Folks jammed into convention halls at 5:30AM for Morning Prayer! As Mother Shaw prayed, the presence of the Holy Spirit was palpable, hovering in the atmosphere. A supernatural silence covered that place, except one, who'd speak in tongues. Mother Shaw interpreted them & people praised God even more. God literally spoke thru these gifts & the real Spirit moved! She always prayed "To God Be the Glory," & NEVER made it about herself or spiritual gifts; but about God, whom she called "The Big He".
Her spirit reminds of Mother Deola Wells-Johnson. She's the asst. pastor at Temple of Deliverance, Bishop Patterson's church. I was under her when I was in Memphis...Mother Shaw reminds me so much of her.
Mother Shaw she's something I had the chance of being in her presence some time back she is a powerful prayer power house...... All I can say is pray mother.....
this is my first time seeing her and I am so moved and touched by this and the other three (3) posting of her on this site. wow, it is my prayer to be that spiritually close to God.
My mother would purchase tapes of the great Mother Shaw leading the morning prayer at the Women's Convention in the 80's and we'd listen to them at home. I wish we still had those priceless tapes.
Thank Jehovah God for the Mother and Father of Zion. Their teaching on prayer and holiness living was not being taught, but they lived holy lives unto the Lord.
Very anointed....reminds me of the scripture in Roman 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. I love this kind of prayer!
i enjoyed and was blessed by the old prayer bands too! i miss them and those old mothers. they strenthened me so much. wish they had those prayer bands now! They are so needed now!

Thank God for the mothers of the church. Mother Shaw didn't play. I was to told that the saints would be at 5 am prayer during the convocation and it would be packed.
Actually, Bishop Ithiel Clemons, who hosted the Prayer Clinics wanted the next genereation to carry on her style of prayer, so it would not be lost. He encouraged us to "study" her ways, because Mother Shaw's style is so much like Bishop Mason's. She learned much it from him. The bible also says the mark the perfect man. This was Mother Shaw wish as well. Bishop Clemens said not to worry about people mocking those who seek to carry it on. The intent of the heart and a sincere spirit is the key!

The prayer clinic is a continuous stream of praying and testimony/preaching. The wonderful thing was that people knew how to testify without giving the devil the glory, telling their entire life's story, and spilling the beans on someone else's personal life. Every year in Memphis, TN the Church of God in Christ does something similar to the prayer clinic and is led by Evangelist Francis Kelley and a few others. It's powerful!

And if you never heard tongues like these then, you must have just gotten into the C.O.G.I.C. from another planet. If you stayed before GOD and fasted and prayed like this vessel of GOD did, maybe you would speak in those same kind of tongues. stop trying to find something wrong with everybody but yourself.

It's funny because I know of a preacher who emulates her so, that he does the same tongues and hand claps within her prayer. I miss these days, but we should learn from them and not try to mimick such greats in the church. I'm glad you posted this. It takes me back to the ole' time way when I didn't have a worry in the world but to make it to church on time - and later have a good chicken dinner with a red soda:)

Simmons told me at his home when Citadel came into COGIC Central GA. Juris. in summer of 1997 I don't speak lies and that prayer summitt is held in NC always in September

i agree to a degree, cause they had alot of shouting, dancing and NOISE back then too!Cause when you truly spend time with God, you cant help but shout and dance when the move comes. truth be told, they dont even shout and dance enough with the power like they use to!so ALL of the parts of the true pentecostal experience are important!
That red soda was nothing but sugar, artificial taste, more sugar, and a little water. It was like cough syrup. But my favorite red soda - which I can't find here in NC - is Tahitian Treat. Nothing but a diabetes smoothie, but great taste:)
