i so love v.a.t.s when there is 95% chance and i can miss 5 shots in a row
yep, I can snipe a ghoul/scorched at 30-40% halfway across the golf course/airport but the super mutant on the trailer roof at westtek starting at 95% takes 5-6 shots with concentrated fire perk maxed. I have even waited a couple minutes after fast travelling, entered vats/exited vats, switched weapons/switch back, rotated to head/arm/torso, and still dumping multiple shots into nothing. Annoying, would complain about the loss of ammo but I have over 200K ultracite plasma cartridges stashed.

Took me a year to hold the crit button instead of pressing it over and over. Coarse I was a heavy most of the time early on.

I literally got to level 250 on a crit bloody commando build before I realized I could hold the button down and I felt literally so stupid 😂😂😂

You can also use Aim (right mouse button on PC) to exit VATS.
For those on console who want to jump and crit, swap your A/X buttons from Activate to Jump.
I found it to be an easier transition than trying other buttons.
So swap A and Y on Xbox or swap X and ∆ on PS.

Only issues with this is it’s the same button as exiting your power armor so only really works outside or PA.
Do you know whether it’s possible to connect a keyboard for additional buttons?
if you reeeeeally dont want to use another button for jumping (and you have a program for your mouse/keyboard) , set jump to another button, then go into the program and swap the jump and crit button
It wasn’t until I got a quad RR that I learned to hold down the crit button.
switch left ctrl (pressed with your hand jst below the little finger) to jump and left alt to crouch (since this is toggled) then u can do this without weighting down your spacebar since your thumb will be free, and it wont mess your muscle memory of the WASD hand placement by adding left alt as a button you press alot.
Hey there! I think I recall you complaining about this before and maybe I commented then, but ahhh... I never had this problem since launch because I always bind my jump key to "A". I shift all my movement keys one to the right because it just feels so much better. The "F" key has a nub on it so it's easy to find your "center", and it puts the movement keys more in the middle of everything (particularly when you use a split keyboard). So my pinky sits right over "A" making it super easy to jump/etc.

Another great video. I really like videos explaining the mechanics of the game. Sometimes I assume a thing is happening by the name and then find out, that it is actually different to what I thought 😋 I did this slightly differently using mouse. Changed jump key as well. Then I remapped a spare Logitech G502 mouse button (closest to thumb) to also be Space Bar. Keyboard and mouse share the Space Bar. Holding the mouse button down, with thumb, has become very natural for crits over the years.
This is awesome. I remember looking all over for a way to change VATs key. This is almost as good. It does change a lot of other menu options but that can be adjusted to. I am not sure why I didn't think of this.
This was a similar trick I did in nuclear winter. I changed my jump button to LB, so that I could jump and aim without taking my right thumb off right stick.
I never even thought to remap Jump...I've played for too long, I'm not changing it now. I'd be a fumbling mess trying to play 😂
I just learned last week that we can move our 3rd person camera out! I felt really dumb... So don't worry, we're all still learning!

Idk if this was said or not but a critical also always hits so if your V.A.T.S.ing a target faraway and have like a 2% hot chance if you critical you’ll make the shot.
Sweet video Turtle! The last tip is awesome but I wasn’t aware that higher Range affected VATS accuracy. On the scorecard, sometimes it improved other stats that I wanted and didn’t list accuracy improvement, so I went with short. Still, had to see the whole vid to catch those wisdom gems. Ty!
Haha, I changed my keybinding for jump and grenade toss on ps5 a long time ago. I like being able to jump without taking my thumb off the right analog, makes mobility much easier. Being able to jump while in vats is just a bonus.
omg will try this . also can you switch the buttons you use to change targets instead of body parts ? huge issue as well
Alright ya got me. I remember looking to remap the crit but never thought to remap jump instead.
But are you saying that VATS still drains the fusion cores? The patch notes from one of the last 2-3 updates specifically said that wasn’t supposed to happen anymore?

I actually DID know that.... but the only reason is because I panic press. I love my jetpack, and I'll usually fly away from combat, startled, if something doesn't die fast enough, and I noticed sometimes I'm just fooshing around while trying to shoot behind me as I make a tactical retreat.
I've been playing the game for 4 months. Day 1 I thought it was so stupid that my jump button on Xbox controller was Y. So I changed it. I jump/jet in VATS literally every day! It blew my mind when you brought this up on stream awhile ago. I thought everyone did it 😅
I didn't know, that a crit hit couldn't charge your crit meter, no matter what. Good to know!
For some reason the jump button is set to Y on every fallout game on Xbox. I always change it to A.

I just played the game and it didn't teach you about VATS, you just look at controls that says Q and figure out, I thought it was only for power armour because of the technology, didn't know it applies to the player as well. When I press Q nothing happen, I have to hold it for a while for it to pop out.

