    Good peice. I do like that some of them try to make the issue more about human lives and not just the vague concept of "the environment". As a medical professional, I find this definitely the way to go. Over 200 medical journals have declared that the climate crisis is the single greatest threat to global public health, and THAT is how it should always be frames. That it goes hand in hand with air pollution which kills between 6 and 9 million human beings every year, makes the whole thing a no Brainer.

  • @lotuseater7247
    @lotuseater7247 Před 4 měsíci +1

    What they said here is really true, 'environment' is some abstract protagonist, which doesn't really feel realtional or possible to alter under this narrative. However, another issue I find is that media like Sky encourage the idea that technology can solve the issue outright, all while pandering to a nice warm fuzzy Christmassy backdrop. It's that or catastophe. What isn't mentioned enough is the actual behaviour and lifestyle (for want of a better term) of individuals and Corporations alike. We can't go on as normal.

    Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees is only theoretically possible because we’re not there yet. In practical terms, it is almost certainly impossible. IPCC models are under-estimating global warming as they do not include climate feedback loops such as the reduction in cooling aerosols in the atmosphere and the reduced reflection of solar radiation driven by reduced sea ice. Action is urgent and every 0.1 of a degree counts.

Whilst UK is making some progress, and want to achieve Net Zero in 2050 (likely far too late to forestall going past 1.5 degrees, and not showing strong world leadership), China is on for by 2060 and India by 2070. These countries are far more consequential, and UK set the pace for their disastrous goals. Also, emissions are going to increase due to locked in effects of climate change, so we really need to look measures of what we are causing now ourselves each year, globally and in each country, and juxtapose those with overall figures.
