- Google has announced its new Axion processor. It is Google first Arm based CPU for the data center. Based on the 64-bit Arm Neoverse V2 CPU, the new processor is designed for general-purpose workloads like web and app servers, microservices, databases, and CPU-based AI workloads.

Certainly that's the possibility but it looks Qualcomm's X-Elite will be even more powerful in comparison to Google's next get CPU for Chromebooks. Arm design will certainly play even more significant role in future because of its super efficient design.

Not sure about performance efficiency against x86-64? Is it in a cluster or against single socket system? Only time will tell how good Arm architecture is on desktop and laptop. Snapdragon Elite might compete on equal price footing with Apple silicon
how many Intel/AMD cores & memory is used to do the same workload that ARM 64 cores do?
sometimes, as apple shows us, it's better to skip the first waves imo and rather be at the forefront of the next technical leap and in the best case with matured user experience. often leapfrogging the pioneers who "lost blood and sweat at the edge" when it was more sharp and less cozy there if you are able to catch up that is :)

I said it over decade ago that Arm ISA design is a future not just for smartphones and small power restricted devices. x86 will continue to be relevant but for cloud use custom Arm is excellent. It's about time Google moved in this direction, should be done long time ago.
I'd like to see the snapdragon 900s having 10 arm v9.? cores and graphics power for 1440p60 games.

I never thought how we want more efficient components in our phones and laptops, we generaally don't care about the power consumption for our PC but the more we scale from a regular computer to a supercomputer or a data center the more we start to talk about efficiency again.
that's the old mentality, maybe 10-15 years ago, lately Intel has be bashed over and over for how inefficient their chips are on PC consumer market
@@xeon2k8 I have not seen many people actually care. I only see Intel chips getting sold out.
@@davout5775 people as a generic is quite ignorant, they still have the "Intel Inside" marketing in their heads. Meant tech reviews or knowledgeable people that actually care, for example, for a good cooling system

My husband and I have switched to use of Amazon’s ARM services. We really like the fact that ARM processors are lower power so better for the environment.

Interesting that you think that Intel stopped innovating. You might be right, but what do you mean exactly? Each generation of Intel processor has improved performance and while AMD has been good competition, you can't say that AMD is miles ahead of Intel, which means that either AMD and Intel both stopped innovating or you mean something else by "innovating". I am curious.
@@GaryExplains Intel is many times bigger than AMD and the fact that AMD is ahead speaks for itself about Intel. Also since couple years already Intel sucks power consumption wise compared to AMD.
Intel is a fab company first, and a processor designer second. They have plenty of innovation; you just don't necessarily 'see' it the same way as with fables chip makers. I'm not a fan, but you have to give them credit where it's due. They implemented FINFET before TSMC did, for example.
@@GaryExplains their main product is x86 systems. Now that evryone under the sun is designing their own chips and with risc architecture. Intel is getting it's main market chipped away. They should have diversified early on in Fab, and when it comes to design say GPU, and open source risc etc
@@SomebodySomewhere-ul1eu recently they had record loss in running the Fab.
