Welcome comrades, it is time we finally play the NEW Soviet Union in HOI4 No Step Back!
There's gonna be a lot of purging, a lot of tanks and Stalin leading Russia "flawlessly"!
No I was not forced to say that and no I will not blink three times cause I'm being held hostage.
Stalin is the leader of the Soviet Union and he knows best for Russia!
NO STEP BACK, COMRADES! WE WILL PREVAIL!
After playing Germany in the new Hearts of Iron 4 DLC, No Step Back, Tommy has decided to try out the new Soviet Union which has a completely new focus tree.
It was about time honestly, Paradox took their sweet time on reworking the Soviet tree and honestly, it was worth the wait!
Yes I know it's a spoiler, but the new Russia focus tree is really good!
It's gonna be fun to experience all the alternative paths such as Romanovs in the Russian Empire and Trotsky leading the World Revolution.
But that's for another video, for now we are gonna be experiencing what happens when you play Stalin in Hearts of Iron 4!
Like all of Soviets, even the Stalin aka the Center has been reworked so the Great Purge and a lot of Stalin stuff is a lot different now.
We will have to deal with Stalin's Paranoia and him "retiring" some of our best generals.
Honestly, he might go a bit too far in this one, he's gone a little crazy.
Tommy has honestly gone a bit too crazy recently too, it's like he's roleplaying Stalin in HOI4.
But yes, it seems like Soviet Union is definitely balanced in No Step Back.
It's definitely not broken and OP with some of these focuses and decisions it has, especially not Stalin Russia!
The New Soviet Union is honestly looking really strong but we will have to wait and see how it performs in HOI4 Multiplayer.
Both Germany and Russia are pretty strong right now and it will be fun to watch the Eastern Front during HOI4 MP games.
Nonetheless, Tommy will try to come up with the new Soviet Union meta in Hearts of Iron 4 No Step Back in this video.
Don't forget that this is part of the 100% HOI4 Series where Tommy gets all HOI4 achievements so this will be a guide to a lot of the Soviet Union achievements!
Tommy is gonna lose his mind during these achievement runs and it's gonna be like it's 2020 all over again.

Markian Popov is the best Soviet general to grind, he never gets purged and he has brilliant strategist, infantry officer and winter expert. Level 1 also means it’s ez grind. First game as Stalin I had him as infantry genius level 9 field marshal, adaptable, log wiz, agg assaulter. Pls fellow brothers use mr popov

I found that using your mountaineers at the Japan border conflict almost always wins you the battle, you could potentially try this in a future game!
Having your light tanks also does it if you consolidate and have a modest amount of factories on the lights

i do mountains with acs for at and i have a light arm recon with paratroopers...i dont use them to land but the out of supply bonuses help the tanks too

@@arthillidan1905 There's a mod called Propaganda campaign mod, wich is exactly the same wich you see in the game, only difference I would say, is that the mod makes propaganda campaigns available for every country, not just the soviet union. If you compare the two they look exactly the same. The propaganda papers are the same aswell, but I guess that's because of historical accuracy and that they are actual propaganda papers from back then. Why would you pay for something that you can get for free? Also Paradox doesn't give any credit to the actual mod developer.

An easy nerf paradox can do for Air Supply and transport planes is to make resupplying based on the type of equipment. So infantry equipment gets normal resupplying while heavy tanks take more time to resupply and reinforce the division
From experience I can confirm that resupplying 12 heavy tanks takes about 50 supply planes, so they are a lot more expensive already. It still makes supply planes OP early game tho.
I've been trying to play historical Russia with Historical AI and it's pain, hopefully this video will help me have an idea of the order of focuses I should go
I did a couple of runs with Trotsky and it seems alright to go civil war asp, then do all 5 year plan and land focuses, then get a fortification construction bonus, build 10 lvl forts all along the border, construct some railway guns and just sit there a year, building civs, then build mils til 1943 and attack the weakened Germany, who's grinded themselves on you.
@@ik2254 i think germans wont attack you if u build forts...at least in my game i had like 5-7 forts in poland and they refused to attack so i pushed a little and they started grinding on my line finally because 3 tiles on my frontline didnt have forts anymore so they thought yes we can push them xd
Thats kind of a cheese. Dont build forts ( is it better in winning? Yes but you wont enjoy it as much). Let Germany attack you, they are buffed af and they ll probably push you back to Moscow ( at least they did to me while before the update i rarely even lost a province). But you have tons of decisions for propaganda and operations, plus partisans. Its way more fun that way

