  • Mike Abrashoff is at the center of one of the most remarkable modern day stories of organizational transformation. At the age of 36, the Navy selected Mike to become Commander of USS Benfold. At the time he was the most junior commanding officer in the Pacific Fleet - on a ship that was plagued by low morale, high turnover and abysmal performance evaluations. Few thought that the ship could improve - yet 12 months later the ship was ranked #1 in performance - using the same crew. People were amazed and the lesson was clear - leadership matters and culture is everything.

Good morning , I was on the uss benfold , our ship was recommissioned in pascugula mississippi in 1996. I was 24 years old. I lost my dad in February of 1996, I also went awol too Captain and I didn't know how to communicate with you back then, and I'm sorry about that. When I got to San Diego where we were stationed, I was very emotional about losing my dad. I don't want you to be sad. Your face was the last face I seen before I got discharged out of the navy in 96. You gave me the choice to stay or leave, I chose to leave 💔. We've past this😊. Since then though I was making a living working and went to college ,didn't get my degree though. I kept moving forward where I worked for taco bell company and moved up to assistant manager, from 2006 - 2015. I'm great at it. My dd 214 does say Doris L. Long but I signed it Doris Louise Long ll. Being named after my mother. I would love to visit our ship again. That's what I missed. Thank you for reading and listening. Have a great day. God bless you. ❤️

Oh yeah, I joined the proud veterans of the navy on fb. I was very proud to serve when I did. I do have my uss benfold hat. I want to honor us better. They are a few shipmates I would like for you to be careful around. Tammy Allgood-resindiz ,Singletary and Brown. I think they were pretending to be me. I'm very cautious about now. I did my basic training at great lakes, illinois. I was in company 351 and 373.

I do have time to communicate with you, I got married to Danny Kemp who also was in the navy, he was stationed in norfolk,va. and is also why I went awol 2 times,I was with him. I did not inform you that I was married at the time. It was after you put on 45 day restriction when I returned to the ship. I didn't know what was happening. But since then ,like I said before I kept moving forward in my life. I've recently got divorced. I'm 49 now. My mother was Doris J. Long- Parker. My nickname is Punkin. Things you never knew about me. I wanted to retire from the navy ,that was one of my dreams. Since that didn't happen, I made up for it by becoming successful in the fast food business, I found compassion in that. My former boss and now friend Lee Sockwell coached and trained me. We worked for Grisham fast foods Taco bell. It was a great experience for me that I enjoyed. I'm blessed and I want to continue to do great things in my life. I go to church, not as often as I should, but I do go. It's very good to see you after all these years. I do hope everything is well with you and your family. And again have an awesome day.🙂
