  • PMI’s Project Management Professional - or PMP - and PRINCE2 are two of the most sought-after project management certifications. But what are the differences and how do you choose?
    PMP stands for Project Management Professional. It is the principal qualification of the Project Management Institute. Organizations around the world recognize it as a benchmark for solid professional project management skills.
    PRINCE2 is a project management methodology that arose in the UK public sector. Its primary focus is on strong governance. PRINCE2 certifications carry an assurance that holders understand the basics of a rigorous PM approach.
    I focus on:
    - Purpose: Who are they for?
    - The Nature of each Approach
    - The PMP Syllabus and the PRINCE2 Syllabus

    They are quite different in many ways, but I do often get asked, 'What's the difference between the PMP and PRINCE2?' So, here's my answer.

    Recently got (PMP)® Certified. your videos really helped Mike.

    Even though I am a PMP myself I would see them both as being equally valuable when I was hiring PMs.

      Indeed - neither is better than the other (although the current PMP syllabus is far broader). It's all about context.

    That for sharing your knowledge in these areas. What about APM?

    Good video and interesting comparison. I've started to see the Google Project Management certification appearing in LinkedIn bios lately, on the website it claims over 1m have enrolled on the course. Any thoughts on this? Could it replace PMI, PRINCE2, etc?

    • @Onlinepmcourses
      @Onlinepmcourses  Před rokem +4

      Apples 🍏 and oranges 🍊. PMI is an organization so a better comparison is between the Google PM certification and PMI’s two main certs: PMP and CAPM. I think the Google certification will sit alongside CAPM rather than replace it as an entry level PM certification. I don’t think its current syllabus is as broad and deep as PMP. PRINCE2 is,as I explained in the video, a very different beast. I don’t see the Google certification competing with it. But your question does remind me to move my plan for a video on Google Project Management Certification up my backlog!

    What kind of work experience counts towards the experience requirement for PMP certification?

    • @Onlinepmcourses
      @Onlinepmcourses  Před 11 měsíci +2

      For PMP certification, you need to show 36 or 60 months of experience leading projects within the past eight years.
      Always check the PMI website (this page has the requirements [June 2023] www.pmi.org/certifications/project-management-pmp/earn-the-pmp/how-to-apply) and download an up-to-date Certification Handbook (here in June 2023 www.pmi.org/certifications/project-management-pmp) if you are serious about applying.

    • @RobertWoodman
      @RobertWoodman Před 11 měsíci

      @@Onlinepmcourses What counts as "leading projects"? I'm a professional scientist working for a chemical manufacturer. I've been responsible for projects such as stability studies of chemical products we make and developing new analytical methods for new products. Do those things count as project management? Or are we talking about something different?

    • @Onlinepmcourses
      @Onlinepmcourses  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@RobertWoodman - 'I've been responsible for projects'... If that's true, then the time of those projects should count. Start compiling records of that time and think how you would demonstrate this under audit. For example, what are the dates, who did you lead, sho could attest to your roles? I can't speak for PMI, though. So, if in doubt, your best bet would be to contact them.

    PMP exam 2023 is based on PMBOK 6th edition or 7th edition?

    • @Onlinepmcourses
      @Onlinepmcourses  Před rokem +1

      Neither and both. PMP exam has never been a test of PMBOK knowledge. The current syllabus recommends PMBOK 7 as one reference among many. PMBOK 6 content is also valuable and PMI recommends you get it from the PMIStandards+ website.
