- The Fast and The Furious is a franchise that recently has never really gotten much high quality video game adaptation, with infamous examples from F&F Crossroads and Showdown. But a long time ago, the franchise managed to get its first leg into video games, surprisingly in a very good note under the hands of Eutechnyx, with their adaptation of The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift.

Emulation - EE Cycle Skipping: Set to "Mild Underclock" if you encounter crashes in the tuning shops.
Patches - Enable the Widescreen 16:9 patch.

Skip Draw Range: Set to 0-2 to remove ghosting on light sources, but will cause the visual bug when using nitrous. Keeping it as 0-0 does the opposite.

from the GT-R nerd: this is one of the very few games where the R34 GT-R Nismo Z-Tune appeared. This game honestly had an insanely impressive car roster to pick from, with heaps of JDM tuner culture cameos. at 2:35 you show a clip of the Top Secret 'V35 GT-R' demo car, where 'Smokey' Nagata built up an Infiniti G35/Nissan Skyline V35 into a proto-R35 GT-R, ahead of the R35's release.
Despite the janks and feeling of cheapness (it's Eutechnyx so it's expected), I love this game with all of my heart ❤
1. The customization MOGGED everything sans modern NFS, but that mostly comes down to the UI design.
2. It combines BOTH TXR and TXR:Drift, even with the goofy ahh depiction of Shuto Express
3. Banger soundtrack (Hime is 🔥🔥)
4. As you mentioned, unicorn cars: Evo X and LF-A concepts ftw
5. It's fun to see one of the last remnants of F&F franchise before it turned into Riddick prequels.
I really like this game too
Also, Imo drift races worked a lot better if you dont fully upgrade your car

@@Rockport1911 It would be too ambitious for the time and way beyond their budget, Genki was already struggling by the mid 2000s and making a game with hundreds of kilometers from Tokyo's Shuto system + a bunch of recreations from the likes of Haruna, Akagi, Omote Rokko, Aso, etc would probably double ths size of the game.
Don't get me wrong, I would've loved it as well, but the closest they could do to that happens in TXRD2/Kaido Battle 3 where the 13 Devils get to race in the Touge.
Crazy how eutechnyx actually made a good racing game
Ewwwtechnyx is only one step above Davilex (or its successor, Team6) anyway.
But to give them credits, their NASCAR games were better than Heat 4 onwards.
Tbf, they made the PS1 Test Drive Le Mans, and I've heard some good things about SRS.

Only one thing I hate besides the physics is the lack of movie cars you can unlock. Some of them like Sean’s Evo or the Mustang is locked under “Multiplayer” which has been shut down since 2014.
This video genuinely makes me wonder what Genki would have been able to do with this, I would have been down for a TXR inspired F&F game. That aside this game is a bit simple in terms of gameplay but it does give you the freedom to play around a bit, more than I can say for F&F Showdown lol. Great video as always Dove!
there's this cancelled F&F game Genki's been cooking a while back in 2003, and to why it was being cancelled is anyone's guess
Would be the pinnacle of Genki, because this game has content for Wangan and Touge enthusiasts.
This game could have been the absolute bomb if the physics weren't atrocious ngl 😭
It's amazing how we never got a truly good Fast and Furious game despite how much easier it should have been compared to other games based on movie franchises. Even this game, despite all the things it does well, falls short of being as good as games like the Midnight Club games or the Need for Speed Underground games due to it's weird handling model. Kinda funny how other racing game franchises essentially made better Fast and Furious games than the actual Fast and Furious games. I do fully believe that Genki could have made this game even better but I think they still would have run into some problems (I think the reason why the actors from the F&F series don't appear in the game is probably due to a lack of money).
Also I kinda see some similarities with this and NFS 2015: Both games had great customisation, nailed their vibes and featured good car lists and soundtracks but were ultimately let down by their weird handling models.
Even has a 4-Door R34 which I found much more cooler than the regular GTR. Felt like a rival to the Chaser in some aspects lol.
Play the PSP version on PPSSPP on ur pc or android device
It has no graphical issues
But no traffic density.

