- Are World War One Kilts the same as modern kilts?
The history of the kilt in the Great War is fascinating and complicated. Mac fills us in on some of the interesting and strange ways kilts used by the British army and Canadian forces were built and why.
Did Scots wear kilts in WW1?

I'm a member of the Living History Volunteer Corps at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, MO. I portray a 1st Lieutenant 42nd Black Watch. My best reference book was "Those Bloody Kilts". An indispensable work on all things WW1 and kilts. Also check out "Flowers of the Forest", a great work on Scotland in the Great War!
Also at the National WW I Museum at the Liberty memorial Kansas city Missouri there is kilt on display with a patch pocket This according to the museum was added to the kilt by the soldier. Like all soldiers have modified their equipment and kit to meet their needs.
i still have my grandfathers kilt from ww2
Thank you. I am so tired of the person who is adamant that kilts are/were produced in whatever manner and anything else is wrong. Afterall the earliest were hand pleated the alone produces variation.
Thanks
Braces Highland reg. had braces on the kilt
CZcams is messing with you guys did not receive a notification to your news video if I wasn't surfing CZcams I wouldn't have found the latest video of yours
My Canadian RAF kilt has no straps. Buttons. I have no idea how to wear it.
Palette and size of the sett
I'm planning a trip there this summer.
Didn't the military kilts during WWI use less fabric too? 4 yards vs. 8 yards? I think officers also got more than enlisted as well.
Welcome to the world of reenacting!!.. were even the most documented and researched kit can be scrutinized, criticized and picked apart !!... usually by some one on a REAL power trip!!!
Of course there would have been variations.... it was called wartime expediency!
Soldiers also had to buy their own kilts
Kelts comes from Austria , salzburg to be extact
That sounds like typical military logistics to me.

Interesting, and surprising to me that the military contractors aren't required to adhere to strict specific dictates. Normally the military makes a fetish out of conformity and universal conventions when it comes to uniforms. That's what makes them "uniform."
Still Vikings kicked ass
