    Astell&Kern makes some of the best portable music players on the market, there's no doubt about that. Their A&norma lineup of DAPs is aimed at the entry-level or beginner audiophile. Sure they're still a bit pricey for some, but I'll tell you right now, you won't find this many premium features and performance in any other DAP under a thousand bucks.

    Is there a mode where you could bypass all the dac chips to use an external dac with it? Like a mojo II...

      @moon-audio  Před rokem +1

      Yep, you can use USB audio out mode to the Chord Mojo 2 just fine! 🙂

    I was thinking of getting this for my car, but I need Optical out from the DAP to enable me to connect it to my Audison F8.9 DSP/Amp Toslink input, however I understand the 3.5mm jack doesn't output Optical?

    • @moon-audio
      @moon-audio  Před rokem +4

      The Astell&Kern SR35 can, in fact, output an optical signal via mini-Toslink through the 3.5mm plug. We can even make you a custom Silver Dragon Toslink Digital Cable if you're interested: www.moon-audio.com/silver-dragon-toslink-digital-cable.html 🙂

    Hi am thinking of buying a SR35 but was wondering will I get a better sound by getting a balanced 2.5/ 4.4 cable to get the full power out of this unit 6Vrms . I have a pair of Campfire mammoth iem

    • @moon-audio
      @moon-audio  Před 11 měsíci

      We recommend the the 4.4mm connector whenever possible as it's a much sturdier connector than the 2.5mm and the sound is just as good!

      @moon-audio  Před rokem +1

      It depends if you're wanting a streaming music player or just a dongle DAC. The RU7 will work just fine with your phone if that is your main music source device. Otherwise if you're wanting a designated music player, then we think the SR35 is the way to go. 🙂

    Stupid question, do you pair a dap with your phone for internet access or can it use a sim card for mobile data?

    • @moon-audio
      @moon-audio  Před rokem

      Great question! You can tether this DAP and many others if your phone allows for a mobile hotspot. Otherwise, just hook up your DAP to any solid Wi-Fi connection and you're good to go! Most (if not all) DAPs do not have a SIM card port. Hope this helps! 🙂

    ... and the battery is not user replaceable. 🤪

    • @elvnmagi9048

      These polymer "pillow" batteries many of these kinds of players are using are junk. My Hiby R3 Pro Saber battery has crapped out after 2 years. They want me to pay to ship it to china and back and only claim $25 worth insurance to avoid customs. They said they'd charge $15 to fix it and another $15 to ship it back. I'd probably pay $15 - $30 to get it there one way too, and probably wait month(s) of downtime.
      I read a review on the A&K SR25 on crutchfield product page where the reviewer said their battery inflated and popped the chassis. I've gone through two $200 hiby r3 players , 1 yr on one that died, now 2 yrs on the pro saber that is definitely the battery as it will run off of wall power still. I use it mainly as a mobile device though so that's not very useful to me limited to being plugged in. Plugging the hiby into mobile power bank batteries still times it out and causes a hard shut down within 20 minutes and the only way I can get it to turn back on solidly is to plug it in to wall power directly.
      $700+ on a A&K SR35 using the same kind of battery tech makes me hesitate to buy something like these. I'd rather just use regular cylinder batteries or rechargable packs, or at least user accessible panel with molex battery connector and easy to find/accessible replacement battery types in the usa. These mfgs, both Hiby and Astell&Kern have no service in the usa so require long shipping time to china or Korea with long turnaround at your own shipping costs. It's bad battery tech and a bad support systems that drop battery support after 1yr - so I am shying away from throwing more money away on somewhat more expensive models like this A&K SR35.
      Crutchifield reviewer on the A&K SR35 product page from 8/2023:
      "Actually have an SR25 but this applies to every A&E product. The battery swelled up and popped off the back. A bit of research found this is actually quite common with lithium batteries like this. Such batteries are dangerous. AnE's new service policy requires sending it to Korea to replace the battery. They will not sell you a battery and it is unique to AE. Shipping to Korea can be very expensive. Much more than shipping from Korea. My attempts to ship an electronics device overseas has led me to find that the post office will not accept a device with a lithium battery. This means that even warranty repairs are going to be expensive and slow. Buyer be aware. I did like my now worthless device."
      I ordered a similarly rated and sized replacement battery off of amazon/alibaba for my hiby but it will require some soldering and then crossing my fingers. I'm pretty shy of dropping $700 - $800 on a higher end player than the hiby ones using the same kind of cheap polymer pillow batteries that aren't durable.
      It's a shame because the devices themselves seem pretty great. I loved my hiby units and the A&K SR35 seems really nice otherwise.
