I believe you need to remove the transmission to see if the bolts on the crank are torqued/ or cracks around the bolt holes. I know it sucks to remove the transmission, however its the only way to know for sure.

If you want more space between the flex plate and the torque converter without dropping the tranny, you can replace the bolts that hold the tranny to the back of the engine block with longer ones and that will let you slide it back a bit for testing

That starter sounds like its really tight when its meshing with the ring-gear on the flexplate.
You 100% sure the noise you hear isnt the flexplate just touching the starter pinion if its too close?
Or it could be the flexplate isnt running 100% true
Starter might need a shim or spacer to just move it off the block a smidge.

When the convertor gets bolted to the flexplate it might be distorting just enuf to give you your noise/issue/problem.

The way I changed my flexplate on my 84 c10 make sure block the tires disconnect the drive shaft from the rear end then pull it out the transmission. You already took the bolts off the torque converter then it the trans bolts put a jack under trans to support it then remove the cross member you can slide the trans back on the jack far enough get to your flex plate bolts

No you do not have to pull the transmission out most Chev there is enough room to remove the flywheel you have to use a 🔧 wrench or go to your local hardware store and get two 2"3/8-16 bolts remove the bottom bolts and replace them with these slide the transmission back, also check your starter out sounds like the Bendix spring is broken and causing the starter drive to touch the flywheel

More than likely the snout on the torque converter wasn't fully out of the bore in the crankshaft and the squeaking noise heard when the converter spun up to speed was the snout on the converter binding up in the bore due to friction. The bore isn't meant to be a rotating bearing for the converter but is more of a guide. This is why the bore and snout must be lightly greased upon installation so the converter can slide in and out of the bore slightly as the flex plate flexes, which it does while the engine is running. Any burrs or roughness on the snout or bore after this must be removed before reassembling. The converter has to slide in and out of the bore smoothly.

11:07 torque converter engaged, check the trans fluid , is the fluid clean as it was when you put it in, does it smell burnt? When it engaged it brought down the idle which means there was a load. Check your engine oil very closely as well, looking for sparkles , like someone else said thrust bearing, if it's bad you will have lateral movement of the crankshaft, glitter in the oil and excessive crankshaft endplay are the indicators.

can you get one of those flexible cameras to look at the flex plate where it attaches to the crank

Thee FLEXPLATE is balanced so it shouldn't be that flexible to grab the torque converter.

For starters even though this video is a year old. You need to relocate that gas filter... Sitting on that valve cover is NOT a good thing... Up in smoke if it melts on that hot cover.. 🔥🚒....
Looks like a S-10... I have one all race for sale...
