    I'm amazed at the sound engineers that balance 7 vocal mics with 10 singers, a string quartet, two guitars, bass, marimba, xylophone, two keyboards, a horn section, two percussionists, and accordion, and make it all sound good. REAL HEROES

      I saw Brian Wilson & his band perform it nigh on 20yrs ago, never had this many singers tho & Brian performs it with commensurate ease. He'd be proud of this lot & good vibrations abound.

    It would take a grand total of 17 sessions totaling 90 hours at four different studios for the Beach Boys to complete the recording, using 70 hours of tape, working from April through September.These guys have made a great job of this doing it live in one take.Brilliant.

      There is a difference between compose and perform. Please read your history. Lastly when the original beach boys performed synthesizers weren’t even invented. For example, I don’t see anyone play the chromatic harmonica and where’s the Tannerman?

      If you mean the slight drop-off at the end of the word Egbert...He's probably been told to do that to allow other voices to come through. Both ends of the singing voice spectrum are normally stronger than the others in the middle.

      @egbertsouce3895 Před 7 lety

      No, that's not what I mean. When bass singer in dark shirt comes in at 0:26, he sounds a bit off-key to start, and seems to be bellowing, just a tad. Could be sharper; but he's not overpowering other voices. If you listen closely, you should be able to hear what I mean. They're real good--but I'm tough; and Brian wouldn't let that slide too often !! 8-7-17

    Utterly superb. Listen to them every day. Love to see all the separate parts (vocal and instrumental) blend together. You appreciate even more the complexity of Brian’s music.

      Agreed, and I understand more of the lyrics of the song, having heard this version too! 😉👍

    This was an awesome song when it came out in the Sixties. I didn’t think it was possible to improve it, but these guys did it. And without the Wrecking Crew studio musicians. I am impressed.

    It is a real Theramin. Ours was built by our keyboard player and his brother. It was as thoroughly researched as possible, and is as close to the original, built by Bob Whitsell for Paul Tanner, as they could make it. Working from photos of Paul Tanner with his, and gathering other information from people involved in building the first ones, they tried to duplicate the size and construction of the original. The only thing they couldn't find were the actual components used in the pulley system.

    The degree of difficulty in pulling this off live is... impressive. Remember, the BB's used overdubs and the famed Wrecking Crew backing them up.

    This was so so close to the original. They seemed to have left out a bit of percussion during the song break but they really nailed the SOUND of the original just about note for note.

      I think they are great....a rich sound...as good or better than the original Beach Boys. I've seen the Beach Boys 10 times over the past 50 years and never get tired of them!!!

    • @SuperChuckRaney
      @SuperChuckRaney Před 6 lety +4

      I think there are 2 reason covers don't make it ...
      First one is the cover band doesn't sound enough as the original.
      BUT at same time ....
      Cover band doesn't MAKE the song enough their own.
      So it becomes a yin/yang ...IF the cover isn't a simple mimic of the original ...BETTER recorded as this one is .... so if it's not a mimic of the original, the new song sounds weird.
      AND/OR ..... the cover band isn't unique enough in interpretation to MAKE IT their own completely.
      For instance purposely changing the song into a completely NEW song, so well we don't really notice it's a cover. Think DISTURBED singing Sounds of Silence.
      So it's 2 sides of the same coin .... The Fendertones have REALLY improved the songs but mostly ... to be descriptive not critical ...Their live takes are perfection, where as the Beach Boys used double tracking and post production to grab their "sound".

      Right now, both Brian's band with Al and Matt Jardine, and Mike Love's renditions are both cover bands. They can as the originals do whatever they like.
      This group has done a really good job covering the release recordings though, great to hear them. As of beginning of September 2018 (for future readers), the actual group's are a good arrangement, not just a duplication of these. Looking forward to Mike Love's Beach Boys in San Deigo later this month again.
      Great job by these guys. Love what appears to be a Leslie and of course the trick part, the Theremin here. On the latter, the Brian Wilson group uses a keyboard version, which I suppose would make a stage performance easier. I think this guy is using a free range one, which is way trickier to get right.

      Oona holt: The Fendertones are not a touring group. They have some very talented and artistic members of a loose coalition of somewhat relatives and somewhat childhood friends in the Philly area type of thing as far as I can tell. These recordings go back at least ten years. The Beach Boys in the current iterations and past session musicians on Beach Boys recordings have heard and admired The Fendertones' productions, and some have actually played with them. You can see some of the The Fendertones' sessions on this youtube channel including stuff with Brian Wilson, IIRC. They are wonderful, aren't they?
