IMO the X5 is the perfect sweet spot in this class, between sport and luxury. Bought one myself, 4 years later still couldn’t be happier.
Agreed, good value compared to MB and Porsche too. Hell even a fully loaded Q7 is 85k now.
@@WestCoastPCbuilder yeah that’s just not true
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/6337648002
@@WestCoastPCbuilder ....and here we go again with the uneducated people who have never even owned a BMW yet know “so much” about their reliability. BMW ranked 8th best in 2020 for reliability out of all brands, beating Honda and Acura. Go look it up for yourself if you want. The X5 ranks better in terms of reliability than the Q7, Q8, Levante, MDX, QX60, etc. Anything else
@@jakes5530 thanks lol
@@mattX5 mdx?😂
I bought one three weeks ago. Had a Jag F Pace and this is night and day better in almost every way. People say they are expensive and I feel they are worth it IMO.
I just picked up myself a used 2020 X5 xDrive 40i. My daughter and I just took a road trip down the coast and back and boy do I love that BMW 😎
Parents just bought one - it’s incredible. Crazy how expensive german midsize luxury suvs have gotten in recent years though. I remember when they were comparable to an Acura MDX or Lexus Rx in price.
Agreed, but the Germans (X5, Cayenne, GLE, Q7, etc) are so much more advanced and so much better than the MDX and RX that it’s actually reasonable.
To be fair the options on the RDX/RX have really stagnated over the last 10 years or so. With the new RDX design, Acura said there would be a significant base price increase to coincide with the higher quality materials and better features.
Funny that US guys think the X5 is midsize :)
@@dimmacommunication It is though lol. Thought my X5 was pretty big until I drove an X7.

Great review! Absolutely stunning car, love it. Greetings from Germany
Patiently waiting for you to drive the 3 series :)
Nice to see that the car pictured when changing the drive modes is the same as the one you're driving, it's the small things that make the biggest differences.
Exactly, I was surprised it’s even the same color!
Best review thanks man
Having been a BMW owner for a number of years the adjusting period on a G05 X5 wouldn't take long!
It's expensive, but I would get it. Beautiful SUV, a competitive segment; that color is awesome.
Love your color mix
The pops on the shifts tho👌
really enjoyed hearing the pricing up front and seeing the window sticker was a nice touch!
Window sticker made me nauseous. $9,550 for various Driving Assistants, enhanced USB and Bluetooth, heated and cooled cupholders, remote engine start etc is the epitome of shameless profit making. My god it's INSANE 😅
@@rootsmanuva82 BMW is famous for not including a single thing as standard. It's really slimy. I wish they would also give you "discounts" the more options you added. They just rape you in added costs. They must be filthy rich
THE X5!! GREAT!
@@bradleyscarreviews Why do you feel the need to say that? The GV80 can't compete with this. So unnecessary and just flat out dumb. You've never even driven a GV80, why do you feel the need to troll? I really like this generation X5

I'd like to get your take on the X5 45e model of 2021 if it's possible. That e-hybrid model would be a compelling option in my book. I just spec'ed one out on-line and it came to $74K with all the options I care for.
Our X6 40i doesnt sound like that with OPF. I love the upshift sounds!
Just ordered my 2021 last week to replace my Audi S4 as a daily. Mine is fully loaded except for the $1700 package that has traffic jam assistive driving stuff, and it's 78k before destination. They removed some options for 2021 that you were previously able to get in the 2020 you're reviewing here - so just be aware that if you order one new right now, it won't be 83k because you can't get as many options. For example they removed acoustic glass, and they removed heated/cooled cupholders for 2021. Auto start stop button is now removed as well, but it can be overridden by Sport mode, or if you like to customize steering, etc. you can do Sport Individual and it will still turn off the ASS system. Then code the car to always start in sport mode.
Please do a video about the new 540i 2020.
Im waiting for topher to say let’s check out this Harmon kardon sound system and hear … it was all a dream.. I used to read word up magazine…
Great review as always. I get the whole "Gotta pay to play" but it just seems that some of that $83k price tag is simply BMW tax. Same thing applies to Apple products. While it's built well, feels great on the road and capable the price does jump way up from the Japanese competitors. It may be a better performing machine but is it $35k better especially when the Acura MDX Type S will soon be coming out?
Gorgeous car! Love these x5 models. Thanks for the video! Love how american's think 23-28mpg is economical, in the UK I'm getting 50-80mpg in my 520d.
Gallon size is different
I like the review of the entry model in this series. (I wouldn't want to be a passenger in your demo though... haha.)
Could you review a 2021 E Class?
Really like all your videos! How's the X5's cargo behind the 2nd row compare to your GX 460?
Pretty good but the x7 would probably be a little more comparable to the bigger Lexus vehicles.
I feel like these motors are so underrated! Mid 13s at like 103 mph in the quarter with “330ish” HP in a heavy suv?! That’s crazy! Feel like it’s sneaky fast; faster than it feels.
It's 100% underrated... 335 is closer to wheel horsepower than at the crank. This is well proven.
@@dailyrant4068 seems like it’s all too common with other European cars like Porsche too. Pretty cool.
I saw some of your reviews ,I think you should include fuel consumption
Impressive SUV for sure, and it’s easy to see why they move tons of these things. I’m happy they exercised some restraint in terms of styling (at least relative to the X7), but it’s also nice to see they’ve evolved the interior design a bit. While I appreciate the overall athletic bent of the X5 relative to some of the competition, the tech is starting to strike me as overboard and excessively complicated. I doubt I’d use half the features of that infotainment system tbh. I’d probably be more drawn to something like the GV80 in this segment personally, but it’s hard to go wrong with an X5.
I got the 2022 one
Can’t wait for your gv80 comparison. We’ve been waiting for the gv80 for years. But it’s been delayed several times so we ended up buying the x5 a year ago. I was hoping the gv80 was cheaper - I was surprised when the fully loaded gv80 is $70k+. The similarly equipped x5 is only several thousands more. I’m just disappointed the x5 HK audio isn’t better as it was a $875 extra.
That was our conclusion too. I think the X5 is well worth the extra few grand!

