For those who are unfamiliar with the Thermite welding process, the red powder @ 1:31 is Foundry Sand which is used to seal the gaps around the mold. The grey powder @ 3:32 is Thermite which is a mixture of powdered Iron Oxide + powdered Aluminum. @ 4:25, the mold is preheated. @ 5:30, the Thermite contained inside the bucket is ignited. The high heat from the exothermic reaction produces molten iron which flows down into the mold. When the iron has solidified sufficiently, then the excess flash from the mold is ground off to make level and smooth the now repaired joint in the railway track.
Thank you!
Underrated comment :)
Thanks for kind information 👍
Wouldn't it just be easier to change out the rail(s) or is it ribbon steel?
@@vaughnmcmillan8400 this is just the way, how a changed out rail is joined into the track
Always wondered how they did this. I retired from the railroad and think the track workers are one of the most important assets of the railroad!
Simple tech and it works. It’s used in Australia too - simple and reliable.
Put on Again met some Indian guys for few few beers lately twice. 😊 Enjoyed tr Company. From Ireland

Excellent result.
Thanks for the upload.
Great to see professional repairers in the field.
and their safety footwear !
'professional repairers'
😂
Beautiful job
This Technique
Is Marvelous!
Absolutely intriguing! It's unexpectedly captivating, isn't it?
Stumbled across this. Absolutely captivating.
In wintertime the men was pleased to be near the welder's to keep warm honest
Ex rail worker worked in subzero temperatures
Blizards
Storms
Extreme heat...
And when cooled down enough, the slag made a good hand warmer, just be sure to wear your gloves 😉
Well Done. from Ireland. GT Video 😊🛤️🛤️🚆
Boa noite! Inscrita no Canal!! Belo flagrante!!👏👏🚂🙋♀️
I had fun with Thermite welding in the 60s.
I was doing that thru the 90's.
It was used on Sept. 11, 2001.
wow..sangat menabjubkan..
The last one I watched of this crew, they were sledgehammering of a piece of slag and cracked the weld right in two.
Thank you for uploading the video.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tx for sharing!!! :D
Ndokubasa!! From earthworks, sleepers installation, ballasting and rail alignment.
fingers and hands are versatile tools😌
That makes sense, saw a rail just to turn around and weld it again.
The rail they welded wasn't the same one they sawed. They sawed and removed a damaged rail then replaced with a new rail and welded that.
I had never heard of this until watching a documentary entitled "Epic Train Journeys From Above" on TV last night in which this exact technique was used. Then this shows up in my recommendations today. Weird.
It's always great. We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks
Keren banget dapat momen langka, pengelasan rel kereta api
At least these guys aren't wearing pajamas and their night shirts. They have lower safety standards if any in the far east. Watched a BNSF crew of two do 3 welds and they explained their work which was nice of them.
Great great work
same color temperature seen on the sparks on the side of the TWC before they collapsed
Note they have to grind the rail smooth. If there's an imperfection even as small as a penny on the tracks, the train will derail.
thermite is serious stuff.
white hot !
Looks fascinating, but that's a lot of unnecessary effort. Couldn't tracks just be, I don't know, screwed together, so they don't have to always be cut and molded, when replaced?
Just imagine what "elf n safety" on Network Rail would say! lol
The process is the same everywhere with continuous welded rail, but no PPE for the guys doing the work? Where is this? Somewhere with no safety culture.
One thing is CERTAIN....if I, or ANY of my co-workers were caught wearing those SHOES that some of those MW&S workers were wearing, that is a basis for you being dismissed! This has to be outside of the United States! But the same basic principal.
The usual to deal with armoured vehicles. Sludge-oil/crude-oil to stick to tracks and vehicle, diesel to stick to sludge, petrol to stick to diesel, thermite touch is classy-art.
Thermal detection of metal and emitters...
Hunt armour, army, ships, ...
Try commercial jet fuel, I heard that works well too.
Nah, that just weakens, doesn’t melt.
It was an Inside job m8. Americans were in bed with the Mujahideens, remeber?@@WashashoreProd
I am from Algeria. I worked in this field on the railway for five years with a private company, then we stopped after that. I want to continue this work in a state-owned company, and when I asked for my rights at work, they sent me to court 🤔🤔
Wow there seems to be what looks like molten metal pouring out the side of the building.
Seen something like this done with copper rods for grounding, deadly fumes.
Same exact thing happened to the steel on the twin towers in New York when they collapsed.
Impossible, thermite can't melt metal, saw it on Mythbusters🤣🤣
@@hansemannluchter643Google it, thermite is used for cutting or welding steel, I would stay away from myth busters.
It’s true. All metal has the same melting point. Mercury, steel, tungsten, it’s all the same!
Ahhh India……where safety is an afterthought. They also didn’t put the usual catchpans on either side to catch the extra slag/molten metal pouring out of the sides. Good thing they were on concrete ties, or else they would’ve set the damn track on fire!
There's a guy with brand new white snickers!
I wonder if the Railway company had closed the line off to trains whilst maintenence crews fix the broken rail. It's India, so maybe they have to do repairs inbetween train times on an open line which is highly dangerous to crews and railway passenger's. I hope it isn't the latter and that they adhere to common health and safety standards but judging on the attire of the work crew, I don't think they acoomodate much safety standards.
We know what to do

Those guys are fast.
The same stuff they used on 9-11...... imagine that.
Very good jobs
I see they're all wearing safety sneakers.
Oh, so they were only trying to STRENGTHEN the twins and WTC 7 when they used nano- thermite on 911! Gotcha. 😅
Booooo.
They didn't use thermite in the 9/11. Search Judy Woods speech in 2011 "where did the towers go"
Very good velding
Excellent video ! 👍
Excellent
That's a very nice wok 🥘
Always use safety shoes when do this repairing works.

Would it be better to change the entire rail, instead of this doubtful "surgery" repairing of its piese?
Indian Railways is the largest employer in the world, I believe.
Very good

This method was already used 20 years ago.

Definitely not in the UK with those soft shoes
Please tell their supervisors to give them goggles at least for all of the sparks flying that is soooo dangerous to the eyes
That cost money.the railroad is using them like slaves?
That's some fine safety equipment, and I love how they're all wearing some sort of uniform just so you know they're professionals. Which third-world garbage heap is this? Mexico? 😂
Nice
Interesting. But no PPE.
Not required when appling common sense.
They could have just used Jet Fuel to melt the steel beams.
nice
