- Another fabulous Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer collaboration performed dynamically by Johnny in the 1997 special on Johnny Mercer This is the last of three solos he performed in the show, (Moon River and Laura are posted as well). As always, Johnny expresses (exudes) his particular magic- the enthusiastic response by the audience says it all!
For those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving - wishes for a happy one for you and yours. And, we can again be thankful for Johnny's rich legacy and all that he continues to create and share ~ Enjoy! - Zábava
WONDERFUL SONG. JOHNNY YOU ADD A SPECIAL HAPPINESS TO ALL THE MUSIC.VERY SPECIAL.
Nothing better than the voice of Johnny Mathis and a full orchestra.
Omg ..Beautiful
Mancini and Johnny...two masters of song, together on one stage. IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS, FOLKS! And I'm only 39 years old!
Absolutely amazing voice!!
Love this...😊
More Mancini, Mercer, Mathis Magic. 🤎
Just love Johnny Matthis!!!!!
O melhor cantor que o mundo já teve e tem. Com 87 continua encantando a todos os fans com sua linda voz. Parabéns Johnny Mathis "THE BEST ".
He's just fabulous. I'm so fortunate that I saw him in person in Milwaukee many years ago
Johnny one of my favorite songs. Thank You. MARY
I love this song. A Johnny Mercer masterpiece that feels like Summer. Johnny lends his class and perfect voice to make this song Real Magic 💜
Jonny e siplesmente magnifico !!
Perfect,my Johnny!
My most favorite all time great American singer singing theme song of a favorite movie
So beautiful. Johnny just sings with such emotion withe the beautiful talent to sing & perform. 🎶❤️
Moment to moment ,são momentos de minha vida que escuto Johnny Mathis . Há 52 anos
eu o escuto com a mesma emoção . Tive o privilégio de ver um conserto dele em Belo Horizonte em 1973. Maravilhoso. Amazing.
É o maior cantor do mundo!
This is what flying must feel like! Such soaring power and smooth direction changes. To be caught in an upward wind draft. This song and arrangement are exhilarating!
+cadicorniche - just seeing this now for some reason- it's a fabulous song- love Johnny's delivery.
Beautiful song...I cannot forget Maestra Grace for teaching me this song! Love it!
The song is as beautiful as the people in the movie.R.I.P.
Always wonderful J. Mathis!Thank you!
Johnny at the top of his vocal performance. Nobody like him.
l appreciate the orchestra and musical abilities of such wonderful musicians.l had such a great Jr high band l was teaching but the ones who could not keep up would somehow forget their instruments and sit in the back and cause the trouble for other people trying to learn and practice. l appreciate any musicians dedication to music so we can all enjoy it
It's from "The Shadow of Your Smile", 1966, on the Mercury label. The orchestra is terrific. The arrangement is terrific. The audience is terrific. And there is no one, absolutely no one, who is even close to Johnny Mathis. I saw him in 2013 and the first song he sang was "Gina," from "Johnny's Newest Hits." I still feel the thrill of seeing JM for the first time. How many of you can sing every word of every song on "Johnny's Greatest Hits?" I'ts been over fifty years for me.
Una voz maravillosa 💕💐
one of the greatest voices ever laS VEGAS NV SAW HIM MANY TIMES AMAZING
Such a beautiful voice and such style.
I'm so glad you're enjoying these - so many great videos of him here on CZcams- I love making them and sharing live ones when I can. I may be able to extract a video of the one you'd like-. I will try. Thanks so much for your comments- I appreciate it. Yes- that smile--- .........
Do you know what occasion this was? What year & who’s the conductor.?
The movie is one of my absolute favorites. The song is so beautiful. But much slower and softer.
thank you- so glad to share these. You might be able to find a copy of the VHS online. They are all wonderful performances- he is just great- as always- and super great here! Thanks for your well wishes- we all have much to be thankful for. Enjoy:)
thank you- I love itl- you put it well! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fabulous setting and he is wonderful in every moment. Thank you.
Played softball for years with Scott Lavender, Johnny's pianist here. Great shortstop (and conductor). And what a great singer Johnny is! Always love hearing his voice over the opening/closing credits of movies. (Remember when songs used to open/end movies?) czcams.com/video/DkeAoSS-QS8/video.html
Every moment to moment ily,nnly
Johnny is the ultmate professional. Knows how to move on stage
Es y sera el unico .dulce total
Always a 10❤️🎶🥰🎶
Ĺo admiro. Tanto es unico
Like the five-star rating says - "Awesome!" All three songs Johnny sang, on that show are keepsakes, and I wish they would be included on a DVD someday, soon! Thanks, Lenore, for the Happy Thanksgiving wishes. We wish you and yours, the same!
Great performance
@1uniquemonique - Thanks- so glad you like it - I love Johnny's energy in this song- such a beautiful one. He just keeps going and going and offering so much pleasure to all of us. I was fortunate to get this from a friend - it is a PBS special. Unfortunately I see there was never a DVD made of it- you might be able to find a VHS- I looked once. Truly, as you say, a treasure- I'd say a global one- not just U.S.! Enjoy:)
Love the horn section.
Great song arrangement
You're welcome- it's great to be able to share these precious video 'moments'- ! thanks for coming by- so glad you enjoyed it.
This man melts my only one heart saved for him...love u JM thanku Lenore xxx
Clear as pure water 💦 🎶💧🎶 💦
I like this jazzed up version
No DVD ever made, however lucky enough to find a VHS on Amazon a couple of years ago. No I have to go find where I stored it. In the meantime, your postings of this Biltmore Estate performance in Asheville NC 1997 will hold me over. Hands down, Johnny Mathis was its star performer.
i remembered this performance-done at the Biltmore mansion in North Carolina