crazy good fuel economy
Thanks for the review which is always enjoyable. This may be a dumb question but how does this stack up to the driving experience from the Mazda CX9? I enjoy driving the Mazda but really want a panoramic sunroof and a V6.
I own a 2022 Mazda CX9. I rented a BMW x5 and sice decided my next car will be an X5. Night and day difference.
I dislike how BMW mixes different options and trims available on their models. There is also a couple of options they deleted and are no longer available at all across the board e.g. the night vision camera.
On the M50i, you can't get ventilated seats anymore. You also can't get remote start. Whereas these things are available on the 40i. Additionally, a third row option is only available in the inline 6 model and not on the M50i and X5M.
etc etc etc
It makes for a confusing shopping experience. And forces you to make some tough decisions. Do you want a powerful engine in the way of the v8? Or do you prefer a more livable inline 6? But what if you want a v8 AND some of the options I mentioned?
For my money, I'll take the 40i with the executive package + 3rd row seating, and just get a vivid racing stage 1 tune.
That should bring the power up closer to the M50i without going bonkers with the full on X5M.
And I'll get features not available upstream.
Kinda seems backwards doesn't it?
U r rite
I seen already like 8 videos like this can I ask are you like professional car tester. That u have different cars every month. I didn’t want to sounded like bad thing just wanted to know
I most like the bmw x5 and x7
Just sold my 1999 M3 and bought a new X5 s40i. Got tired of feeling every little bump in the road. Miss the std shift, power and handling of the M3 but the X5 is so nice to drive. Now that BMW has adaptive suspension in its M3/M4s, I might take another look later.
Still looking for one 2019 so far but it's still expensive about 40k up
POV Review of the X5 sDrive30is w/ZHP Package please. It's the enthusiast spec with RWD, an upgraded 3.0L N53 inline-6 with 302 hp, 6-speed manual, M-technic cloth seats and M suspension and brakes. Wait... BMW doesn't make it. Never mind.
The heel-clicking is funny.

It gets VERY dim with polarized sunglasses but you can just barely still see it

How much better does the 5 series drive compared to the equivalent x5?
This question is interesting. I own 535i F10 and would like to have a SUV. But I don't won't lose the comfort of 5-series.
Good looking car, just not what I’m interested in. Haven’t had much good experiences with BMW, X5 in particular. Settled with an XC90, offered a little more on what we’re looking for, especially with tech and reliability. I do see the appeal of this car though.
We have the x5 but also looked at the xc90. I don’t understand how they’re both the same length but the xc90 manages to provide so much more interior space - especially behind the 1st row.
@@Wasabi9111 XC90 is actually just about 0.6 inches longer than an X5. I’m not sure either though. I think it’s because the XC90 is slightly wider, and way taller than an X5. Both are definitely good cars, one of the main reasons we chose an XC90 though is because of the space. Rear 3rd row space in the XC90 is definitely WAY bigger than the X5.
So reclining back seats is actually a option…

Literally the complete opposite, you can’t say that anymore with the new generation coming in. The complete lineup is almost unique to its own thing, X1/X2 look completely different, X3/4 same thing , X5 and X6 different. X7 and X8 are completely different. The grills are getting bigger and different and shapes are crazier. You can’t mistake an X7 for an X5 or 7 and 5 series look completely unique. $1,700 for Traffic Jam Assistant, Active Driving Assistant (totally useless software), $5,600 for remote engine start, soft close doors, enhanced USB and Bluetooth etc. Total cost for a bunch of useless lines software code that will be obsolete in a few years is $9,550. Anyone dumb enough to drop $10 grand (plus interest) on stuff you can totally live without deserves to pay for it lol.
Most luxury car buyers lease their cars short term.
Didn't know soft close doors was just software...
BMW is actually updating the driver's assistance very often. Since this review, automatic stopping at traffic lights and automatically taking exits has been added. While it's technically only available on 2021 vehicles, you can easily code it on yourself or pay someone to do it

The motor is awesome. Best driving SUV. However, it’s quite noisy, the dash is unchanged and confining. The back seats can’t adjust makes BMW behind in design. If I want sport I’ll drive a sedan.
