The pacemaker was actually invented in Canada by John Hopps in 1949 but not very practical for use in humans until a decade later. In 1950 it was a boxy item with wires inserted via a catheter to the heart capable of both defibrillating and pacing the heart rhythm. Sweden developed the first "implantable' battery run pacemaker.
The presenter missed one hugely important thing about the seat belt, Volvo made the patent free for everyone to use. They decided that the invention was so significant, it had more value as a free life saving tool than something to profit from.
And I know Natasha was probably joking when she said we didn't know that but lots of people in Europe knew it was introduced (and made patent-free) by Volvo. Probably a lot of USA's car nuts - what we call petrolhead - knew it too.

It was the same with the pacemaker, they didn't patent it. Extremely noble.
The same goes for Ericsson's blue tooth (not patented)

Every list I've seen of Swedish inventions misses a really important one, the "rollator". It's basically what americans know as a "walker" but with wheels. A Swedish woman named Aina Wifalk suffered from polio so she built herself a rollator to get around easier. Today it has given my 80 year old father his freedom back. It's much better for old people to keep active, and this gives them the support they need while they can still walk around, instead of remaining seated in a scooter.
I never understood why walkers in America don’t have wheels. Seems insanely cheap out version

My 85 year old mother got one, at first mostly because she'd gotten a bit worried about the icy pavements in the winter, and for it being practical when bringing home grocery etc. Then she "managed" ("I don't need one of these..". Similar to "I don't need any hearing aid." Lol) to get my same aged dad to get such a vehichle as well. Whithout it I doubt he would get out of their appartment as much as he actually does now. And if one gets tired (like my dad qjuickly does these days), you can rest on it as well due to its clever construction.
A truly great invention which you see everywhere here in Sweden.
All these impressive inventions gets even more impressive considering how small country with few people Sweden has relative to the rest of the world. Im proud to come from this country.

Fun fact, Anders Celsius did put the boilingpoint at 0 and freezing point at 100. It was Linnaeus that recommended him to turn the scale so 0 was freeze and boilng 100

The graphics chip for computers and the gps was invented by a Swede (Håkan Lans), The propeller for large ships was invented by a Swede (John Ericsson), The sferical ballbearing was invented by a Swede (Sven Wingquist), The dynamite was invented by a Swede (Alfred Nobel) and many many more wonderful things :)
And don't forget about the mouse (also invented by by Håkan Lans), Bluetooth by Ericsson. So lot and lots of invention here from Sweden
He didn't invent GPS. But he uses satellite navigation (GPS) and radio communication to increase safety so that craft do not collide. The system is called STDMA, which stands for "self-organizing time division multiple access". In 2004 it was adopted as the world standard in aviation.

The small device developed to connect eletronics are named after vikingking Harald "The Bluetooth" Gormson and the Bluetooth symbol are a combination from two runes in his initials ᚼ("H") och ᛒ("B").

Sweden actually ranks above the US in global innovation. This according to the global innovation index. It’s 2nd behind Switzerland, US is third.

Here's an invention you won't hear about on any CZcams video. My great grandfather Douglas Andrew Billany (1865 - 1918) was half English and half Swedish and born here in England. He invented _Stocks and Dies_ which was patented in 1902. It cuts threads on iron rods etc. In other words, it turns iron rods into screws, bolts etc. His second eldest son, Walter Billany (1891 - 1968) took the patent to the USA when he emigrated in 1915 and the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan was the first to use it. My great uncle Walter became an American citizen in 1922 and originally worked for Ford and his descendants still live in the USA inc. Juliette Van Otteren who is a renowned photographer whose name appears in the Who's Who of American women. She's a blue eyed blonde like her Swedish ancestors.
So there's another connection between Sweden 🇸🇪, the UK 🇬🇧 and the USA. 🇺🇲

