I think conclusion is clear, Dreame X40 is better performer slightly and also mop usage is better in dreame, it needed few passes in the video to clean the mess. On time level both are slow compared to you doing it with a tradional vacumm and mop, infact much slower

one thing to mention is that the cleaning solution mix is not put into the robot on Dreame, but IT IS on roborock. Dreame just uses the detergent for washing the mop on the dock

Thank you, that was a great video on exactly the comparison I wanted to see.
I find it interesting that both robots have issues with their side brushes and it’s not just you, other reviewers have commented on both issues. For the Roborock it’s how inconsistent it seems to be about extending its side brush when running along edges. For the Dreame it’s the fact that it turns it off completely on carpet. Luckily both should be fixable via a firmware update.
For the Dreame I heard that it doesn’t spin the side brush on carpets because the designers were worried about it getting tangled if the pile is high but in my opinion that’s a ridiculous blanket decision because in your home for instance neither of the carpets would have had any chance whatsoever of tangling up the side brush and based on at least one other review it makes quite a big difference. Apparently there is some setting to get the Dreame to use its side brush on carpets (something like “ignore carpet” I think that other reviewer said) so he was able to do a weighed pickup test with and without side brush active and it took pickup on carpet from something like 95.5% to about 99%. I’m not sure what other consequences there might be of enabling that ignore-carpet setting (if that really is what it’s called) so I hope Dreame will introduce a setting to explicitly set whether the side brush is used on carpet on a per-room and per-area basis.
On the basis of everything I’ve seen so far I think I’m going to go with the Dreame but I’m waiting for the version with the fully plumbed in dock to be released before making my purchase. By that time I hope the side-brush-on-carpet issue might be resolved as well.

I bugged Dreame about it and made a ticket and they said their tech team is working on a firmware update as we speak that will fix it with the carpet... it works great when I set it to 'ignore' and clean just my carpeted rooms but kinda annoying I have to do that. Gotta make sure you switch it back otherwise it'll try to mop your carpets

Seems like Dreame doing more on amazon now, Im happy about that and can get the discount. For my mom and her place im thinking about what would be good for her.
Not sure with her new place if she would want 2 of them depending on the number of levels and what version make sense for each floor level.
Like if one is manly carpet and high traffic then dyson might be the better bet. Now for me im in an apartment with hard wood, carpet & tile in bathrooms. I keep going back to the Dreame X40 but keep looking at the dyson and its good its being updated and now an option. For me its manly dust and random things like skin air little bit of crumbs. Find my self vacuuming 1-2 time a week and moping around 1 time a week. And still feel like need more. Having air purifiers helps with some dust in air and drywall dust that still cracking years later.

I feel like you can't go wrong either way. It really boils down to features that can be improved with firmware updates and your belief in which will make those updates first based on early customer complaints. They both can handle homes like a champ hardware wise so you won't go "wrong" with going one direction or another!

I just bought the dream x40. Thanks for the videos. I only have 1 room of carpet on my main level, everything else is hardwood. The roomba j9+ is junk. And I bought 2 of them in November due to having a new baby and no time for house chores. The roomba would take 9 hrs to do 1800 sq ft so I bought 2 and they cut the time to 2 hours. But it seems if I let it go 4-5 days on its schedule without cleaning it, they both stop refilling water and don’t mop. The mop job isn’t even that great, couple dried coffee drips? Won’t get it off linoleum. So since 95% of my main floor is hardwood, I need that superb mopping. Also, I got it for $1750 direct from dreame, no tax no shipping fees. $1750 to my house… which actually makes it cheaper than the roborock.

  • @d0pstar
    @d0pstar Před 2 měsíci +10

In EU region the price seem to be the other way around. Dreame X40 is 100$ cheaper then the S8 MaxV Ultra. Parts availability is about the same. No problem getting parts for either of them. Dreame products seems to go on sale more often and earlier then Roborock. Also seen a few reports that the hot water temperature coming from the dock might differ a few degress between the products even though they are the same on the spec sheet. Maybe a thing you could test. Also it's interesting to see how much air flow or suction power they can generate, if the 10k Pa vs 12k makes any difference in the real world. But this might be hard to test without a proper setup.
Dreame is more confident with the extend features but Roborock seems to be more thorough in open areas. Looking to buy one if these in the next few weeks. I'd probably go with the Dreame X40.

