- From the 1987 film Hachiko monogatari (a.k.a. Hachi-ko). Wonderful movie that tells the true story of an Akita's devotion to his master. Hollywood did a remake (called Hachiko: A Dog's Story) starring Richard Gere which has been released in Japan. I comes out in the U.S. on December 18, 2009.

About Hachikō on Wikimedia:
In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesamuroh Ueno (上野英三郎), a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life, Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. Even after Ueno's death in May 1925, Hachikō returned every day to the station to wait for him, and did so for the next 10 years.

Watched the English movie yesterday on TV; started watching lazily at first, wondering at its slow pace. After the master dies and Hachi takes centre stage, it becomes hard to control one's emotions. A long time since such a heart warming movie came along. May not forget Hachi at all, not for a long time to come!
I saw this movie and was so moved. Oh the pain the poor dog must have felt inside. There is NOTHING like the unconditional love of our furry friends. Remarkable. I was a basket case after watching it. This past Christmas I bought my daughter a shih-tzu - we named him Hachi, in honor of the most loyal dog I've ever known. May his memory live on forever in our hearts...may his example be the light to others. I love you Hachi. You are far better than 99% of the humans on this earth.

I regret and it will be forever engraved in my mind that I wasn't there when my dog passed away. I remember the last day I saw her, but even writing this I cry to think that I should have pet her and played every day before. I put her on a hill where we used to walk and when I visit home, I just sit there for a while by her side. Every now and then I remember.

i watched this movie before....
it is really heart touching and sad....at the end of the movie,the professor wife saw the article in the news that Hachiko is still waiting for the professor at the train station.
the professor wife wants to bring Hachiko home,but Hachiko hide away from her....
it doesnt want to go,insisting waiting for it's master that will never comeback.....
that scene really makes me cry....
Aww, this is so cute, and sweet. Makes me want to cry whenever I see the dog waiting for his owner to once again return. 10 years is a long time, but it just goes to show, some friendships were meant to last a lifetime.

Like so many others here, I can't watch this (or any other akita video) without crying. I lost my akita, Khan, to cancer in 2005. He was the finest dog I'd ever owned. I may soon get another akita, but I'm scared that I may expect the new dog to be like the him.
I only just found out about Hachiko today, what a sad story. Thats what I call undying Loyalty to his owner, clearly a friendship that never died, even in both his owners and Hachi's death. RIP both of you.
I really enjoy this song it really fits in with the movie about Hachi and his master may they rest in peace and enjoy the rest of their time together forever in heaven.

Saw the movie. Never in my life did I think I'd cry over a story about a dog. What makes it more powerful is how accurately the movie is to the real story.
Sorry if this is late but even the Japanese version of Hachiko wasn't totally accurate. In the movie, he was basically kicked to the curb after his master died but in reality, Hachi was very much loved and cared for by the professor's family and friends and later the public when they learned about his loyalty to his owner.

Hachiko's story has touched my heart, such a faithful and loyal dog. in fact he's not a dog, he's a symbol of how life should be. he's forever in my heart.

Wow. I had no idea this was made into a movie. I read the short-story when I was in the 2nd grade growing up in the Philippines. I am 39- years-old now and I still remember because the story touched me so much.

I read more about Hachiko's story and the truth is that two families tried to adopt him, but he kept escaping to return to the train station, waiting for his master to return. It is heart wrenching. The literature indicates that everyone knew that something was wrong the day that he did NOT show up at the train station. When they searched for him, they found him on a nearby side street, dead. When they examined him, they found that he had severe heart worm and had ingested 3 yakitori sticks

Its a special bond between man and dog that can never be broken. I never thought of him as a pet but as a actual member of my family. We all did. Hachiko and Poker are perfect examples of how far love can bond one being to another. Thank you for uploading this and bringing down memory lane. I always love thinking about my best friend

I remember reading about Hachiko when I was about 10 years old. Then I saw this video around the time it came out. I’m rewatching it now after all these years and it made me tear up all over again. Also makes me think about all our family dogs over the years and how I miss them and their loyal and loving selves.
Hachiko you're à rollmodel for mant people and children to understand THE real meaning of loyalty. Your story, bittersweet, but true. A dog as loyal as this may be honored in several ways. When surfing on the Internet I accidentally saw the trailer of the remake. Immediately my apparently well-hidden childhood-trauma came up again.....Hachiko was such a sad story!!!!
I remember when I was 10 or 11 years old, after seeing the movie on television I cried for the rest of the day...and now again...seeing the trailer I began to cry...and seeing this fan-made video I cry even harder!!! Great choice of music by the way...so sensitive! Good job!

I adopted an Akita 10 years ago, best thing I ever did. She is my best friend and loyal companion. This dog would take a bullet for me, no lie. It's their nature to watch over you.
oh i really cried coz I have dogs and my 12 y.o dog passed away last year and watching this vid made me miss him even more coz he's as faithful as hachiko, he waits for me every time i come home

I went to rhode islandto see hachi.it was a great movie.brought my dog to see hachi and friends.it was great to do the hachi trail.rest in peace hachi..and it was sad.great movie.

This is one of those movies that we love animals we are not ever going to remove the head, no matter how many versions do, this beautiful animal called Hachiko, as well as many others that have featured similar stories that leave us footprint we, as humans, who never in life or in history we will be able to star similires acts by our own condition of being human. no doubt this living being has earned his place in heaven among the greats.

i had a dog like Hatchiko.. her name was "Kulit" she was always with my mom to fetch me after school when i was in elementary, she knows where my classroom was, and always going there.. she used to go to market with us every afternoon, thats why whenever she cant find us in our home, she would go directly in market... some vendors would tell us that they saw our dog there, looking for us... She passed away at aged 5... i miss her so much.
I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive.
The American version, Hachiko tried to go to the train station for the last time. That part makes me cry a lot. : '-(
And the way he died, so...peacefully. And he also dreams about meeting his master again. I... really cried a lot.
