    Can any kind of silicone be used in sealing leaks??

    • @freshflowaquatics
      @freshflowaquatics  Před 9 měsíci +2

      There is generally some conflicting views on what kind of silicone is safe to use. My rule of thumb is to look for something that is 100% silicone with no mold inhibitors. Unfortunately silicone is often branded as being mold free even if it doesn't have mold inhibitors. You can go with GE Silicone 1. I've used GE Silicone 2 and Supreme as well, which some people seem to have problems with, but I haven't found any evidence that they are bad for fish or other livestock. Here's a link for Silicone 1 ⬇️

    Did you reseal the outside corners? Could you use masking tape?
    Is it still ok to do this on a tank that has no frame but is eurobraced?

    • @freshflowaquatics
      @freshflowaquatics  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I did not reseal the outside corners per se. The thick bead of silicone along the top got squished out a bit when I pushed the plastic brace back into place, so some silicone ended up on the outside corners along the top. It's not necessary though to seal the outside. Masking tape should work fine.
      Unfortunately I've never had a eurobraced tank, so I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine the process would be the same. Might be worth looking into that one a little more.

    Is it necessary to reseal all aquarium.??

    • @freshflowaquatics
      @freshflowaquatics  Před 7 měsíci +2

      It's definitely recommended. I've got away with only resealing short segments of small aquariums in the past, but I wouldn't risk it on a big tank.

    please tell me silicon types.😢

    • @freshflowaquatics
      @freshflowaquatics  Před 2 měsíci

      It's safest to use aquarium silicone. There are a lot of other types you can get, but there's a fair bit of uncertainty to whether or not "100% silicone" is actually 100% - meaning does it have mold inhibitors or other stuff? If it's 100% shouldn't it be food safe? So on so forth. Personally I've used a few different GE products, but these days I'm hesitant to recommend those. Here's one that's sold specifically for fish tanks ⬇️

    How many years will it last? The silicon

    • @freshflowaquatics
      @freshflowaquatics  Před 4 měsíci +2

      It really depends on the situation. Strong light is probably the biggest contributor to silicone breaking down. Another big factor is how hard you are on scrubbing them. A seal should last AT LEAST 10 years and I've seen some tanks go on for almost 40 years on an original seal. Seems like a lot of the newer budget tanks like Aqueon don't last nearly as long.

      @freshflowaquatics  Před 4 měsíci

      @@Sickcarclips Are you talking about an Aqueon or something from a big box store? Through the years working at stores and owning my maintenance company I've seen a lot of people get set up with those tanks and very very few of them leak. It's never a bad idea to test fill it somewhere safer than your house, like garage or backyard if it's not freezing or super hot out. Personally I wouldn't reseal it... Unless you saw a major issue with the seal, in which case I'd return it for another one.
