James has been daily driving the Pixel Watch 1 for about a year now and it seems like the Pixel Watch 2 could fix a lot of the annoyances he's had. With better battery life, more accurate health tracking and the same great (but non-repairable...) design, will James be convinced to upgrade?

You can set the watch to stay "unlocked" while you're wearing it. So you only have to put in your PIN/pattern when you first put you watch on, at the start of your day. Or whenever you take it off and put it back on. At least I can do that on my Fossil Gen 6 Android Wear watch.

I got this free with my pixel and I was astounded to find out that not only did google not offer any repairs on the watch, but there are also zero spare parts for it as well! That being said it is pretty good and I'm getting a way faster charging speed than advertised. Its usually about 30 to 40 minutes for it to get from 10% to 100%.

I wouldn't have paid $350 for this on my own, but getting it for free with the 8 Pro was a nice bonus. I hated the pin charger at first because you do have to align it, but it charges FAST. Coming from a Galaxy Watch5 I think this is a much much nicer looking watch but the OS needs some work. Not bad for a gen 2 though. They need to make some leaps to justify the price tag though, imo.

      seriously.
Samsung had a chance to buy Android, that would be an amazing timeline to live in.
It is so much more beneficial to Google to just surrender to Samsung.
Collaborate with Samsung to create the ecosystem consisting of Google Products.
Considering Samsung has partnership with Microsoft as well, it would be so nice to have it all work together.
nonetheless, Samsung still did manage to create a nice ecosystem anyways.
but Google should just let Samsung handle it.
and focus on it's services to integrate, like Assistant, Maps, Search, AI, Cameras, etc
Imagine Samsung Camera hardware with Google Camera Software.

@@MarcSpctrI’m just gonna correct this as someone who works for an agency that works with Google on certain products. Android going to Samsung would not be good. As without android Chromebooks won’t be around, so windows and Mac will have no incentive to make more competitive devices. Same for Samsung having a monopoly won’t help. Google also gives android to these oem for free. If Samsung owns it costs of phones will go up by about £100/dollars as Samsung would charge for access to android. That will affect pricing on iOS too to go up and lower end devices increase and budget becomes more expensive too. Whole reason android is buggy in Google is as they’re focused on Ai more then software currently. Also most products Google use get supported longer then the rest and are built to last longer and do get developed on as they age.

this is the second time i've seen the review express frustration about the PIN/pattern unlock affecting google-pay. once you put the PIN in, you DON"T need to do it again unless YOU TAKE OFF THE WATCH! I put the watch on in the morning, enter the PIN, and use it the rest of the day without having to enter it again, even when I pay with the watch, it's just a double click on the crown, choose the card, pay. I never have to put the PIN in after the first time when I put it on my wrist.

I have the Pixel Watch 2 and I'm very happy with the battery life. It's on-par with my Apple Watch 7. The only thing I don't like about it is the new charger. I hate the pins! I have a bunch of wireless charging bases for watches and I can't use any of them with the Pixel Watch 2. Now I have to carry one more cable when I travel just for the bloody watch. Really irritating.

As long as I can swap out the batteries on my Gear S2 and as long as the main PCB is not damaged, I will continue buying batteries and maybe used cases if something happens to the case and just moving the main PCB.
its lasted me since the note 7 fire debacle with minor repairs over time. the software is jank even on a new samsung S22 ultra/S23 ultra. but it does notifications and watch things fine for a full day with time to spare, and charged overnight.
my next smart watch will probably be an expensive Garmin for the fitness, hiking maps, etc.

I did vote with my wallet. Premium construction and nice design are must haves. I got the GW5Pro because titanium case, saphyre crystal OLED, then got a metal mesh band. Lasts 2-3 days or even 4 with always on display off.
Before this I had the original Huawei Watch for 9 years because of the same premium construction idea. The thing still looks new, it's just slow. It also somehow still looks better than any other wearable ever released.
