      Thank you so much! Yeah, I figured I'd try a different approach this time around lol. Sometimes seeing it all drawn out is the best way to communicate it. 👍

    Excellent topic and very useful. Please clarify - the edit, social, 90day, archive working folders are on your L:/ drive
    Thanks in advance

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks Larry! No, these folders are virtual and live inside of Lightroom or Capture One. Think of them as just little "bookmarks" that help you sort out the projects within the program. The idea, is to have an "at a glance" view of what the status is of any given shoot, at any give time.

    Hey Travis, glad you're back! I'd like to know more about your setup with ViceVersaPro. Maybe you could do a video on that. I am having some difficulties setting it up properly.

      Absolutely.. in fact.. if you send me a DM on Instagram.. I will make a private video for you right now on my setup.. ;-)

    After watching your videos 1-3 I’ve finally built my desktop (hackentosh). I’m following your workflow & backup system but have questions: 1. Video, is it first imported to the “live work drive” then once edited archived to the “video archive drive”? 2. “Back Up drive & “Offsite drive” is the folder structure on these drive’s…Photos, Data, Archive etc and does the sub folders match the folder structure of the drives that are being backed up…example: (photo’s then sub folder wedding) etc?

    Hey Travis, thanks for another great workflow video. I'm a Mac user- do you have anything about the CarbonCopyCloner setup you were using when you were on the Mac?

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey thanks Kevin! I can't remember how in depth I went with my original workflow video (4 years old), but I may have included CCC settings in that video. But, yes its been so long now I can't remember the settings / options. Basically I had it set to always keep all the drives in sync. So, when data was added to one, it was copied over that night. If the data was removed, it was then removed that night etc. CCC was an excellent program.

    Hi Travis, do you delete your raw photographs after a wedding is delivered or do you keep the raw files for ever?

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před rokem +1

      So what I do is I export all of the delivered wedding images of the clients into its own catalog file which will go on a permanent Archive Drive that's a part of my workflow and then I set a reminder for 3 months after everything has been delivered and then all the while files are removed from the main drive after 3 months but the portion of files that are delivered to the client will remain archives forever

    Hi Travis, i appreciate your effort in sharing the workflow, i like it a lot and learn from it, we share the same passion and we understand the importance of getting organized, i would like to know what do you think about the NAS solution, i moved to a QNAP NAS solution recently and i currently enjoy a 24 TB of net storage space RAID 5 which live synchronize all my devices wherever i am even when traveling as son as i am connected to the internet, the same NAS is also backed up through one way live sync to an offsite NAS device.
    based on your experience do you think it works? or you recommend some adjustment.
    Keep up the good Videos, Courage.

      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey! Thanks so much! Always glad to help! Yeah, you have an impressive system there! I dont think I am a good person to ask tho.. lol, I dont have any experience with a NAS, tho I do understand they can be great! I guess it just all depends on you, your feelings on what is "secure enough" , and how much control you want to have. The bottom line.. if you are happy, then I think its great. For me, my little system is more than enough, has excellent automation, and offers the backup security I think makes the most sense for what I do. Its also very cheap. Having everything all inside a simple PC case is also really great. So, this "ticks a lot of boxes". But, I know that wont be a good solution for people who may have different types of data, or want other flexibility options etc. So, I am basically no help LOL. I am sorry man!

  • @adrian-alexandruneculcea206

    Hi! Great tips! I already separate my files into different drives, but I will probably go a step further thanks to you.
    When you where talking about building previews, did you mean ”Standard preview” (Hight quality) or literally ”1:1 previews”? (this applies to lightroom, I don't have capture one.)

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Adrian! Yes, I use 1:1 as the preview option.. but, you can experiment with HQ if you want. The idea behind this, is that it will result in much.. MUCH faster editing, reducing the loading for each image (a big deal for weddings). This of course comes at the cost of a larger project file.. BUT.. this is the beauty of using PhotoMechanic as the first step in this workflow.. it prevents you from importing not needed images into the LR / C1 catalog file.

    Which model RAID are you selling? Thanks.

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety

      I am selling the G-Tech "G-safe". Basically this is a hardware RAID-1 enclosure. All you need is 2 hard drives, and this device will keep them totally in sync at all times. Its a great device, and I have 4 of them. One of them I am keeping for myself (to use as I said in the video) and the other three I am selling to people who want to do the same :-) Let me know!

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety +1

      Its, USB, or Fire-wire, or e-SATA. It has different connection methods. AND.. you dont even need it connected to a computer for cloning a drive!

    Can I be totally honest with you and make a bit of constructive critics about? I follow this channel since long ago and I preferred the old video stile. The two videos about workflow you mentioned were more aesthetical, cinematic, rhythmic and perfectly edited. This now look more like an online photography course. Nothing wrong; quality of content is excellent anyway, but..the physical witheboard for a lesson on CZcams video looks a bit odd. There are more efficient ways to deliver written content and diagrams on a video.
    I'm sure you have one of that Wacom tablets to pair with some video design software and write directly on the screen. It would be more appreciable for the viewers and easy to watch.
    Lastly, I follow bike channels on CZcams and when I seen the thumbnail of your last video with a bike and your new athletic look, for a second I confused it for a video from one of this channels. I feel imbarassed to make suggestions to a pro photographer about what to put in a shot, but in my opinion, bike on the background, helmet or bike water bottle (on the previous video) should go away. Viewer has to focus instantly on the subject of the video: photography! Every extraneous element may mislead him about the content of the video and carry him away from clicking on your video.

    • @travisharrisphotography
      @travisharrisphotography  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I do disagree with the points you have made, I feel that the most important thing is the information and not the "video quality" or making it "cinematic" This is a complicated topic, and a classroom style makes more sense. If you dont agree, you are welcome to seek other channels etc. Remember, no CZcamsr can please everyone :-)

    • @loresign4933
      @loresign4933 Před 4 lety +1

      @@travisharrisphotography whatever the delivery method, I appreciated the content of the video. As a simple photo passionate, my interest about pro workflow was more due to curiosity rather than necessity, so for me the "light" way was enough. I'm sure that professionals, instead, will prefer this new detailed instructional style.

      @@loresign4933 Yes! That's a good summery. Dont get me wrong.. lol, I wish every video could be flashy and cool! lol. But, its just so much work.. and now with COVID-19 and not being able to really go outside and colab. with others.. its just best for me to do what I can in my own house etc. I am going to also be starting a paid patron page soon for people who really want to learn photography.. so, I think this was a good practice video for that. Because in that situation, its all about helping people understand things etc. Hopefully one day I can get back to more creative content :-)
