Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2

  • For the first time in its 3 year history, the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash now closely resembles its racing sibling. But because this shoe is designed for mid foot strikers, it’s not exactly the training companion to the Wave Rebellion Pro for me. Nevertheless, Mizuno has made a pretty good shoe here that I enjoy for easy and recovery efforts.

    I’m a heel striker and somehow most of the shoes that you have enjoyed have worked well for me (Novablast 3, DN2, Rebel V3, Adidas SL, The Triumph). I can’t have every shoe that’s out there and I’ve decided not to even consider certain brands like this one unless you thought it was the best shoes you ever tried. Still waiting for you recommended shoes of the year so I could hopefully get them whenever they go on sale for my next year runs.

    Working hard and traveling a lot - stay healthy! I see you're headed to London for the marathon and will be at one of my favorite shops - SOAR. Love their stuff, even better when it's on sale 😊!

    Retired D1 guy… just did a relay across the state of Ohio, mostly wearing this shoe (and supercomp) the shoe is real nice. It is fast and can handle 5:20s with ease. I’m a power based runner vs cadence based and true forefoot striker. Highly recommend if you are similar. Very great rebound/cushion. A lighter/faster supercomp trainer.

      Not to argue with the great @kofuzi but as a heavy striker this thing is fast.

    Late to the game as I just finally got these, RW finally got my size in the blue colorway. Absolutely LOVED this shoe with my midfoot to forefoot strike. 105F heat index and my HR was lower than usual (upper 130s) while having 4 miles MP effort in my 10 miler. Had no problem picking up the pace in a couple places when I pushed but super smooth when I backed off the pace. I guess I really need to try the WRP 2 now as it could be a phenomenal marathon racing shoe for me. This was way better to me than the Boston 12 since much softer.

    This is type midsole geometry was what I thought sketchers M-strike would become. Sadly Mizuno running shoes aren't sold locally anymore from where I'm from. Great review. Thank you. :)

      I used to love sketchers... They've fallen off my radar. I feel like they were ahead of the game for a long time.

    In a world where the DN2 didn't exist, I'd probably reach for my B12 more often. But it's still, objectively, a _great_ shoe. How can you hate on a shoe that has Lightstrike Pro in it, even if it isn't full length? Glad you've softened your stance on it a bit.

    • @Tretesdude
      @Tretesdude Před 3 měsíci +1

      Kofuzi is right, I have B12, they're just OK shoes, Adizero SL is better for me.

      @runnin3216 Před 3 měsíci +3

      It is pretty easy to hate on shoes with Lightstrike Pro. Adidas uppers, particularly the heel collar, are really bad. They perform well under foot, but it doesn't mean much when it is chewing up my Achilles. I am sure that the upper will be the reason I prefer the Deviate 2 I just picked up over the Boston 12.

      @tieloo8842 Před 3 měsíci

      “how can you hate on a shoe that has lightstrike pro in it, even if it isn’t full length?” that statement alone is very subjective. telling ppl what works for you should be working for them too like what you’re trying to imply is just absurd.

    Nice, amazing review, I hoped to be it more like a "easy long run" trainer or a daily trainer...
    Edid: I use the Boston12 also as a easy long run to daily trainer... and works the best for me at these paces.

    1st run 4 miles ez recovery The shoe was surprisingly easy to run in. Stability was good cornering at slow speeds. Look forward to running faster to see how it goes.

    I think the only reason to buy this is as a companion to the RP2. This shoe teaches your foot to land "correctly" so as to take wear and tear off your RP2s.

    I agree I like my flash 2's at medium to slower pace than expected but that's okay I have a place for it in my rotation :) Maybe I am a forefoot striker and didn't know it lol what is your favorite fast pace forefoot shoes for marathon race day?

    @kofuzi i am pretty sure I just saw you on my Peleton video running Chicago's Lakeshore path! It is the 45 min video Chicago scenic ride, and you appear around minute 33 running southbound in a blue shirt (on the north side). I don't know how old the video is but it seems to be an early Spring day, cloudy. Check it out!

    I felt the exact same way when running in this shoe. I'm a forefoot striker, and it still doesn't have that pop that you'd find in a carbon plated racer. I've been using it as a daily trainer, and while it's comfortable and forgiving on easy days, it isn't as versatile as I had hoped, which is disappointing for a 180 dollar shoe.

    glass fiber reinforced plastic is plastic (usually nylon) with fiberglass sprinkled in to provide extra strength. so technically it is fiberglass sorta

    I'm a mid to forefoot striker depending on pace, but what would be interesting is how this shoe performs on downhills. Not sure if this shoe would fit the bill for hilly terrain.

      I just got this shoe and its great uphill and downhill for me. Its a really good shoe. First shoe to make me smile during a run in a while. For reference, I have 20+ shoes in rotation, test for some brands and do 50-70mpw at 61 years young.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  Před 2 měsíci

      I have my own preferences, but I think the right answer depends on the runner. I think if a person has been a mizuno fan previously, the rebellion flash 2 is going to be very exciting. conversely, if mizuno shoes haven't been all that exciting to you in the past, this one probably isn't going to change your mind