As others have mentioned, Swedish-American (one of the many Swedes who emigrated to America in the 1800s) John Ericsson invented the propeller. He aldo constructed the USS Monitor, famous from the civil war.
Fun Volvo fact. When American Irv Gordon in 1966 picked up his brand new Volvo P1800 at the dealership he fell in love with it so completely that he just couldn't stop driving it. When he passed away in 2018 he had driven it 3.2 million miles, and obliterated all sorts of car mileage records. There is no stopping a Volvo!
I've always loved the fact that the particular Volvo model with this well known record in fact was the P1800, the most beautiful Volvo model ever created.
As a convenient segue from the Coca-Cola bottle, did you know that the modern image of Santa Claus (rose-y cheeks, big ol' belly, wears all-red and full of jolly) was imagined by Haddon Sundblom, an American artist with Swedish and Finnish parents? He drew him specifically to promote Coca-Cola for Christmas season when he was working for Coca-Cola in 1931.
As a swede I thank you for your admiration of our small but adventurous country. Yes. We have been pretty good at inventing really really useful things. Well not me personally of course but videos like this lets us burst out in national pride once in a while. Well needed since we can be a bit in the introvert side 😁. May I also add that despite our mere 10 million strong population we are the worlds 3rd biggest music export after the US, 360 million and the UK, 55 million strong populations and have more hits on the US pop top 50 of all time than any other country counting artists and song writers/producers. 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Great video :) There is a musical called "Kristina Från Duvemåla" about a couple who emigrate from Sweden to America during the 1700 or 1800s, due to the poverty and such in Sweden during this time. I especially recommend reacting to the songs "Du måste finnas" by Helen Sjöholm, and "Guldet blev till Sand" by Peter Jöback. There should be versions with English subtitles on youtube, there are also English versions of these songs but I can't remember their names.

I am a proud Swede, I know all of this inventions and I really enjoy your reactions, because in Sweden we have; "The Jante-lagen" and it means that you can not brag about something you have done really well. It will perhaps make other people angry with you, it`s better to hold a low profile and let people figure it out themselves that you have make an amazing invention. That`s why nobody knows it comes from Sweden. By the way, I really like your videos. You two are so loveable, make me smile and feel proud of myself and my country!
Two other Swedish inventors who I think fit very well among the others are Carl Linnæus and Johan (John) Ericsson.
Linnæus was the author of the "Systema Naturæ", the system of description and classification of plants and animals that is still used today.
You have probably heard of Johan Ericsson, but didn't know that he was was a Swedish naval captain and engineer. He is usually considered the inventor of the first working propeller. He was also the man behind the gunboat Monitor with its rotating cannon tower which fought the Confederates Merrimack in the battle of Hampton Roads during the Civil War 💀🫣.
Most of us do use his "noble name" Carl von Linné instead of Carl/Carolus Linnaeus. 😊

You did mention dynamite in the beginning of the video and yes dynamite was invented by Alfred Nobel. Later he found out how much people hated him for it when his brother died and people had thought that Alfred had died. After reading the news about his death he decided to donate his money to what now is The Nobel Price.

Not only did Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) donate enough, that after his death the Nobel Prize was created as described in his will, but he had another 335 patents during his lifetime.

Btw: VOLVO came out of another company called SKF in my hometown. They invented self aligning ball baerings. 🇸🇪
The two engineers that started Volvo were employees at SKF. As a parting gift from SKF they were given the rights to the name Volvo which was the name of one of the ball bearing products that SKF made but had discontinued.
The ball baerings by SKF really should be on all these Swedish inventions lists, such an important item that's been used everywhere since.
The safety matches is an invention that many people associate with Sweden. In Italian matches are most commonly called "fiammiferi", but an other word used is "svedesi" meaning Swedish (things).

His uncomfort, even shame, knowing that many of his inventions were used for war, lead to him creating the Nobel Prize, including the Peace Prize awarded by a norwegian committee.

Another invention of big importance was the " kakelugn ", ceramic tile stove around 1750. It saved the swedish forests from going up the chimney. It could store the heat very efficiently. Later the AGA was another similar idea

Fun facts. The Bronx district in New York was developed by a Swedish immigrant named Jonas Bronck. Bronck=Bronx. And the American Indian motorcycle company was founded by Swedish Oscar Hedström. And there are so many more things developed and invented by Swedes.

Not sure if you want to learn more about the Swedish military, but if so I would recommend the 'Jägare' series, about the Swedish Rangers. In 16 episodes you will follow a group of conscripts from their very first day until they graduate. A really good series. One thing though, try to reach out to the community to see if someone can translate at least the 5- 6 first episode, since they lack subtitles. (And I am sure that you will find someone)

The Blowtorch, invented/patented in 1882 by Carl Richard Nyberg. Later, the company was bought by his business partner Max Sievert (who was also best friend to LM Ericsson) and is now simply called Sievert.