Has anyone seen the movie of the same title? It's from the 60s and is about a woman who has an affair which goes horribly wrong, like "Fatal Attraction." I saw this movie on TV before cable TV as a teenager and this title song so fit the mood of the movie that the melody stayed in my mind for years. I was able to hum it without knowing the words until I finally bought a Mancini CD with this song, joyous that I had found it on disc at last. Outstanding song! Two excellent artists!
@ilovesheenaeaston - Thank you for publicly validating which is so obvious and true- that all ages up and down the spectrum- and people across geographical cultures love and fully appreciate, enjoy - are enthralled - by not only this wonderful pairing of talents- but of Johnny's gifts. thank you - and Enjoy!
heheh .. yes nothing better than being in love .. I've loved you for what eight years now from afar xoxo
@ilovesheenaeaston - thank you for the movie information- i've not heard of it. I love this song and I just can't imagine anyone other than Johnny singing it.
(and he's also so adorable here :)
simplesmente maravilhoso.
well you can 'blame' Johnny Mercer for those lyrics! I think it's extremely romantic (the lyrics)- then with Johnny singing it- it goes to a whole new level. enjoy
@creolelady182 - agreed- he just flows with it all- he 'is' the music:)
@lenoremewton That new VHS still there for $99. 3 used VHS's for around $45. My feelings and you probably agree, Johnny Mathis was the best of all the performers. Thanks.
@damone77 - I love this song- and Johnny brings such great energy to it! Yummy! so glad you enjoyed it.
@creolelady182 very glad you like it- thanks for your comments
@kingusmcgee - sorry to hear it is so costly. He IS the best - lucky us- he is so wonderful in concert- and we have all of his earlier work to enjoy. Happy Holidays.
Love you Mr Mathis xxxxSusan U.K.
@creolelady182 Didn't see a DVD, however saw an audio CD. Thanks.
I spotted an audio CD but no DVD. Thanks anyway, will keep looking

Standing O.
I am seeing this fantastic performance again-a somewhat difficult song to sing in this new arrangement but I was wondering what female singer could handle the pace of the song.
Who is conducting the orchestra? Any one know?
@kingusmcgee I have not looked for a while- but there was a VHS of this performance at one time- you might try that. All the best:)

Lenore, where do you get these treasures??? Johnny is truly a treasure. I put this in my playlist and favorites. Thanks for sharing.
@lenoremewton
I just bought the audio cd to this Biltmore House concert on Amazon
@creolelady182 - Great- enjoy it- all the music from that show is wonderful- while biased about Johnny's performances- it's a great ensemble.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
😂y❤❤7❤❤❤❤8❤❤8❤❤❤8😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@creolelady182 - Is this performance available on DVD. Was done at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC 1997
@ilovesheenaeaston
Yes I have seen this movie
Sinatra did it, A. Williams did it, Mathis did it; like to see if Rod Stewartcould top his remake of: 1989 This Old Heart of Mine???!!loveDD
@lenoremewton
Has Johnny won any Grammy's? I have never seen him on this show
I know the arranger was/is John Garland.
Quem não gostar que vai ver e ouvir notícias de covid 19 e baladas nas periferias kkkkkkk
Who is the music conductor ?
@voidforpurpose - Certainly to each his own opinion. I don't think Henry Mancini would've agreed though- he and Johnny were quite connected and Johnny has sung this many times over the years in concerts and specials- always with that same rhythm. I don't know how the original tempo was written. I also don't think this is at all meant to be a 'dance' number- if anyone knows a ballad when they hear one it would be Johnny Mathis- but you have a right to your perspective.

@kingusmcgee
Yes look under johnny Mercer in the search engine of Amazon
Who is the conductor ?
Peter Nero was the conductor- The PBS special was "Too Marvelous for Words"
.
Too fast.
It's a poignant ballad not a dance number.
