You can clean up the old handle scales by sanding. I think Felix Immler has a video about it on CZcams.

got my Recruit back from repair 2 days ago and they replaced everything on it and sent me back the old parts. It would have been cheaper to just send me a new knife and not have to do the labor on this one. It looks like a new knife except for the old style keyring holder and the no half stop on the caplifter/screwdriver . It was worth it and it only took a little over 3 weeks from the time I shipped it and to get it back repaired. The Recruit I sent in was a trashed old economy Recruit that was free and the new one is like a new one almost. I won't keep it because 84mm stuff does nothing for me but it was nice to get a fresh knife from Victorinox for $5

Victorinox is definitely one of, if not the, best knife manufacturers in the world. I say this in spite of, or maybe because of, their conservative business practices. As much as I would like to see some modern steel blade materials, I admire their commitment to quality rather than chasing trends.

I carry the alox 93mm's almost exclusively and the no back tools is one of the many reasons why. I also have a compact I carried for close to a decade I think, or so it seems to me idk for sure without really thinking back on it. Maybe I'll send it off. I've repolished and resharpened the blade down to like half the size, the scissors have been used and abused too. It's got 3d printed scales I made on it too after I broke one. I'd have to look into the process being in america though. Probably take a bit longer than 3 months from here.

Good warranty, I've found over the years victorinox are taking less time on the knives sent in, but they are also less likely to do anything much to very old models! Possibly lack of parts? Labour costs, etc?
If you want a warranty to beat all others, try Leatherman!

Victorinox usually return the old parts they have replaced with the refurbished knife.

Took about 12 weeks, not bad from Switzerland

in the U.S. the turnaround is usually less than a month. I sent in a old Economy Recruit on June 15th and they sent me a email yesterday July 5th that it was fixed and mailed. Not sure if they are sending a new one or just repairing the old one. They charge $5 in the U.S. for the service. They usually just send you a new knife and the old one back and if it is a retired model they will give you a choice of a bunch of different models to choose from

I would like to send my Waiter to Victorinox AG. I am in the UK and it is an economy 80s/90s model. It is sentimental to me and would like to go through the same process as you have done. Please can you tell me how i can do this?