The good thing about this is when I will switch to Starfield, the transition will be smooth and natural as I am sure that most of us already mapped jump/jetpack on the L-Alt key.
I remapped my jump button to my bash button (R1 on PS5) years ago, since I rarely bash or throw nades, and use vats and jump much more often than either. Complete game changer for PVE and PVP especially

I had big problems with instinctively hitting Q "space "together to enter vats,
my character would jump // use the jetpack // burn all stamina // fall to their death.
I had the brain wave to remap critical to right mouse, so i could just hold both mouse buttons, couldn't believe its not in the button mappings...
The last one was really a fantastic tip. But not because of autocrit - because of the ability to jump in vats. As you've said, it is a great tactical benefit. If you have marsupial or jetpack you can just jump up and kill enemies over their cover. But jumping with space all the way from the Oblivion getting used to the other key could be hard ... I figured out I can't jump in VATS, but I guessed it's some sort of game mechanics limiting its efficiency and not a keymapping issue.
Thanks for the video, I humbly disagree with what you said about vats accuracy on the weapon card. I have tested the fixer and the handmade from shooting the targets at long distances, they both have the same range however the handmade has more vats accuracy and I am able to connect more of my shots with the handmade. The Liberator I’ve noticed does the opposite. They don’t have a torso. Because of that if you’re targeting the torso targeting a liberator with reset your vats to the head. I figured that out using vats at Mama Dolce’s. 😅

So if I have three luck perk points to spare, would you recommend Critical Savvy over Four Leaf Clover or a combination of both (for a shotgun build in my case)?
Sorry, I think I found the answer: For shotgun, FLC is better, because there‘s a chance to proc for every single pellet.
There needs to be an auto crit toggle you can select. The other thing I don't like with having jump and crit the same is when you jump accidentally and off a platform like in the Test Your Metal event.
If on console, try mapping jump as the right bumper or R1 and use bash/throw grenade as Y / Triangle it’s much less annoying to bash occasionally instead of jumping. Have been doing this for years it’s much nicer and as turtle says you can fly and aim in vats etc.

Now swap the buttons with a program (many available) outside of the game (remapping) and you can stil jump etc. with spacebar 😮
Auto crit is a setting on the PS version, however doesn’t exist anywhere else

For console players, can we tape down the crit button after remapping jump? In my case, it would be triangle on PS5/PS4. And will that mess us up in the game (or if we leave it and forget to take off the tape lol)?
Well it’s also used to pick stuff up and interact with things so…
Basically just accept console players won’t really be able to have an auto crit as it’s impractical to have the triangle button taped down, but do go ahead and remap jump, it’s very comfortable on r1 to jump and bash /grenade as triangle.

It would be nice, if you're in vats, pressing the interact button would let you toggle auto crit or not. Btw turtle I've been wondering, what's the deal with field surgeon? Is it worth using? How does it work? There's very little actual info on it. I found 1 video of someone testing it, but it wasn't good testing like you do. I tried testing it myself, but I'm just not sure.
On console I have jump swapped but crit button is the same as exiting power armor. So I have to tap the button for each crit while in Power Armor. Outside of PA it’s all good.
I wish you could remap crit to left mouse so you auto crit while shooting. But they really just need an auto crit option in the setting.
if u have a quad ffr railway, instead of holding the trigger, trigger it quick and you'll make insane dps while doing crit
This is why you use a Q50c, you get the same dpm but more damage. I main a Q50c15r Railway.

I need to try and learn to use automatic weapons as if they have burst rounds for vats, I feel like sometimes I’m wasting AP or there’s a time lag between shots

I learnt crits on scoreboard 1 and when I had the cards 😁 now my crits are 100% all the time.
What is the armor and mods VATS friendly that we need?
ultra light for armor, aligned for weapons

If you have a keyboard that can have macros or programable keys, you can have space pressed down 24/7 without weights on the keyboard. Much more effective.

I’ve always been able to jump in vats. I didn’t know that you couldn’t jump in it normally. I have my jump button on my a button (XB) and I’ve always been able to jump in vats

I knew I can remap jump to a different key, but never did it as my muscle memory trained by other games still always hits space bar for jump. After playing Fallout 76 for 5+ years changing something like that would be even harder. So I continue to automatically hold down space bar whenever I enter VATS.

I have the same Railway as you do and I have no VATS perks in my Luck and still get a crit every other shot. Better Criticals is nice for beefy enemies tho.
I really wish someone would make a mod that allowed crits to be remappable. (Imagine having it on like m4)

It could be worse. I play left handed (left on the mouse, right on the num block), so the spacebar is reeeeeally out of the way. I can use crits very rarely and I have to stay still otherwise...
I had no idea you couldn't do it. Its weird tbh but I feel like that should 100% be a feature that is taught by the game at some point and not something you've discovered accidently after 5 years. What else is a jetpack for?!

I have 33 luck and with my auto choo choo because I get like 2-3 hits on an enemy with one vats shot, I get critical every time I pull the trigger.

Jump and VAT crit being the same button doesn't bother me. I don't use jump pack. The heinous crime Bethesda did was the E:use button same as getting out of power armor. How many times have you tried to use something and started getting out?

I been using this anti cringe jump thingy but I'm tired because at this point keyboard become piano so playing with crit and jump on same button is still better.
I get 95% when I use my pimped out two shot Guass shotty .

Why is a button even needed for crits in vats
if you dont have to hit the enemy to kill them you dont need vats
So four leaf clover does nothing... I ...I've had it on for months for NOTHING....depressing AF.
It's only useful on shotguns, and even then fast fire rate can shoot faster than the perk triggers. It works on cold Shoulder for example, but you have to slow down your fire rate to get it every other shot. So, it's a great perk only on low luck slow fire rate shotgun builds, but that's a very specific use case.
I've never seen any value Awareness, its just not worth 2 points. If you are new you don't have a wide variety of damage types at your disposal and by the time you do you know what works on what. I would rather the extra points into Concentrated Fire to assure fewer wasted shots and some added bang.
