervor to make me look like an imbecile really made you look like a stupid blowhard.
A person going by Dr. Psycho should immediately raise red flags 😂
This really shows the difference between DC and the MCU. Many of the heroes in the MCU kill when needed, and no one freaks out about it.
This version of Kurt lagstrum is the morbius of this universe
Ah now it makes sense😅
It's Morbin' Time
I feel Zack Snyder would have a fun time directing the live action version of this.
keep Zack Snider off the Justice League
@@madero-jb5ri you spell his name right, and mind your sacrilegious mouth, Snyder is better than you in all ways known to mankind
@@JohnnyDeur I don't know, man. I didn't see much of a difference between the Snyder and Wheaton version. There were both shot.
@@madero-jb5ri are you kidding? Whatever idiot thought it was a good idea to put out that first cut had no clue what people wanted to see. That's why this version had to be 4 hours because that is what was needed to tell the story. Some people like Joss Wheaton don't get that and never will.
@@JohnnyDeur Snyder is not a bad director, but I was hoping he would do something similar to what he did with the man of steel. The villains were very cartoonish in Justice League, and the drama was terrible. Man of steel had great actors doing the villains. Doomsday should have been used in the 3rd movie.
I love that animated feature, it has so much potential. It can recreate DC Elseworld concept, just the idea of using different characters. Imagine if the Red Lanterns were the Galactica police force instead of the green Lanterns, Hank Hall is the Lantern for sector 2814. Or Oceanmaster is the king of Atlantis and has the mantle of Aquaman. Richard Occult is Dr Fate, so many possibilities
I really liked this story because ir wasn't edgy for the sake of being edgy, didn't killed a shit ton of people just because being cruel is dark . Had the right amount of violence and grim, and also refreshing origins of each character.
I love that in this movie Will Magnus masterplan of world domination is basically a sci-fi version of the Infite Tsukiyomi from Naruto.
They should go ahead and make another one of these movies. I want to see how they would handle Highfather.
This should have had its own series.
We got Injustice, Earth 2 and 3, and the constant meme that is Metal, and Death Metal, but no Gods and Monsters continuation.
I wish they continued to explore this universe, the Trinity had an unique interpretation.
Thank you! For years I put off watching this one as Superman's father was Zodd. Now I will give it a chance and watch it.
Great video. I absolutely loved the movie and it's alternate take on the team. I think this version is cooler than 'The Crime Syndicate' of I can't remember what earth. I hope in future this storyline continues and the movie gets sequels.
*earth 3
@@nkemnoraulmanfredini7286 Yeah, thanks.
I remember when they were releasing short clips for every character. Basically introducing them in this drastically different version of the Justice League. I was so so hyped to see how it would turn out and goodness my im so glad I wasn’t disappointed
One of the best DC animated movies
I've always wanted to see the Gods and Monsters Trinity featured in a game like Injustice 2, or possibly an Injustice 3 game. Just imagining their moves and their interactions with other characters gets me hyped.
One thing DC is good at and that is animation and this is another prime example of that which would’ve been justified with another adventure of these three alternate trinity characters and I completely love their first adventure wondering if there will be more someday.
Very good video thank you so much.👍😎
An alternate version of Batman and Manbat in one character is just too perfect.
I liked this move as a whole, and seeing at the end of the movie, turn into anti heroines but In dark post world
Sad how they threw this series away as soon as it was finished with the movie and comics. It had everything in it to make a fantastic reimagining of the DC universe without just being evil Characters
Superman zod shows us how despite being an evil guy's son he still did as much good as he could have done in his own less black and white way.
The series could have gone into the new gods being a future threat or forming a new justice league with grey heroes and different ways the villains could be seen.
Overall just a waste of a good idea to not expand on it any further
Oh wouldn't count this version the Justice League as dead and gone forever.. DC has brought a lot worse ideas back from the dead. Hell, they regurgitated Arm Fall Off Boy at some point, so if they'd bring something THAT stupid back out of obscurity, I can see no reason why DC won't bring something as cool as the Gods and Monsters Justice League back for a new tale or two.
2:25 - Yeah, I'd probably involve Green Lantern Thaal Sinestro, Ocean Master (Aquaman's half-brother) Black Adam, either Zoom or Reverse Flash, possibly with a White Martian Manhunter (as opposed to a green one) | 3:00 - I suspect that world's Bruce Wayne didn't lose his parents in that reality. | 6:32 - KNEEL before Zod! | 12:20 - She'd think "that explains a lot" if she knew who his father is.
This version of JL all have baggages but it does not let them stop from being heroes. The Green Lantern version would be Dex-Starr the Red Lantern.
@@littlejohn8435 The Domestic Cat?
@@NetMoverSitan Yes. A Red Lantern instead of Green Lantern as part of JL.

