  • There are probably several things going on. It is possible that this tree is getting too much love and is being overwatered. Horticulturist Dr. Lelia Kelly says if a plant is not doing well, look at the roots. Looking at the pictures the are roots exposed. The tree may be planted too shallow. Also, some of the roots look like they are circling and possible girdling the tree. This tree probably needs to be dug up, the roots “un-circled” and replanted at the correct depth.

I found a small Gingko that I planted when it was a foot high. When it was 5' high I moved, dug it up, and replanted it. It grew to 15' to 20' high over the next 15 years. When I wasn't home my landlord cut it down to 4' high. I screamed like a seething banshee. It quickly grew back a bit deformed to a considerable height. Landlord sold the property to a new landlord. After a few years the new creep cut it down to the ground again when I wasn't home. It sprouted from a dozen buds around what was left of the trunk and grew back like a bush. I moved again leaving it there and have since bought 2 small Gingkos to try growing them again. I love Gingko trees!

I think my ginkgo has leaf scorch. Is there anything I can do?

Hi, my husband bought me 3 ginkgo seedlings that are about 8-9" tall. I have a hystory of over watering plants and trees. I'm trying to not LOVE my plants too much, LoL! For my seedlings should I up pot them and keep them in pots for another couple years? I've read they need sandy + good soil, which I can do. Is this correct or should I trans plant in the ground? I'll have to bring in sand for the ground, which I can get from the Clearwater.