I miss games that dive deep into the car customization lore. We don't see anymore brands like C-West, Veilside, Bomex, Chargespeed, BN Sports. That game was perfect for car customization nerds

4:25 Certain parts also work better in combination other mods on your car.
Like if you install an exhaust on a stock car, it'll not give you a significant hp increase but if you install that same exhaust with like a Level 4 Turbo, you'll get a major horsepower boost from the exhaust
Just going through the oppenent description alone, in turn discovering JDM Insiders, Grip Video and GT NET as media partners picked out by Toshi ( one of the Technical advisor of FnF: Tokyo Drift, current Liberty Walk CEO, he was working under APEXi Engineering during that time) is worth your time emulating this game.
I played this game before when I was still a child. The only thing I remember about extreme levels of tuning options and customization. The song on this game although limited music those songs still hits me hard

oh btw, idk if you care about that but you're correct, there's some strange/interesting unicorn cars like the Mitsubishi Sport Concept (Lancer Hatchback Concept) and 2005 Lexus LFA concept etc.
I remember this game so well and honestly back then it was truly special with all the customization options in general really really good and underrated imo
I remember this game wherein you can earn more credits by buying pre-tuned cars and sell it right away. Still one of underrated racing games at that time.
I'd like to see an F&F game made by Genki! Imagine a crossover between NFS Underground and TXR
I mean there was this Fast & Furious game made by these guys that's somehow got ditched in favor of TXR3/SB01, a lot of gameplay elements in that game definitely reeks Racing Battle C1 GP's when you go at the high speeds

This game brings me back to the days when I couldn't understand how to play TXRD2's Quest Mode 😂 didn't even know what TXR was back then, so F&F seemed super cool, but now that I replayed it fresh after my first playthrough of TXR3 it definitely doesn't hit like it did as a kid. I still love it, the customization is awesome and so is the music, the carlist, the cameos of people from the automotive world, the whole vibe in general. I can forgive the dreadful handling and the fact it cheats on some drift events and forces you to cheat by doing endless donuts, the only real let down for me is the fact there's isn't much to do at all apart from customising and collecting. You can do a full playthrough in a few hours
this game may be the best f&f game but playing this game has never been more painful just because of the weird physics and handling model alone 😭
Loved this game all the way back in 2006. I was so pleasantly surprised!
The physics are terrible but the modification is 🔥🔥🔥the fact that they use real kits and spoilers from real tuners which are catered differently for each cars are thousand times better than NFS of its era
At least this game impressed me and I do love F&F. But later years however, the other later games are kinda bad enough. With the controversial 2013 F&F game that got labelled as an NFS The Run ripoff and the 2020 game entirely pissed off the F&F fans or etc., this game at least are being an almost true F&F game, but still taking some elements from TXR and Street Racing Syndicate. And another thing is I am going to try this game out some day bcuz I don't mind planning on playing too much live service racing games for now...
Back then people probably will just buy a game based on the title or the cover art at a store in the mall

I played this game like no tomorrow back then.
Once you almost get the idea of how the handling works, it's fun. If you crash just laugh it out.
I'd always came back to drift race against that blue rx7, both of us drifting at 90 degree angle going downhill.
The art direction and mechanics almost feels like a spiritual successor to Auto Modellista and OMG i wish we had a new Auto Modellista .
This game is underrated..yes the loading times are LOOOONG but dam did I enjoy this game on PS2, still have it somewhere too, yes the handling is a bit out there but when you get it, it's very satisfying
Dafuq? This looked good! 😂 I like the effects when the NOS hit and when the camera tilted a bit during high speed, really adds to the immersion. How the hell did I miss this game.
I'm stuck at 99% completion in this game because the last wanderer just wont spawn.

