People that did not come up in those days THINK THAT WAS A LONG INTRO- But that's how we did back then (NO MICROWAVE GOSPEL) Honey! THIS GENERATION ? I tell u!...I DON'T KNOW!?
THEM DAYS WE HAD CHURCH FROM 8P.M TILL 6.AM THE NEXT MORNING AND DID'NT REALIZED WE HAD BEEN IN CHURCH THAT LONG!!..........WAS JUST GLAD TO BE IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD (There was no better place be) :)
back in the day that's the way we did it at The Rock of Ages in Detroit with Ermaleen at the organ and Sister Barbara Robinson director. We would leave church and go to concert in the evening where Mother Clark and her girls were having service. What a joyful time I would always have. She was truly real and annotated.
Yes, that was Vanessa Bell Armstrong....and it was taped at Bailey's Cathedral in Detroit..We had some times back then..We don't have church like that anymore...No more marching in and getting into the spirit..I miss Dr. Clark and I miss the old ways...She is definitely singing up there and has met the king.
That's my Dad @ 2:53.... I loved going to rehearsal with him (sitting in the back of course I was only 5yrs old lol) I learned so much from her. Her rehearsal was was loooooonnnggg but worth it. Love Dr. Mattie Moss Clark ❤️❤️❤️
This is my type of gospel. Heavy organ, choir swaying, intros for days, flat footed, praise. Come on Doctor Moss Clark! I see you Vanessa Bell Armstrong & that’s another power house!
Jacqueline Underwood Yes, Jacqueline. She does not get the credit she deserves. Her voice is something else & when you said a looooong time ago, I feel you! Lol! Yes ma’am!
Dr. Clark recorded this song in 1958 a year after Dorinda was born and this song basically embodies Dorindas entire style of singing. THIS song is basically why Dorinda is considered the "churchy" one of the clark sisters.
@timebomb1914 This is when program wasn't more important than the Lord having His way. I loved when the Spirit could flow freely and there wasn't a hurry in service, like it is today. I miss these days!!! Momma Mattie is sangin, FA REAL!!!
whoa just listening and watching brought back a million memories of attending Sunday service with my grandma and great grandma at Queen Street Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. I miss the days when we would have chuuuch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can keep this contemporary bring back the organs, tambourines, and let's have church.
The choir marching in was OLD TIME CHURCH... We to time conscience now to do that. But I remember when we use to march in, and be lined up down the isle, and HOLLA!!! THAT WAS GOOD CHURCH...
Everybody keep saying Dorinda sound like Mattie but I differ she may move physically like her mother but there style of signing is not the same to me and totally different. Mattie had her own style of singing and not one daughter could match that Perfectly.
This is magnificent. I am so glad that I was raised in the Church and can relate to the power of God in our experience as Blacks in America. This music got us through trying times and tribulations. Even during this pandemic, we can still shout and give God some praise.
Man How i miss this churches today is about money and more money not about having church i mean baptist churches and COGIC both did this Man any more like this would love to see them Thank you for sharing and Yahweh Bless always
There are a few churches down south, not those mega churches, but those smaller Fire Baptized Holiness and Full Gospel Baptist Church that still have services like this,
I'm going to walk (I'm going to walk) I'm going to talk (I'm going to talk) I'm going to sing (I'm going to sing) For the heavenly King (For the heavenly King) I want to be there (When they march around the wall) I want to be there (When the general roll is called) They tell me that the half (Has never been told) But the Holy Ghost (took control)
Sammie, such a beautiful statement. Sorry about the loss of your loved one. That said, if you wanted to shout or join in singing. You had the right. Sending your dad the way in which you wanted. Honor him, and if that meant shouting, or singing you do. Blessings to you.
I've only ever heard my Mama sing this song and I'm not a church goer but it's probably the only gospel song i know by heart. My mother's rendition of course.
Gosh, I miss the choirs marching in! I love this! I have this song from the original recording back in the 1960's! It's a little slower, but is still power packed!! My My My!
I had no idea my nana sang with Dr. Mattie Moss Clark this song is so dear to me and legendary, this woman paved the way for the COGIC distinct sound Rest on to her and my nana 💕
Wow this just brought back so many memories I remember when I was about 12 years old in the choir every 2nd Sunday we would march in singing this song………. Churches today aren’t like that man I miss times like this R.I.P DR CLARK
The sight of all manner of BLACK PEOPLE full of joy and rocking it is a needful thing right now. Mattie Moss Clark: On My Way To Heaven The lady in black sequins is Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Tell somebody. If you don't who will? The devil is a liar w stiff competition.
@timebomb1914- That is how they did it back in the day. I miss when choirs marched into the choir stand. It added SO much presence IF the choir was anointed. I used to love when my old Church used to march in! LOL!
I will be SO FULL OF JOY if I walk into a church TODAY and experience THIS!!!! The last time I experienced this type of worship was at the funeral for my father in law mother. I jumped up! Lol! They sent her out RIGHT! LOVED IT!!!!
Margaret Douroux is a Living Legend!!!! I just really found out about who she is and her accomplishments this past week at the Hampton University Minister's Conference.
This was the Reunion of SW Michigan State Choir and this was one of the songs that they originally sang, so I'm sure it wasn't too foreign to them even though she was known for teaching a song in 5 minutes or less.
It’s interesting cuz when I was really little and tryna sang Shirley was my favorite!!! And As a grown person got re introduced to Auntie Do-Do and now she’s my favorite and I’m actually sangin now similar to her! And because she reminds me of Shirley(my type of singing) is why I love Dorinda sooo much!!!
I REALLY miss the choir marching in. What can we do to bring this back? I'm tired of these new ways. The church has no Spirit anymore. I have a better time at home. Church today for a large part seems phony and plastic.
I agree.now everything in church is all about timing, they time how long we have to sing time how long you have to preach.most of all they time how long we have service.most church now are only one hour and then gone home,No service in the evening.
I wish our stilled marched in. I agree it is the hi-lite to the service but our pastor stopped because if all choirs don't march in then no choir marches in.
There's nothing like the beauty of the black church.

Vanessa Bell Armstrong was on the choir back in the 60s
That's amazing!!! I love her!
Vanessa, Niecey and Twinkie were the youngest members in Dr. Mattie Moss Clark Choir back in the day. They debuted back in 1967.
Sister Clark looks so adorable back then as well as before she died.
