My son’s favorite book as a child was the Velveteen Rabbit. “Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. Thank you. You brought a ton of memories from my childhood flooding back. I was raised in West Sussex, England and my mum used to make soft toys, sitting cats with their tail wrapped around the paws, small bunnies and tall standing ones. I still have my yellow and white upright rabbit, Moses, almost 60 yrs old. My daughter, I believe, still has her little pink and white bunny, his little white tail I found in my sewing box the other day, it is over 40 yrs old. We would cut the scraps of fur to use as part of the stuffing for the toys nothing was wasted. I learned how to use a needle to pull the fur out of the seams. She also made little felt animals, the stitching on the outside as they were so small, we helped stitch and stuff those too. I wonder how many of those soft toys still exist today. Memory lane can be filled with joy. Saskatchewan, Canada