My wise word of advice if you want to try this game. Love the Wangan, avoid the Drifting like a Plague...
this, at least I can watch Chuunibyou, Oshi No Ko, and Yumemiru Danshi English dubs while reciting SpongeBob edited lines just fine, but one has to lost the will to live when they managed to get through the final touge stage in this game on their first try

You gotta check out Crash N Burn next. Underrated imo. Even Full Auto.
But maybe try checking out Gran Turismo 2 Project A Spec mod next
I honestly thought the F&F mobile games were alright, might be childhood bias tho
I loved the Tokyo Drift mobile game. I used to play it on my older brother's Sony Ericsson K550i back when I was 8 years old. I remember it having a surprisingly deep livery editor for a mobile game and I would spend over an hour trying to recreate liveries from other racing games like Eddie's Skyline, Ryan Cooper's 240SX etc. They still looked very pixelated while racing but I had fun making them.
God man I remember my mom would be telling me I thought I was playing that unreleased game from Genki for The Fast and The Furious :( It looked so dope, I think the only close thing I found at the time was the arcade game for it
Would always be replaying that trailer on the 2Fast2Furious DVD, I'd kill for that to release properly or have some kind of leak for what was built
I played this game on the PSP growing up and it honestly was a lot easier to drift than probably on the emulator.
I have such great memories of this game.
fun fact: Eutechnyx was originally called Zeppelin Games in the late 1980s then renamed to Merit Studios Europe in 1994 and then renamed again to Eutechnyx in 1997. And apparently you're right, they have been releasing so many garbage or shovelware look-alike game as shown in wikipedia page.
I'm still not over the fast and furious game getting cancelled in 2003. The trailer on the 2 fast 2 furious DVD got me so hyped
The funniest part is that the drifting techniques tuttorial is highly detailed and true to real life, but the application in game is completly inconsistent and random.

Probably the only "good" Fast and Furious game and definitely better than Crossroad or any other F&F game afterwards. It such a shame this game had so much potential but too bad it was made by Eutechnyx who always making a racing/driving game with bad physics and also infamously known for the guy who made Ride To Hell: Retribution 1%.
The only downside to this game is the PSP version... I've broke mine while trying to get past DK on the last round

Ah yes I love this game.
Absolutely janky and frustrating, but it has so much heart, car customization to this day is on another level, seeing so many real aftermarket brands and real parts was a *dream* for me, and one that I sadly think we're never going to see it again.

Ok I'm gonna be honest I tried this game because of these type of videos and after 3 togue races I gave up. And it's not like the highway racing is good either, it's just that with highways the jank is less noticeable
I feel like this game was almost good but the driving is just way too jank, I couldn't really enjoy it that much when the core gameplay feels wrong
This game was my childhood lol, I didn't have a memory card for my ps2 so i had to beat it from the beginning every time I wanted to play it..... Eh, good times

I enjoy the game for what it is but
I feel like this game was rushed due to the amount of unused roads you can see all over the game; there is one part of the map where it looks like an entire highway was cut from the game.

Good? No, physics are awful, graphics bad, many bugs, but really cool music, cars, and many visual tuning not do this game good(
Overall quality of course isn't good but when you compared a console games adaptation of Fast and Furious then this game is the only decent one, at least it's still captured what FAF movie was meant to be especially the Tokyo Drift

Absolutely hated this game. Rough graphics, filled with frame rate drops and hideous loading times on top of a mediocre game really let me down. It's a good idea, it just doesn't work.
Handling is just bad. I like the developer though. Total Drivin' and Le Mans on PS1 were good games.
.......My dude, what about the Fast & Furious games by Raw Thrills? Those are fun and MASSIVELY successful. Outside of the weird wii port that was renamed to Cruisn', they made a ton of money and were good enough to get like 6+ games made. You can still find at least one in any random arcade here in the states.
Don't know if I hate more this game or what it could be if Genki didn't dropped from the development.
The handling is terrible, even dominating the gameplay, the fun is zero.
