- This 100-year-old Lanz HP Bulldog was one of the stars at the historic tractor show in the Swiss village of Schötz 2023. Nicknamed "Peter", this 1923 Lanz Bulldog type HP hot bulb has one cylinder, a top speed of 7 km/h and is "an omnivore": It can run on waste oil, on diesel and even on cooking oil. It is said, that this first center-pivot Lanz hot bulb consumes 1.5 liters of fuel per hour. Only 723 of them were produced worldwide. The price? While the price is not talked about, the value of such a tractor is clear: it is almost priceless.

Gebaut für die Ewigkeit - 100-jährig und noch immer fit und munter. Ob man das von der heutigen Technik einmal sagen wird ist zu bezweifeln... 😉

1915 Heer tractor is said to be the first articulated steer 4 wheel drive tractor. Until now I have never seen one of these Lanz. Very nice!

Some of the first Lanzes can rotate less than one rpm when going very slow, back and forth back and forth.
Schöner Bulldog. Schade ist nur wenn jemand auf einem Treffen seinen Bulldog mit dem Gasbrenner anheizt. Weil es schnell gehen soll. Das kann man zu Hause machen. Auf einem Treffen gehört die Heizlampe zum Bulldog! Natürlich muss man damit auch umgehen können 😊
Einer findet sich immer.

ich frage mich die ganze Zeit, wie man das Ding in früheren Zeiten angeheizt hatte? Einfach ein Feuer anstelle des Gas-Brenners? Für wie lange musste man das vorheizen?
Benzinglühlampen gibt es länger,hat man es so konstruiert,gab es eine Lösung,keiner würde das Ding bauen ,und 50 Jahre auf eine Lösung warten.😡

what is the purpose of heating before starting the engine?
It is only the pre-heating that allows the hot bulb engine to start. Unlike gasoline and diesel engines, combustion in a hot bulb engine takes place in a separate chamber referred to as the hot bulb. Essentially, the hot bulb extends horizontally off the front of the engine.
A fuel nozzle drips fuel into the hot bulb. The fuel would hit the metal plate, vaporize, mix with air and ignite. A narrow passage connected the bulb and the cylinder. The expanding gases would shoot down the small passage and move the piston in the cylinder.
Petrol engines use electricity to fire a spark plug and rotate the crankshaft to get the engine going. Hot bulb engines do not have this luxury. On a mild day, the bulb must be heated for anywhere from two to five minutes and quite a bit longer on cold days and for larger engines.

Das ist ein heftig derber Traktor. Eine Stunde vorheizen und dann ja nicht abstellen, weil sonst......Da lobe ich mir die alten Steyr Traktoren. Ein paar Mal gekurbelt und gelaufen ist er.
Es ist natürlich auch so, dass Steyer laut der eigenen Webseite erst am 29. September 1947 den ersten Steyr Traktor - einen Steyr 180 - ausliefert. Da liegen doch fast 25 dazwischen. Es ist aber auch Fakt, dass Lanz auch nach dem Krieg an den Glühkopfmotoren festhielt und die Konkurrenz auf die sparsameren und leichter zu bedienenden Viertakt-Diesel-Motoren setzte. Dadurch verlor Lanz immer mehr Marktanteile.
@@hu3raum Mag sein, aber die anderen haben noch nach 1947 solche Traktoren gebaut. Und, es gab auch früher schon Traktoren zum Ankurbeln, und das mit Glühstiften.

No, I don't think the tractor has a clutch. It also does not have a reverse gear.
To go backwards, the engine speed must be lowered until just before it stops. Then accelerate at the right moment to make the engine turn backwards.

Is it a stream engine or sterling engine?
It is a hot-bulb engine which is a type of internal combustion engine in which fuel ignites by coming in contact with a red-hot metal surface inside a bulb. A blow lamp or a blow torch is used to create this "red-hot metal surface" inside the hot bulb located in the lower front of the tractor so that the tractor can subsequently be started. The first few minutes of this video shows you the procedure.

It is actually referred to as a semi diesel engine, the engine uses a hot bulb similar to a glow plug but is kept red hot by the combustion of the fuel. They were also designed to run on diesel oil not diesel fuel which is a lower grade and injection pressure is alot less than a standard diesel engine Landini tractors made in italy were very similar as well as the old macdonald imperial engines made in Australia.
