Chromebooks were made for students for the most part and i am right they were even comming with a matlab free version and allowance as long as you could give your student pass codes. But more than half of students payed for something they couldn't use at its best, any student that won't run any animation or photo and video lab program(like Photoshop and film lab)could do their job with a Lenovo yoga book that on a much cheaper it focuses on the most important needs of a student(unlike chromabook)such as taking notes, having multitasking capability for youtube and secondary tanks like word.
Honestly.Chromabook was for the demanding students, students just went with the guaranteed option(i dont blame them).

You get an i5, normally 4-8gb ram, the best laptop keyboard about, and the durability of a freakin rock, even if it's a little chunky by todays standards, it's smaller than the used laptop in this video. Personally I have an x230t which has full touchscreen and an ips panel, the regular x230 can be had under the $200 budget easily.

@@drnsells3036 If you need a decent machine for longer periods of work e.g. database or CRM it's a good laptop. I also use it for rendering videos on Premier pro as well but only short ones like 4 - 10 minutes. Since there's no dedicated graphics chip you can only play games up to 2013 with medium settings or those that don't demand higher specs. The Core i5-3320M processor on this laptop works okay. It doesn't feel like you're having to wait for apps to open. Make sure you don't have any bloatware installed though. Also, I've doubled the RAM on mine to 8GB obviously since most of my work is on Google Chrome and everybody knows Chrome is a RAM eater. If you're tight on budget like I am and need something for light to medium work loads, then this is a dependable machine. The $140-210 price is good but don't pay anything more than that. Cheers!

@@drnsells3036 Hey! I have the AMD model and I want to say that the Intel+AMD combo is excellent. I have since moved on from this laptop but I do come back and check the video comments as I have owned this laptop in the past.
I used a quad core processor, the SR20X, and the AMD GPU inside was amazing, I overclocked it hard until it finally died one day, but if you're more conservative and consider the cooling ability of the laptop by not putting very hot processors inside, you'll have a brick that's indestructible if you accidentally drop it, a perfect sized panel (not as big as a 15, but don't have to squint like a 13). I played loads of games on it and I can attest that while the GPU worked, it *worked*.
Ignore the battery life as well. I received this laptop as a lab machine, and having the hotswap batteries for long road trips and batteries from other HP laptops is great. I have two 100Wh batteries from a ProBook 6570b and that thing would last decades when playing GameCube games.

I recently got a very lightly used T450 with 8GB RAM, a great battery and a stock power adapter for $115 then up graded to a 256GB SSD - so for a total of $160 I got a top-of-the-line 14" laptop with the best build and keyboard in teh industry that will tear any new $300 POS to shreds.

Great video as always Austin. However you forgot to mention that the Elitebook is extremely upgradeable! Take off that underside and you can access everything. You can even replace the cpu with a 4 cores 8 threads i7. That makes the machine a real beast!

I got one with a second gen i7 and dedicated graphics for just over $100, and upgraded the cpu (yes, a laptop with a socketed cpu). Imo, as long as you don't care too much about having something thin and light, it's a much better option for price/performance.

Got the EliteBook 2570p. It's the 12.5" version of what he presented here. Paid around $230 for it with a Windows 10 license (I run linux mostly, but I need Windows for office stuff and I was getting 3 years warranty if I got a Windows license). Threw in a SSD and another 8 GB of RAM so it has 12 in total. Also replaced the optical drive with a drive caddy. It weighs only about 1.6 kg and the only real disadvantage is the battery life. Otherwise, it's really serviceable - this series actually has a socketed CPU, and the back cover just opens right away. All service information can be found on the HP website - along with videos showing how to do it, I was kinda surprised. Had it for 6 months now and to be honest, I kinda love it.

I have a Chromebook 15 and a refurbished Elitebook with Windows 10 (8GB ram with a 100GB SSD). I use both equally. I prefer my Chromebook for serious movie watching like Netflix because it has a full 1080p screen which is gorgeous. I use my Elitebook for basic web browsing and CZcams. I also got a cheap external DVD drive with it, which works well too (I can't do that with my Chromebook). Mostly I use my Elitebook for when I need to use physical media/burn CDs or DVDs. I got both for about $200-250 each. I will say that my Chromebook does have better Wi-FI and monitor tech and battery life, while the Elitebook has better sound tech (HD audio, which sounds much better with headphones) and access to different browsers other than Chrome, and other installed software like Itunes. My Elitebook also has that cool retro Windows 7 sticker on it, so there's that too! My verdict is to get both!

They're *fantastic* for lightweight tasks, but unless you *really* wanna start digging around under the hood, just get a used old computer and throw a lightweight linux distro on to get a little bit more performance out of it.

If buying it as your primary laptop I would say go for a refurb. BUT spend a little bit more than $200 to get a lot more added value. A manufacturer refurbished E7440 for example seem to hover in the 200-250 dollar range. This gives you a full HD IPS panel, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD, a weight of 1600 gram/3.5 lbs, a far thinner case, a keyboard far superior to that found on the cheaper laptops etc.
