  • For value and quality, you cannot beat the price and caliber you get when you choose Sparrows Kick Start lockpicking set.
Not only do you get a great case to hold the set, you also get a Standard Short Hook, a Triple Peak Rake, a City Rake, and my favorite, the Offset Hybrid hook combining a diamond and a shallow hook.
Also worth the money is the re-pinnable metal, practice lock with a small window aptly called the Sparrows Cutaway Lock.
Both are great to start a new hobby with and will not disappoint.

I really enjoy sparrows picks. The quality for the cost can’t be beaten in my opinion.

I started with the kickstart, and while I don't regret it they have a hooker set that is probably 100 times more useful for spp.

Great video and 100% agree with the recommendation. I do wish that more people would make a starter set without rakes (just my personal preference) and more hooks. I love the sparrows stuff and the cut away lock is one of the best deals of any pick maker. Add a reload kit (which is also a fantastic deal) and you are just fully loaded.

And I agree with you, raking takes all the fun out of it. That is the fun part, solving the puzzle of binding order.

Hope it brings you lots of opens. My fav of the set is the hybrid offset, ended up picking them up in .020 and .015 as well.

I would disagree as to regarding your quick dismissiveness of sets from Amazon.
Not all of them are bad, the ones that are painted black are in fact spring steel and while not all picks can be sparrows spring steel is still decent for the money.
I in fact have 2 spring steel sets bought from wish.com they are still in good shape.
And any cheap set can be modified to give it a better feel.
Shrink tubing on the handles for improved grip, and improving profile with a bit of light sanding.
Or simply working with the cheap set to break it in and the paint end up flaking off over time.
Not all pick sets are going to win a beauty contest and it still comes down to the picker not the picks.
I’ve seen some very slow and lazy delivery times with sparrows during my one and only time buying from them.
At least with Amazon if it says free 3 day delivery they stand by their word.
I use all brands of picks, Southord, Sparrows, Secure Pro, KLOM, Ye Hong.
I’ve got enough picks, and tension wrenches to make at least 4 elite Multipick sets if I laid them all out in a single video.
Spring steel is also cheap and it’s in wiper blades and street sweeper bristles it’s a good material and can be used to make picks and tension wrenches.
No material is going to be absolutely perfect for everyone and people will always want something to suit them.
Also for the absolute beginner they will likely stick with just raking because it’s a low skill attack and easy to master to give them confidence in being able to pick a lock.
Masterlock very easy to rake, Kwikset, Weiser, Faultless which is for several deadbolts, Hyper Tough which is a Walmart brand rakes fast and easy for their padlocks.
Old used locks are very easily raked too, when I first got into picking I looked for a set that didn’t give me 4 picks and few tension wrenches I went for a complete set.
Now if the person being given the kickstart set isn’t going to stay with lock picking than it’s a cheap loss but there are still more sets on the market that give you both quantity and quality.

Thank you for your thoughts, you are right, I was probably a little too dismissive on the Amazon sets. I have personally never used them, only heard from others how they are. Really appreciate your feedback, thanks again.

@@secPhilomath And I appreciate your candor, it’s not easy to let go of the stigma of the cheaper sets on the market especially if they are not sold by sparrows, also keep in mind that some people started out learning with paper clips and Bobby pins.
Now about a year ago a lot of the lock pick sets on Amazon were in the $15-$20 range, and eBay also had cheap sets lately the price has shot up to $25-$30 and the price will fluctuate, and often people might be forced to turn to sites like Banggood and others like it and also be stuck waiting 2-3 weeks for something to come in the mail from China.
Another place they could look into is BudK.com they sell lock picks under the name Secure Pro if you look at my channel you will see many pick sets that I have bought or even been given.
I recently bought the largest Secure Pro set BudK had and it works remarkably well just as effective as any other brand on the market.
A lot of people look at the age of a company that’s in business before they buy from them.
Southord has been in business since 1989 but sparrows doesn’t mention any date of origin which I find a bit shady.
I know HPC has been around for a while and it’s name changed to Hudson but they still sell lock picks.
I’ll tell you something else that will shock you, Sparrows for all it’s bluster and hype of it’s supposedly all made in the USA and Canada is a lie many of its products are made in China such as The Gridlock set, the chaos card, and the Ultra Decoder I’ve shown that in my videos too which made me even more unpopular but the truth can’t denied when proof is shown.
I cordially invite you and your subscribers to also take a look at my channel because seeing is believing and you might find the other videos helpful and educational.
