0:30 no matter how many times I watch it, Homer bouncing back into the house, the sound he makes when doing it, and Ned's reaction still makes me laugh my ass off
It's like The Book of Job. For those who don't know, God deliberately tests the faith of one of his greatest supporters by making his life miserable (I.E. Destroying his home and possessions, killing his entire family, infecting him with painful blisters, that kinda stuff) and yet he never once wavers. Flanders is basically this - he probably sees this as a test from God and he'll still go on to save Homer because that's the kind of guy he is.
@First Of All YOU actually need to read your Bible. God took responsibility for Job’s suffering. Job 2:3 God speaking to Satan about Job: “The Lord said to Satan, ‘Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds firm to his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.’” Do not tell people to “read the Bible” if you have not done so yourself and do not know what you are talking about.
@First Of All So what I'm hearing is that God deliberately allowed evil to attack Job in spite of Job doing nothing wrong, then bullied Job relentlessly when Job rightfully got angry about it. That sounds fucked as hell
Even when God wants Homer dead, Flanders kind soul still went back in the burning house to save him. It's poetic. Especially when you consider the burning home symbolizing Hell.
He was on a special mission to keep an eye on Homer the Heretic, Ned has an emergency mini-church in his home if for whatever reason the main church is unavailable so he still had his service with the Reverend on shortwave radio. Rev. Lovejoy was alright with this plan because he needed a break from Ned. >.>
Everyone talking about homer falling is great and all, but I don't see anyone talking about ned kicking in the door. He kicked the door clean off its hinges. I knew he was jacked, but God damn
I swear there is no show that could ever come close to the simpsons in its golden years 😂 that sound Homer makes with his eyes closed gets me every single time lol
Makes you wonder if karma has a sense of humor. "I'll reward your good deed in the future, but right now I'm in the mood to mess with you a bit. Think of it as a test while I laugh my ass off."
My question: Would Homer have done the same for Ned? I don't think Homer would've let Ned die, but at the same time I can't see Homer risking his own life to save a man he ridicules and exploits whenever he can.
For the first 10 seasons home was a normal husband... a little aloof, but a caring person that would do anything for his family... and would do the right thing like save Ned's leftorium. He would hesitate for sure, but I'm sure talking to his brain or using his imagination to have a Supreme hero status afterwards, that he would save Ned for sure
I didn't realise until now how much Flanders is built: he easily carried a man nearly double his size on his shoulders and up a set of stairs as if it was nothing... before throwing said load out of a window!
freemantle85: If you were homer and a regular "Church Goer" we're to save you? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't care if he was at church or not! Ever heard of divine intervention?
Whenever I watch this episode, I always think how scenes like this would be done if this were a real life comedy series, all pyrotechnics and flame bars!!
Not to say they couldn't do it in real life, but that is one of the greatest things about animation. There's no limits to what can be done, since you don't need to worry about special effects or actor safety.
If I recall the rest of the family was in Church whilst this happened...why wasn't Ned? I do love Flanders's "okay," when Homer bounced into the window. Just a "well, this is going to happen," resignation.
You left out the best part which also happens to be one of the funniest moments in the history of The Simpsons. It's when Homer half awakens on the couch and days, "Marge turn down the heat.".
0:30 That wasn’t God’s way of telling Flanders to let Homer die. That was God’s way of calling Flanders an idiot for taking Homer upstairs instead of just breaking through that window to escape.
I love how Flanders takes the opportunity to do several backwards somersaults.
you mean two somersaults
And he stuck the landing. You can hear him landing on his shoes...lol.
people jumping from high places usually will flap their hands to keep them righted-ITS A FUCKING CARTOON.
Flanders is fit AF for 60 years old!
@@mr.hulkingnonsense1030 big yikes... go ahead and look up the word somersault ya dumbdumb
0:30 no matter how many times I watch it, Homer bouncing back into the house, the sound he makes when doing it, and Ned's reaction still makes me laugh my ass off
Absolute gold 🤣🤣🤣
its the way the camera tracks and zooms to follow him
Also the perfect home shaped hole in the glass 😂
Don't swear
okay.
I feel like this was God telling Ned it was okay to give up on Homer at this point, but Ned is too good a guy to even entertain the thought.
@First Of All he allowed the Devil to do it
@First Of All So God takes advice from the devil?
@First Of All YOU actually need to read your Bible. God took responsibility for Job’s suffering. Job 2:3 God speaking to Satan about Job: “The Lord said to Satan, ‘Have you considered My servant Job? Now I know Flanders is buff under that sweater, but even so, carrying Homer up the stairs like that is nothing short of remarkable
And he’s 60
Just learned that. I always thought Flanders was mid 40's at oldest.
