woodturning a square platter made of padouk, linden and oak

- I made a square platter on my lathe from padouk, linden and oak.
I first sawed the padouk block in half and sawn both halves diagonally, then I glued the linden slats onto the padauk triangles.
When the glue had hardened, I sawed the triangles off at right angles and then glued them to the oak centerpiece.
When the glue has hardened, I mount a faceplate to the wood and attach it to the lathe and start turning the bottom of the platter.
Once I have turned the bottom and provided a recess, I sand it and apply a few coats of sealer.
I then reverse mount the platter with the recess on the chuck and hollow it out.
When I turned and sanded the bowl and gave it a layer of sealer, I noticed that the linden and oak had turned a reddish color due to the padouk sanding dust.
So the next time I sanded, I only sanded the linden and oak and gave it a layer of sealer. After the sealer had hardened, I sanded the padauk and applied it with sealer, and I applied three layers of sealer in this way.
And for the finishing touches, I sanded to 600 grit and finished the platter with friction polish.
The platter has a size of 34 centimeters square and 6 centimeters high. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Thank you Rav, well I still have some projects in progress, but I'm already thinking about future projects (if I can find the time to make them)
@@hbwoodturning17 I have the same issue - lack of time...or I'm getting older, slower, powerless, eh🤷 but still producing new items 💪
I hate square platters and bowls, EXCEPT this one. It’s simple and beautifully designed. Very nice!
Hello, I'm glad you like it, I make square platters because I waste less wood to make something round from a square piece
@@hbwoodturning17 understandable. It’s just my crooked eyes aesthetic.
You were right, this one is spectacular ! Well done Hans ! Take care my friend. -Mike
Thank you, Mike, I'm glad you like it, it was still quite a job to saw and glue everything, but I'm happy with the result

Dank je wel Marja nee, het gaat niet altijd als gepland, maar dan probeer ik er toch wat van te maken en ik ben blij dat je het leuk vindt.
