  • @Fatcatscooter.com reviews the brand new Kymco Xtown. Walk around, test ride and comments... not a photo slide show! This is one of the first 2018 X-Towns on the US West Cost and Chandler Powersports was nice enough to let us have a look around.

    I've been interested in this scooter for a while now. It has all the right features at a great price. I finally went to my local dealership recently and checked one out. There is no way I could ever be comfortable riding it, and I'm only 5'8". Just once I'd like to ride a scooter that doesn't perch me on the front edge of the seat with the handlebars way too close unless I lean backwards. Stepped seats are the worst thing that ever happened to 2-wheelers. I'm actually more comfortable on the little Like 150, because I can slide back a bit on the seat.

      Yes, that's true on a lot of the Taiwan scooters. The VP of my Scooter Club actually has a Burgman...and as big as they are, he actually took his bike to the Corbin Seat Factory in California last week to have a custom seat fitted (they actually use a form much like they do for indy car drivers). And he made sure there was NO back support. That's the length he had to go too, to get a seat that fit right. One of the down sides to scooters.... however, scoots like the Buddy from Genuine come with a huge flat seat so plenty of leg room... who knew. What are ya gonna do LOL!

      @@fatcatscooter2584 I also test rode a Yamaha S Max scooter recently, same story. On paper it's got everything, but I got about a mile down the road and turned around. I could never ride it, it's so cramped. If I could have sat 3-4" further back, maybe I could live with it. The salesman tried to convince me I'd "get used to it". For $3700 for a 155cc scooter I shouldn't have to "get used to" being cramped and uncomfortable. What's really annoying is that the seats on most of these bikes are plenty long but they devote 2/3rds of the length to the passenger (I never carry a passenger) and confine the rider to the front 1/3rd. When I am elected Global Chief Of Scooter Design, everything will be different LOL!

    I rode a Honda Ruckus for a few years (which I loved) and then sold it when I when I moved to a city that wasn't very scooter friendly. I've been living in a house in the country for a couple of years now and have been dying to hop back on a scooter. Although I will be riding it alone most of the time, I wanted a scooter that could accomadate an adult passenger from time to time as well. So...I bought a used Honda Silverwing on impulse, and oops! Way too big for me. lol. Anyway, after doing extensive research on which bike would *actually* be most appropriate for my needs and budget, I chose the Kymco Xtown 300i ABS, and I couldn't be more excited. I pulled the trigger on it today, and I can't wait to ride it.

    Does anyone know the top speed of this bike ?
    I've had a

      I did not go all out on the highway, but I'd say true speed 80-82 if no wind / flat road. Just my opinion.

    great bike but why not bring the downtown 350 ABS to this market???
    it is everywhere in Europe and a sweet machine for the money..

  • @bubbaoreilly7519
    @bubbaoreilly7519 Před 6 lety +6

    Kymco keeps making great scooters with strange names. X-Town, the replacement for the Downtown, is supposed to be said "Cross Town," while the XCiting is supposed to be said "Exciting." The only difference being the hyphen. Sort of like Moto-X is supposed to be "Motocross."

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před 6 lety +2

      I know the local dealer here has a great Kymco Rep but does tell them they need to do more advertising and social media. I'd guess it's because USA is still a much smaller scooter market and these decisions are made elsewhere??

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před 6 lety +2

      And regarding names... yes, Someone in marketing needs to be talked to LOL. I'm guessing it's the Product team in Asia is making the decision on names. They should check with me next time :-)

    Does this scooter have vibes in the rev range. I am considering this or the Honda Forza which has no vibes anywhere. Both are same price from Dealer OTD costs, except the Honda is a 2015 with 4200 miles.

      Hi cbr9927. As I recall it was smooth at all speeds. I owned a Kymco Downtown 300 hundred, and thought this was even a little smoother. I've never ridden the Forza, plan to soon but I've only heard nice thing about that bike as well.

    • @calgary2800
      @calgary2800 Před 6 lety +1

      Fat Cat Scooter I bought the Forza. The Honda resale value over a Kymco was the main factor.

    How do I tighten the mirrors on the x-town 300

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před rokem

      If they are like the vespa, most of them are... 3 adjustable wrenches.... hold one, the other one (the actual mirror), turn counter clockwise. SLOWLY . Get to the position you want and tighten the opposite direction. Do a little google search for any kymco mirror adjustment and should find it.

    Nice review. Is the headlight LED? Also: is the cramped riding position any better than the Downtown 300i? The Downtown 300i was notorious for being terribly cramped for even riders of modest height. You're a good one to ask since you have ridden both. Thank you!

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před 6 lety +2

      Yodaismycopilot I can't remember but think the headlight is a bulb with LEDs as running lights around it, but not 100%. And I had owned a Downtown before and same problem with cramped you mentioned (but think lots of scooters have that issue). That said this is actually slightly more room for sure (but not a lot). They did make the running board at a better angle to stretch you legs but still not great.This is better for leg room, smoother ride. ..but both are good scoots.

    What is your take on what the dealer told me that not to leave the motorcycle I told at a steady speed to take it up and down constantly what’s your take on that because it worries me I’m riding a scooter not a lawnmower . Lol 😆 please let me know what is your take on it.

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před 4 lety

      Sorry, just saw this... not sure I'm following you but I think they are talking about the 500 mile break in period. That is 100% correct , but read your manual... speed of the scooter needs some variation to run in the new motor. Doing this will make the motor last a much longer time.... and be sure to get your first oil change done on time.

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi, not sure if I follow your comment but on this Kymco the fuel fill is not located in the trunk (as it is on many vespas). It's between your feet and below the handlebars, so a Full Truck should be no issue to refill. Thanks!
