  • Here we show how to replace a rug doctor pump. This is applicable for to all Rug doctor might pro, X3, and wide track.
    Here we have a Rug doctor Machine which has a symptom of no spray. The machine turns and the motor runs. Suction appears to function. However, the machine does not spray. There are two things that commonly cause this. The first which is very easy fix is that inside this water reservoir container there is a metal screen that goes over the water intake.
    The most common reason these do not spray is that the pump has failed. This is pretty normal. There's some other electrical issues up in the handle with switches that can cause that as well. But that is pretty rare and it is also a royal pain to fix. So we're going to do a pump replacement on this right now because that's the most likely issue if you have not spray.
    Parts Required: Rug Doctor Pump - P4XXA, 12158, 12139

    3/8" to 5/8" hose clamps:

    There are a couple different part numbers these pumps are known under including p4xxa, 12158, 12139. There is a theoretical difference in wattage and pressure between the different part numbers. I have not been able to perceive an actual difference in spray volume or velocity between the 50 and 60 watt pumps spray however so I've never really cared which one I use.

      Your comments mean a lot to us! It's honestly a lot of work to create these videos and the people who put in the most work are not the ones in front of the camera. It takes me maybe a half hour in front of the camera to pop out a video like this. Our media lead spends hours and hours cutting and splicing it together (mostly removing me swearing). Our inventory team worked hard sourcing the pumps from a reputable supplier. Our technicians spent even more hours QA'ing each pump prior to sending it back to inventory to package and ship out to you! Finally our front end fields calls and orders for them. It really is a team effort here and your comments mean a lot!

    Those are called OETIKER clips, and they are largely used for BEVERAGE systems. Possible Correction: Where you point and state "this is one of the pumps that has the diode inside the pump, that may be a klixon sensor it is a thermal fuse that will open if the pump gets too hot.

    I have a rug doctor that trips the circuit breaker after it has run for about 15-20 min. I let it cool off, reset it after 10 min or so and then it runs again for another 15-20 min until circuit breaker trips again. Do you have any ideas? It’s a personal use machine. Don’t use it often. I am thinking that the vacuum motor may be pulling to many amps.
    Thank you.

    I wonder if you could help me I’ve an older rug doctor it’s about 30 years old I’ve got a problem that when in hand tool mode the pump is constantly running even though main switch for vacuum and pump is turned off, I’m in the UK I’ve tried to get a wiring diagram for it but can only find the USA and Canada one, I’ve contacted RugDoctor UK and they refuse to provide me with one when it works like it’s new out of the box except for that issue.
    If you can help me it’s greatly appreciated

    The pump is like a shaker siphon hose. There's a 1 way valve that is in a piston inside the coil - aka pump. The water stays trapped in this and the piston freezes from rust and corrosion. You can disassemble this, making note of what goes where and this piston can be pushed out, cleaned up with fine steel wool and so can the barrel inside. You can reassemble it and reconnect everything. I just did this and I found getting axel out of the way and get at everything. There is a Y/T Video of fixing a pump. No need to spend $90-$110 on a new pump!

    This looks relatively simple. Been thinking about buying a Rug Doctor Pro but I was concerned the repair of these was purposely complicated to generate repair profits. Am I wrong?

    • @vacuumsrus
      @vacuumsrus  Před 7 měsíci

      There are no "repair profits". Service and repair is break even at best for service centers and more often is a loss leader. The question is if a manufacturer even sells repair parts and components and offers documentation. Shark for example does not sell service components whatsoever nor does it issue schematics. Traditionally Rug Doctor did partner with service centers to facilitate repair which allowed for availability of parts and documentation. That has changed recently with newer models but we may see that change back again when they are inevitably acquired by another company.

    I have the old model smelt burning smell and it quit spraying were can I find pump motor

    • @joshyouwa
      @joshyouwa Před 9 měsíci

      If there is a burning smell there are likely issues other than the pump. I've never seen a pump smell when it goes. Often the pump cracks and the leak takes the brush motor out however. In that case you would need both a brush motor and a pump which gets rather pricey.

    My machine trips the breaker as soon as I hit the red button on the handle. It does this in multiple outlets and has done it at another home. Any ideas as to why this is happening? The red reset button ON THE PLUG feels like it's spring loaded. When I press it down it pops right back up. The white test button moves a little, but not much.

    • @vacuumsrus
      @vacuumsrus  Před rokem

      What commonly causes this is the pump has sprung a leak resulting in water getting in to the brush bar motor. This causes the breaker to trip instantly since obviously water in an electric motor will cause a short. This typically turns out to be a repair that is not worth doing since both pump and brush motor need replacement. Generally when we open the base of machines with this symptom it is pretty obvious what the issue is since the water damage is clearly visible.

      @doobielawson702 Před rokem

      @@vacuumsrus a friend and I opened it up. The lid to the brush motor has come apart. The portion of the lid that contains one of the screws broke off. It doesn't appear there's any water damage. We confirmed the water pump will come on and now the breaker doesn't trip. I think we could fix this.

    • @vacuumsrus
      @vacuumsrus  Před 5 měsíci

      If the red button engages and disengages the brush motor without any problems then this is likely crossed wires and is very dangerous. If the brush does not engage with the red button then the most likely issue is the button. Although crossed wires is still not ruled out.
