  • Does 32GB in fact improve the performance over 16GB when using the new Intel integrated GPUs for gaming?

    You can virtually limit the available memory for the Windows OS, but without physically disabling or removing the ram sticks (or desoldered the bga and flashed eprom and BIOS to register the new 16GB RAM in this instance) you cannot serve this as an accurate, fool proof, scientific conclusion. The best way of observing the differences would be achieved by comparing 16GB configuration with a 32GB one.

    On a GTX 780 reference I only got like 25 fps in red dead 2 on 1080p with everything on low. We are at a point where integrated graphics has beaten the flagship card from when I bought my first gaming PC 10 years ago.

    • @Hubwood

      Probably the engine. I'm sure in most games the 780 should still be faster 😉

      @@Hubwood I was so sad when I thought "Wow, this might actually be as fast as an RTX 2050!" But it ended up being another one of Intel's disappointments. It's really the speed of a GTX 1630, which is just a paperweight. My i5-10200H and RTX 2060 Max Q still going strong over 4 years later.

    • @AArrad
      @AArrad Před 16 dny

      @@RobloxianXmaybe we are 4 years from having an iGPU as powerful as a 2060. Next year AMD will have 4060-4070 performance in an iGPU, but those chips are high wattage.
      Efficient chips will need a few years to reach that point.

    • @CHT1992
      @CHT1992 Před 10 dny

      @@AArrad AMD's current APUs can trade blows with gtx 1650M in some cases, which is more or less around the same type of performace from RX 570 on desktop from AMD (RX being a stronger contender than the 1650m), these are possibly the 2 closest GPUs to the current strongest APU we have from AMD in the market, of course there are games that outright destroy the APUs but there are also games that take better advantage of newer tech, which implies better performance on the APU than the GPU.
      RTX 2060 max Q is ~20-30% faster than the RX 570, so... if the 16 CU APU can deliver upwards to 20-30% increase in performance when compared to current best from AMD, we could assume that the next handheld APU will offer performance close to a 2060 max q. Obviously it won't beat it and will have a much harder time beating than previous GPU vs APU comparisions, because the RTX lineup is too damn OP for a handheld to beat just yet, but getting close to it is a remarkable feat.
      According to some leaks, AMD is going to stop APU production for a couple of years, so it will have no innovation for like 2 lineups after this one, by the time they touch the subject again, the leap in performance is going to be massive. If they were to achieve a 20-30% increase per lineup after the next one we are getting soon, considering 2 more generations would occur, each generation could use RDNA 4 CUs and RDNA 5 CUs, it could be possible to achieve massive gains... But this is all down to AMD wanting it to happen or not.
      An APU will never beat a GPU consistently across the board, but achieving similar results is good enough for me. Considering the fact that a good portion of these setups with GPUs are using way more energy to get that performance.

    I backed the OnexPlayer X1 to use as handheld and laptop instead of a legion go. I got the 155 32gb ram version but now wondering if its worth it? think the drivers will get better to match the z1 extreme in the Go? Was watching the Go play this at a pretty steady 55-60 fps and hoping the Ultra and X1 can do that as well after driver updates

      Still holding my pre order but I am starting to think of a Go or maybe even a 7840 handheld. But I really like the 3 in 1 form factor and size of the x1 and would be happy If I got legion/ally performance so i do want to keep it and do hear that if id had the drivers it needed on paper it should be better than the z1 extreme/7840 so Im hopefully for that. But if I'm getting less than that and its getting closer and still the same i might cancel, if I don't ill have to sell it myself for a little lose then get Go and feel dumb, lol.@@DeNo1Designer

    Prime usually tests Forza in game in free play mode. You are running the built-in benchmark which is much more stressful aka worst case scenario performance. That's why he is probably getting much higher fps. You should just tool around for a minute like he does and see how it performs. My guess is much closer to his results.

    • @Hubwood
      @Hubwood  Před 4 měsíci +4

      Yeah the benefit of the benchmark is that everyone can compare it perfectly 1:1 With their own system whatsoever. Not possible with free roaming. There are some areas on the west side of the map in the desert that get very high fps, but it's unfair to show these IMHO. The rest of the map would run worse.

    he is using the benchmarks which is the way to go, because it will be the same for each computer, it's impossible to free play exactly the same twice. Also for the comments about RAM Usage: windows and games/apps will enquire how much is available and make the most out of it, loading as much assets as possible to the RAM. If there isn't too much, the SSD will be used, either way ssds nowadays are very fast and if the game is well coded, the ssd speed is enough to simulate RAM. So RAM usage as his is normal. On my Surface Pro 8 with 8 gb ram the ssd is much more usedthan on a 16 gb version. The same happens on MacOS.