I was trying to get the achievement where u cant lose any of your core provinces (forgot the name) but it got ruined when uk declared war on my puppet iraq (year was 1944?) cuz i also went for soviet onion achievement at least got that one in the end...
i dont understand how am i supposed to win germany, because by 1941 the UK gets captured by Italy and looses all the colonies to germany, along with france.
When I fight germany, they have an insane amount of resources and factories. Even if i send elite super equipped volunteers to every conflict and win there + take Japan in a couple of month, get all the baltic states and finland, get all the middle east, i still loose to the germany. I think that 1939 campaign is broken and there is no way to win in vanilla as USSR, the only way is communist revolution in Germany and Italy.

Tommy, you like amphibious tanks right. Build a heavy tank and put a amphibious drive on them. Add support flame tankd and engineers to get rid of all negativ modifiers.

Railway guns don't directly do anything, they just provide a bonus to battles in their range. Since they are not stackable, you can either not use them or use them. You cannot use them "more"
@Сергей Владимирович Таборицкий No, railway units cannot fight, they simply give a +15% modifier to all nearby battles. If you have multiple railway guns nearby, you still get only +15%. It does not matter whether you have a singel railway gun or 2000.

I played Estonia on this dlc it's very good can conquer all of the baltic
I always try to greed for the Latvian and Lithuanian focus that gives them ressources and civs, not annexing them until they do them. It never ends well.
A small tip: If you go for Stalin's centrism right off the bat (at least it happened like that in my case), you won't end up with growing paranoia and you won't get random general executions. Either that or I got my game bugged.

Hey, Tommy! Some history info from a fellow russian. The guy, Genrich Yagoda (which you have from the start) had established the gulags but was sentenced to death by stalin cuz of other guy indications. Btw his surname "Yagoda" means "berry" in Russian. So it's kinda funny in some way

btw they actually did write in the patchnote that now, on ahistorical countries will actually take alternate paths so you avoid 1. 9 countries out of 10 just doing their normal focuses anyway and 2. countries going into their paths so late that they flip ideology by 1942. Also it looks like it has been tweaked a bit in terms of choices, because in the four games i played so far germany always went with the kaiser.

Actually every meta tank can be countered with antitank guns + rail gun. Finnaly there is actual reason to put them not as supply unit and make some various divisions in army instead of spamming same 20 7+2

I like to build heavy tanks with 4km speed and just putting one of them on each of my infantry divisions to give them all a little bit of hardness and armour. It buffs the infantry greatly if you dont have the industry for armour divisions.
if you don't have the industry for armored divisions, how do you have the industry to put tanks in all your infantry?
@@0witw047 you only need one heavy tank battalion in each division to get the bonus, that's only 40 tanks per division. What you do is put a few factories on tank pproduction then instead of modifying your infantry division you copy it and slap the tank battalion on top. That way you can gradually shift your infantry to the New template overtime rather than leaving everyone under supplied
IMO Russia shouldn’t do 14-4 40w because of marshes, you should do 12-5 for 39w, marshes are 78w and they are very prevalent in Russia, also you will have lots of 20w pure inf to back you up and give some org and defence

I am sure they are gonna change the transport planes, they are just broken now because nobody used them and they forgot to make them balanced, it's like the numbers are way off (simple fix, lower the supply capacity of planes) and they didn't say anything in the game trailer or guides.
in the beta they provide .2 rather than 1.2 supply
In MP the one that stop Russia is Japan, Take Support Kodoha and start making Mountaineer and marine to naval invade. Early aggression would bust Soviet.
I love it. It's so satisfying to do a red flood of Europe as nobody is able to stop you. I think with this update it's actually faster for a Soviet world conquest than a German one. As the USSR I had puppeted or annexed everyone in 1948, whiles as Germany I had finished off South America in the '50s.

I actually like the new meta of encouraging more planes and transport planes in one light. It might mean that people will be more likely to use anti-air guns in their divisions.
It would be a lot more interesting if airfields are needed to do air supply.

Hey Markoni I don't know if that happened before, but I heard plastic love in the background. Hope Tommy is careful with some of the Japanese music. I think Japanese labels might be the most notorious for taking down videos if there music is on there. Hope that won't influence videos in the future. They even made take down requests for covers before that uses their own voice and instruments lol
