Snare Drum/malletSTATION Duet - "Three Short Songs"

- Three Short Songs is written for the percussion duo, Apex Percussion, and is scored for concert snare drum and malletSTATION-a MIDI keyboard played with yarn mallets or similar implements. The work is divided into three movements (or songs) each of which can serve as a standalone piece. Performers shift between melodic and accompanimental roles highlighting a breadth of instrumental timbres, playing styles, and songlike textures central to the work as a whole. Three Short Songs includes a diverse musical vocabulary that draws from rudimental and classical percussion repertoires, as well as popular and electronic genres. This is not only represented rhythmically and harmonically, but also by specific stickings and permutations.

Chris Parker, Pearl Concert Snare

Huge thank you to Konstantine and New York University for making this performance possible! - Hudba
Ahhh seriously, it blows my mind watching you play that malletSTATION!!
The 2nd piece was amazing, I love the switch from the brushes to the sticks... ack, what an awesome video. Glad I went back and watched this
Your sound quality and the tones you can get out of that drum gives me life 😍
Thanks you, Dante! Helps to record in a professional studio haha! And our sound engineer is pretty good too 😉
4:13 section gave me life
Lol thanks Caleb! That section is a straight bop
Look at those concert snare chops!!!😍
You guys are musical wizards. That malletSTATION slaps..
I’m so happy to see how much this channel has grown
Us too haha, thank you for all your help 🙏
I'm not sure what I was expecting but that was outstanding! Great composition and beautifully performed by two excellent musicians. That really has put a smile on my face 😁 love and respect from the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Hey thanks so much!! Reading your comment made us smile too!
Nice! Very innovative
That sounded awesome! 👌🏻
Simply awesome!
Thank you! We had a ton of fun with it!
That was absolutely incredible! Wonderful composition! Beautiful performance!😊 The second piece had a very jazzy funky vibe to it that gets into your soul!!
Thank you so much Allison!
I know im a little bit late to commenting so yall might not see this, but i am a teenage mallets player at my school who would love to see someone else play some form of eurobeat, such as Night of FIre, Running in the 90s. and so many more. I feel like that if you did do it, it might blow up and become a pep band mallets solo thing like how the quads have their JIG 2. Thanks
Nah never too late to comment! Thanks for sending this! We have kind of a lot in the queue 😅 but we’ll add it to the list!
Listen bro soooooo amazing...
The best part about this is that i could imagine myself in some sort of fantasy world while listening. Like i got absorbed into a Final Fantasy, or Mario game. Well done!
This is the best compliment 🙏🏼 thank you Ezra!
Great composition and excellent performance!!
Thanks so much! Was a blast!!
4:13 Beast mode active!

You have to do a video of that mallet station!
That second song!!!!!!!
Konstantine is a mad genius for sure! Haha
It's a BOP :)
@@konstantinevlasis1386 you ain’t kidding!

Really cool Malletstation sound. What VST are you using here?
Can you play on a drum kit?
That would be sick!
Love the vids. Keep em comin!
Oh man will you love our next duet haha
The mallet station looks difficult to play and yet so rewarding...
2 mallets per hand? Is that the standard way to do that? So cool.
It’s not necessarily the standard, but it is one way to play it! Fairly common in the percussion community at least
Why dont u get a million view each clip already:/
It just do be like that sometimes 🤷🏼♀️
Do you have sheet music? This seems very interesting
Yes! Contact info in the description of the video!
@@ApexPercussion thanks, might do this for fun next year with someone, I’ll check it out
This is so beautiful and I admire your skill... I still reject seeing you in pants 👖 😂😂😂, however the dreamy then melodic nature of this video allowed me to grant forgiveness.
#morethighs 🤣
@@allisonmccord3492 I know I feel like he broke all kinds of rules in this video...lolol 👀, 🤣
Primo content coming from the A!!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼 Don’t sleep on the A!
@@ApexPercussion 👀😳 eyes wide open brotha. Keep it coming
Hey Apex percussion. I emailed you asking for the sheets, hoepfully you’ll respond😏.
Well we don’t technically own them 😅 you’d have to talk to the composer about it, we linked his contact info!
Transcribe it like a man! Haha
Now do it again and switch instruments!
So we not gonna talk about how stupid Chris was going at the beginning?
That's a wonderful and innovative composition, masterfully performed, but why all the annoying photography changes. When both musicians are playing together, why not just show the split screen as if we were watching it live??! The modern tendency to think viewers don't have more than about a 2 second attention span is insulting and distracting. The art work here is the music not the video production!
