Adam Aird (Adam's Fish & Chips) was my Grandfather. Thanks for sharing this, it's great!

I am not a Strathaven man but I visited Strathaven a lot when I was young (now 82 yo) and I remember Adam`s Fish & Chips, my favourite was a Black pudding supper & a bottle of Irn Bru, Wish it was still here. I mean the Chip shop.

We used to jump off the 54 bus just where the cameraman was. Some drivers would accelerate up the hill just to make it more 'interesting' for us. The town library was a few yards up Todshill Street from there, next to Corney's Close, although the name plate said 'Gas Close' back then. A lot of folk think I'm havering when I say there was a library there.
I can just make out the old jail in the background, just in front of where the Telecom building is today. I remember playing in it. The cells were in the basement, and there were trapdoors upstairs. Being imaginative youngsters, we used to think that the trapdoors were used for hanging the prisoners, but they were probably used for delivering and retrieving food and slop buckets from the cells. A boy in my street set fire to it.