@@TheNatashaDebbieShow Swish has essentially eliminated the practice of splitting the bill at Swedish restaurants. Nowadays one person usually pays the whole bill, and then the others swish that person their individual share of the bill.
Honorable mention: STDMA, improved radar and collision avoidance system for boats and airplanes. It basically eliminated airplane mid-air collisions after it was made a world standard in 2004.
I actually live in that small town where the cocacola design is from and now that glasmelltery is a museum :)

As someone working for a medical company that spawned out of a older company that revolutionized diabetes treatment, yes Sweden also is responsible for creating the dialysis machine that is used to treat end stage diabetes patients.
"is used to treat end stage diabetes patients"?. You mean to treat kidney failure (which some Diabetics, like me got). But it's a none 'end stage' of life, and a lot of other people also get kidney failures.
I have done dialysis for 1.5 year now and expect to get a new kidney before the summer. So please explain your later example in more details. But didn't know it was a a Swedish invention ;)

But that is what I know not something that is available yet.
Sadly not very many patients that has end stage diabetes (no working kidneys) have the opportunity to actually get a donated one.
And even for those who get it, the case of kidney failure of the donated one is not zero.
So for most patients being connected to a dialysis machine until the end of their life is the sad reality for many.
The great thing about the three point seat belt is that Volvo allowed the design to be used by all car manufacturers.
And Sweden also invented the mobile phone, and dialysis machine and the Monkey wrench and the mouse you use with your computer ... The list goes on 😉

Ultrasound diagnostics was pioneered in Glasgow, Scotland because it was used in the shipyards. Ian Donald, Tom Brown, and John McVicar collaborated with Lund Uni. I know because I catalogued the archive with another John (don't know his second name) who hand made the first units. He went to Sweden a lot.
Pretty fun that such a small country as Sweden has impacted the world in such a large scale as it has.. ALSO we should not forget how much Swedish immigrants has done for the US, such as the Greyhound-buses, Walgreens, Nordstrom, Swanson etc

About (one of the) ultrasound technology pioneers:
As I have been told, engineering genius Hellmuth Hertz was in an American war prisoner camp after ww2, but weren't allowed to stay in the US for political reasons. Niels Bohr (friends with Hellmuth's father, Gustav, Nobel laureate 1925) and some Swedish physicists snatched him up and were able to make sure that he could continue his education in Lund, Sweden, were he later became professor in electrical measurement technology.
He was also involved in pioneering the inkjet printing technology

There was an American artist of Swedish and Finnish descent, Haddon Sundblom, which created the images of Santa Claus for The Coca-Cola Company. Sundblom is best remembered for his advertising work, specifically the Santa Claus advertisement. It was he who drew Santa Claus in a red suit during the twenties when he painted for The Coca-Cola Company, starting in 1931.Sundblom's Claus firmly established the larger-than-life, grandfatherly Claus as a key figure in American Christmas imagery.
Another interesting fact about the seatbelt; volvo did not patent it, just because they felt it was of so great importance, they felt every one should be able to copy it and use in their cars for free. Only volvo..

Fahrenheit is also the last name of the inventor. Actually all four temperature scales, Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin , and Rankine are named after their inventors' last names
One thing you did miss: The AGA lighthouse was invented by the Swedish inventor Gustaf Dalén in the early 1900s. Gustaf Dalén was known for his technical innovations and the AGA lighthouse, an automatic lighthouse, was one of his significant inventions. The AGA lighthouse was introduced to the market and quickly became a world leader in maritime marking and improved maritime safety.
The supercharger for engines is a Swedish invention by Alf Lysholm. was patented in Sweden in 1935.

Håkan Lanz didn't invent GPS. But he uses satellite navigation (GPS) and radio communication to increase safety so that craft do not collide. The system is called STDMA, which stands for "self-organizing time division multiple access". In 2004 it was adopted as the world standard in aviation.

As a Swede I did of course knew about the SEAT belt. What they forgot to mention in the video was that the inventor and Volvo did an open patent for the seat belt so that any car manufacturer cpuld use it wothout cost. Since it save lives Volvo thought that it would be free.
Dont forget that Turbine invented by Alfa Laval. The propeller and loads of other vital things.

A small note on Skype… as some may know, Microsoft for a while had 2 products called Skype and Skype for business. Contrary to the name they both were totally different products with different underpinnings. When Teams came out and saved everyone during the pandemic they scrapped Skype for business that was formerly known as Lync before Microsoft bought it and replaced the modern underpinnings with Skype technology! So Microsoft Teams is now built on the same Skype platform as today’s consumer Skype, with added corporate controls of course. But the base for todays Teams is original Skype 😊