My favorite sup so far since he is the best potrayed of a true human with god-like power look like , not so unreal pure good like superman. Zod-Sup got really cool developments from Chaotic Neutral from the start to Lawful Good maybe in the end ))
Honestly this universe wouldve been interesting to explored in the comics its new 52 meets flashpoint; it feels grounded in its tone and character origin with familiar concepts we as fans are familiar but grants it a new spin with the results beung nuance incarnations of iconic characters like the trinity and others. Now its begs the question what would a sequel to gods and mosnters be a new trio of characters facing a new threat or perhaps the creation of a justice league in this world the posibilites are endless.
By far my favorite alternate universe & JL version. Also, this universe's Lois is much sexier which I like a lot.
Agreed
For all those Snyderverse fans who use "T-THEY WERE BUILDING TO THAT BEACON OF HOPE!!" when defending Man of Steel or BvS, then let me say that THIS is how you do a darker version of Superman that's much more different than the normal version but still faithful to the character
That Superman looks like Vandal Savage from JLU
This movie was entertaining and I loved how they made the characters different (yet the same in some regard). That 2017 movie isn't Justice League its officially Josstice League.
You guys are on a w streak y’all keep covering underated gems keep it up fr!!!
The whole idea was; let's make each character have a development, using simple character arcs, complemented by complex back stories.
I was suprised how good this was. Also Superman CONTEMPLATED not killing again, he wasn't committed to the idea lol.
I love how your videos leave little room for improvement.
Wow, there's just something about this guys voice that ticks ALL the right boxes for me. I love it!
Wish more people did breakdowns like these🔥. Makes you that more intrigued with the characters we know and love.
I watched the movie by accident when I was younger, still don’t regret it.
I have learned alot from this but I have to ask
1who thought Nazi Justice league was a good idea?
2how bad do the villains in that world have to be for them to still be considered the heroes? or is it similar to the reverse universe where the villains are actually the heroes and vise-versa?
Excellent video and one of my favorite Justice League adaptations. 😊
Great movie, I remember watching this and it's one of the best animated movies made by DC. DC is the king of animation ad contrast to Marvel being the king at live action movies.
DC’s Gods and Monsters is so amazing I really adore this movie and it’s heroes they are something new and fresh
Honestly, from this video alone, I kinda of prefer this version of the Justice League, their origins and abilities are much more intriguing and the stories that can be told sound much more grounded and interesting
One of my favorite movies
I saw this video and totally loved it! There are some short cartoons of this universe on YT; you can see them before or after JL:GAM. They are standalone stories you can enjoy.
This was supposed to be an ongoing story line... disappointing it was cancelled...

I've heard so much about this miniseries I really want to check it out now.
This was amazing
i liked that movie , those version of the 3 heroes is appreciable because they are less smooth and more rugged
@17:00 there not the league of assassins, the characters are Livewire(who uses the cannon), Cheetah(normally a women is now a man), and Solomon Grundy(he's just not a zombie), the team is a parallel to the same team from the The Batman Animated Series show
Good and Monsters was a mayor inspiration for me, to create my own Elseworld story, The Valyrian Dragon and the spin-off story The Dragon of Krypton, you can summarise the story if you mix Superman, with A Song of ice and Fire, Star Wars and Dune, is a very long and complicated story, with a side story, The Azure Flame, but it seems that I become victim of my own success, because I want to expand my original universe to the Milky Way, but I not known how, and it seems that my readers not appeal to anything that is not military science fiction with super powered aliens.
Where can I find your story
This was awesome! I really loved the movie and the characters i really wish they made a sequal but it sadly got shelved
I love this videos alot! Very informative! What is the music at 3:06?
The best justice league I ever watch. Don't judge the book by its cover. Be a justice league.
I love this story and the animation style is the good old mixed with modern techniques, the result is a great story with good action.
However personally the justice league version from Flashpoint is the most out there version in animation and concept.
There always has to be a "FAIR PLAY" protocal to keep metahumans in check. "if there is a 1% chance" of them turning it has to be taken as a certainty "BATMAN vs SUPERMAN"
Love the video and you great job
But the league actually battle a variation of the injustice league with live wire, blockbuster and a male cheetah
Animation in this is outstanding
I always wanted Batman to be a legit Vampire.
*My favorite is Legion of Superheroes.*
*31st century teenage aliens cosplaying 21st century superheroes.*
Really cool story. 3 different heroes, but still good in their own ways.

They're gonna make a comic of this one day and change to way too much lol
That version of Batman is a total ripoff of Marvel's Michael Morbius, which is why I love him.
Batman? As a vampire? Bat? I don't think it really is tbh, it's just very ironic that batman is a vampire
This film and universe is worthy of at least one sequel.
I'm stuck on appa-cool-lips... later changed to
appah-cuh-lips!
Batman is basically Morbius 2.0
16:52 that's bronze tiger, blockbuster and livewire.