Hey, how often does that filter get full and need replacing? The filter in the j9+ is super tiny and is completely clogged like every 3 days. It’s ridiculous, and they want like $25 for 3 of them. I blow them out with a compressor once or twice before replacement but still, twice a month on both units chucking these filters, expensive! I hope the dream is a lot more maintenance friendly. I would like to only go thru the vacuum once every two weeks (filling water/ cleaning brushes, replacing filters ect). Could you let me know if that’s the case with the Dreame? Thank you

Great review as always my friend. One additional reason to go with the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is that it currently at the time of writing this comes with a 5 year warranty.
To me this is a huge selling point to go with the S8 MaxV Ultra. Currently the arm extension isn’t as good on the S8 as it is on the X40 and I also like that the X40 raises it’s flexible arm and the Roborock doesn’t but I would still go with the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra.

Outstanding job!! I really appreciated your thorough and unvarnished assessments, and that you buy them with your own money, really great, thank you!!
I currently have a Dreame L10S and have been pleased with it, but am considering an upgrade to one of these when they go on sale. (I will def use your link when I do. 😁). I am a wheelchair user and have a lot of floor space to clean, (and 2 dogs!) so it’s worth the investment to me. I want it to do “everything” so I don’t have to ask anyone for help. There are 4 data points I’m interested in comparing that I think you missed:
-Mop tray cleaning. A problem I have with my current Dreame is that it washes the mop pads but not the tray, and the tray gets really dirty fast. Unfortunately the tray is not removeable (the upper part is but not the tray) so I have to ask someone to get on their hands and knees and scrub it for me every week. :(. I will look for either a feature in a new robot that cleans the tray automatically or a fully removable tray.
-Plumbing. I am very interested in getting it plumbed so that I don’t have to refill the clean water tank or dump the wastewater. Availability of plumbing kits and ease of integration?
-Upgrade program. I have seen somewhere that there may be programs where you can “trade up” for discounts?
-Hot water. I think both have but didn’t see it mentioned, may have missed. Any thoughts?
A side note wrt my experience with Dreame support. I have had very positive experiences with Dreame’s customer service-prompt, professional, thorough, no communication barriers, and no “hold” times. And I had a problem and sent it in for free repairs with no issues. I agree parts are not as readily available ( although I can get consumables through Amazon subscribe and save now) but some parts I had to go through alibaba to get.
Thanks again! I subscribed to your channel. 😁

@@MichaelWalker-wu2pq Thank you! So I will have to move the whole base to another level. Then when it maps the second level it will allow me to mark the map Level 1 and level 2?

@@roblechot4201 I don't know the specific terminology they use for Dreame but it should be similar to Roborock where the robot spins around and recognizes the level it's on and cleans based on the map for that level.

I think you forgot to mention an important difference - the x40 has a kit (sold separately) for connecting to water and drain, while the s8 has completely different version for it, so it’s not flexible as the x40 in that case

Nothing I've seen to justify the price and make me switch from the S7 MaxV Ultra.

Agree with your assessment. They went backwards the the s8 pro ultra and now with the s8 maxv basically have a modified s7 MAXv with a few additions, with dual roller being questionable of whether it’s better. The s8 maxv has the same AI as the s7 maxv. Really wish they would start recognizing low profile furniture like Dreame can with their camera.

@@Firebat-agreed. I got the s8 pro ultra and was really disappointed. Have been waiting for the firmware to improve it but not holding my breath. I just can’t justify spending another $1700 on another vacuum after

Robotock is.. because more people buy it because they want something different than any other brand. People all companies copy each other, ive noticed that for years. I'm going to go into it, people pick what they believe.

Xiaomi vs Xiaomi 😂 Roborock is veteran one so no surprise it won

People paying nearly $2,000 for these things only promotes further price increases from these unethical companies.
