    ...and comfort!

+10 for comfort! I went out in my new kilt for the first time today and O.M.G! I wish I had done this sooner! Sadly, my kilt isn't one of yours but I see some in my future. I ordered this one for hiking and backpacking. It's made of ripstop nylon and is a utility kilt which I think is going to be perfect for the purpose intended. I definitely see the need for something with a bit more weight for wearing around town. I could not believe the freedom of movement and sheer comfort. I took it for a three mile walk with my dog carrying about a 48 lb 65 liter pack. One thing I had been concerned about was the side hip buckles and the pack's hip belt as that goes right over the top. Turned out not to be an issue at all, at least for this kilt.
Has anyone ever calculated the calorie efficiency of wearing a kilt vs. pants for hiking? I think that might be worth an extra mile on a 10 mile hike!
One other aspect of comfort I noticed is, shall we say delicately, the lack of pressure on 'the package'. That alone is reason enough wear a kilt! I'm 63, 6',175 lbs and still have a few things to figure out (belt/sporran/ccw) but I'm a convert!
So, a question... I live in Las Vegas where it gets to 110 or more in the summer. Winters can be cold (OK, not by your standards... we're all wearing parkas when it dips under 50 degrees) so I see wool as a great option in the winter and fall. During the hot season, I'm not sure about even the lightweight wool for outdoors wear. How is PV vs. wool for comparative weight (I think the tailoring term is 'hand') and comfort, durability, wrinkling, etc?

Lightweight wool in the summer is great, I live in Central Texas and we get the same heat but with stupid humidity added. The wool has a better hand and a better feel on the body, it stays cleaner longer (seems to anyway), and doesn't get stinky. I use my PV for light dirty work around the house, and when I want to look a little better.
The kilts are like a level up clothing system, I use my utility kilts mostly for everyday and dirty work, the PV I use for everyday light work and maybe to wear to an archery tournament or a car show outdoors; when I want to dress "up" a bit (but could still get into some work), and the light wool I use for out on the town.
Comfort, hand and durability I like the wool over the PV, although the PV actually weighs less; the PV definitely needs more maintenance, more washing and more ironing.

When you wear them strangers walk up to you and want to talk to you or ask you questions about them. I always wear one on cruises and always have a ton of people walk up to me and either want their picture with the guy in the kilt or want to know about the kilt. If you are shy and don't like attention don't wear one because you will get lots of attention.
