    The reason EMR operates stations that it doesn't serve is down to history.
    When rail was privatised and the station operation divvied out to the different TOCs, it was agreed that Virgin CrossCountry (as it was then) wouldn't manage any stations, because they were generally the minor player at the stations they called at. But then when Central Trains was split up with East Midlands Trains being created and some long-distance routes moving into the XCountry franchise, that gave XCountry a handful of stations where it was the _only_ operator. But rather than having to set up a whole station management team and systems for a trivial number of stations, which would have cost of a lot of money, it was decided that EMT would take over all the ex-Central stations that fell within its general geographical area, even if XC were the only TOC to serve them.

    4:34 Fun fact: Even though Liverpool - Norwich is their longest route and has headcodes starting with 1, it is still considered a "regional" route and run using class 158 units

      @stanley3647 Před 10 měsíci

      But if You look at painting - they always was in "intercity" colour scheme (white instead blue - for regional)

      I assume u've travelled this route but if you havn't, they are literally the most disgusting trains I have ever been on. Everything is sticky, they seem to have never been cleaned, the chairs are black with dirt and sweat. Idk how it's not considered a health hazard lol. I've spoke to people who have used them regularly and apparently they have been the same for years now. Idk how they let it get as bad as it is considering it is such a busy route that alot of people have to use.

    some of the trains to and from St Pancras are now marketed as "Luton Airport Express" with single fares for under 4 quid ... to make up for the outrageously expensive connection from the Parkway station to the Airport !

    • @paulburton9386
      @paulburton9386 Před rokem +1

      I wish the EMR fast trains still stopped at Luton Airport Parkway when the travel South from Leicester.

  • @contrapunctusmammalia3993

    Just to be incredibly pendantic, EMR have storage facilities in Cricklewood for 222s and 360s. The 360s are apparently serviced at Bedford but they also are stored at sidings in Kettering. The carriage sidings in Norwich are also used for overnight storage

    East Midlands Railway might as well retain some of the Class 222 Meridians to be used on some of the services including Sheffield, Leeds, York and Scarborough. And to use them on Norwich-Nottingham/Liverpool Lime Street. With the Class 810 Bi-mode trains to enter service from next year.

  • @quintuscrinis8032

    Great video, never realised the HSTs had been replaced by a 222 cascade and 360s taking over the Corby service. Something sbout thay feels a bit unfair.
    Though not as unfair as the Liverpool-Norwich service still using sprinters!!

      @@oldtechnobodycaresabout they are great trains for regional 2 hour or so services with medium traffic levels but desperately inadequate for a 5 hour intercity service like Liverpool-Norwich.

      I've seen photos of 170s on the Liverpool - Norwich service, sometimes, so it looks like they run it with whatever they happen to have available

      @andrewreynolds4949 oh that's an improvement I guess. Shows how long it is since I really knew what was going on out there.
      Still should be a proper intercity unit though really?

    • @andrewreynolds4949
      @andrewreynolds4949 Před rokem +1

      @@quintuscrinis8032 I know there's some restrictions on what sort of units can run on some routes in the Anglia area (not sure which ones); that's the given reason that CrossCountry use 170s out that direction rather than Voyagers. I think EMR also run into the same issue. All of that is heavily discussed online, my knowledge on the whole thing is tertiary

    Earlier this year I got a direct train from Leicester to Wellingborough, which came in from Syston, before reversing out of the station can heading through Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough. The train heading north lead me to believe I was on the wrong train and I noticed that this route is not on any of the timetabled routes... how odd.

    0:38 - Big omission to not have DERBY on that map. It's one of their principal stations! Also, Class 222s are not a sub-division of "Voyagers". The term Voyager is simply an operating brand dating back to Virgin Cross Country. In the same that "Meridian" is for the Class 222s.

    Does EMR still operate a once daily service, which is an extension of the Sheffield service from London, to Leeds? Also, when it was EMT, there was a once daily extension of the London-Sheffield service, which ran to Scarborough via Doncaster and York.

    • @bobsteryt

    EMR needs have a better serice and new destintions like LNER which recently start running to Middlesborough and soon Cleethorpes.
    A London - Nottingham - Mansfield - Worksop. A fast Skegness - Nottingham- Crewe-Manchester Airport/Chester. The Norwich - Liverpool upgraded to a semi intercity class 222's, just to name a few.

    EMR - East Midlands Railway 🚃 has been in the business 👨‍💼 had replaced EMT - East Midlands Trains 🚊 over 4 previous years ago in August 2019. Now it’s the year 2023. It’s called EMR - East Midlands Railway 🚃 because the trains 🚆 run 🏃‍♂️ between east Anglia and the northwest to England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 via the East Midlands. Good 👍 train 🚊 company. 👍

    Thanks to DofT and EMR I lost my daily intercity service to/from London to be down graded to the ex anglia emu's.
    The journey is now slower and much more uncomfortable. The price of progress ..... not.

      Fr it’s a huge downgrade… Not only are the connect services much slower, but they’re less comfortable and more prone to overcrowding with the 2+3 seating + the 360s are even older than the meridians and there’s no charging on board