@@doyen6565 I was surprised too.
He did all that in a major fire suffering from extreme heat and smoke inhalation.
It's called the fireman's carry. Hold the victim over your shoulders to distribute the weight evenly.
Ned Flanders really is TV's best neighbor

2. The way Homer bounced back in a burning house was hilarious XD
No Kidding!
Glad to know we both watched the same video
@@YurimoHikashi I was in my teens when that episode came out! its one of my faves
3. Nothing wrong with me
We know
The sound he made when he bounced back 😂😂😂
The look on Ned's face after is what sells it 😆 🤣
0:31 The noise he makes always gets me😂
Put it on loop lol
Iuuuauaua
The way he stays in a tpose shape is so damn funny to me after all these years
The sound homer makes is the most hilarious and pathetic sound a man can make. Classic Simpsons is the best
0:31 "Yehhghhhhgh" (crash)
“Okay...” (thud)
I love the homer shaped hole in the window afterwards.
When I first saw Homer bounce back into the house in 1997, I burst out laughing. And I still burst out laughing every time I see it now.
One of my best hard laughs with the Simpsons ! To this day. The animation is everything !
impossible. anyone laughing back then wouldn't be alive today.
One of the best Simpsons visual gags no doubt.
My moment is when Homer falls down the cliff, not because his jump across the gorge was far enough, but because the ambulance crashes into a tree.
Jokes on you man. I was doing heroin in eastern europe back in 97. Always had a spoon with me if you know what i mean.
Kent Brockman: "Fire...man's oldest foe. Insatiable, remorseless, unquenchable...."
Wiggum: "Hey, it's out!"
XD XD XD
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
"Coming up next. Which are better? Springy clothes pins, or the other kind?"
It’s the frail “EuuUuugh” from Homer for me!!LMAO 😭😭😭
Even when God wants Homer dead, Flanders kind soul still went back in the burning house to save him. It's poetic. Especially when you consider the burning home symbolizing Hell.
What? What about Lovejoy's speech at the end, about the hearts of his friends and neighbors?
I remember Ned reassuring Homer that his house catching on fire wasn't an act of God after all.
God was actually okay with Homer skipping Church.
Homer bouncing back through the window is maybe the funniest visual gag they ever did on this show. 😆
Idk, Homer emerging from the hedge has it tied imo
The way Homer bounced back into the house was hilarious
The way Flanders bounced back into the house to save Homer was badass
ned is just the guy we should try to be sometimes
Homer bouncing was hilarious but Ned backflipping later after sighing...
Homer flying into the house was already funny, but the way Ned does these every-day-saltos just kills it.😅
Bro I was 15 when I saw this premier on fox.... I'm 40 now and still laughing my ass off every time Homer bounces off that mattress
I think this episode premiered in 1992
I feel like after Homer bounced back Ned wondered, just for a second, "maybe God wants him to die."
Lolz! When Flanders goes NOOOOOOO when his exit strategy fails, I laughed so hard xD
To everyone wondering why Flanders wasn't in church that day: him saving Homer more than makes up for it.
Isn't he Evangelistic? Pretty sure he would go to church later that morning.
He could’ve gone to an earlier service. Churches tend to have more than one service on Sunday.
He was on a special mission to keep an eye on Homer the Heretic, Ned has an emergency mini-church in his home if for whatever reason the main church is unavailable so he still had his service with the Reverend on shortwave radio. Rev. Lovejoy was alright with this plan because he needed a break from Ned. >.>
The replay graph on this is perfect.
The Lord did guide Homer to the mattress square and true...but him *staying* there was not part of the deal :D
That was a sick double backflip
That nooo at 0:10 cracks me up every time.
Quality Flanders
Same. 😄
0:34 I was a school teacher for years and I would say this like this probably several times a day
I believe it!
Well... Homer did hit the mattress, Ned didn't say anything about staying on it
As it has been said before, "be careful what you pray for."
😆
I love Ned's big "NOOOOOOO!" when the front door gets blocked.
I still like the house fire from "Homer Goes to College" better.
Everyone talking about homer falling is great and all, but I don't see anyone talking about ned kicking in the door. He kicked the door clean off its hinges. I knew he was jacked, but God damn
Only Ned Flanders could be brave enough to survive a burning house just to save his neighbor.
How the hell did Ned get out of the burning floor and back up on his feet at 0:17? It's bugged me for years lol
The guy is shredded bro, and also God is on his side lol
He did a pull up on homer’s body
stupid sexy flanders
used homer as a leverage?
A wizard did it
Flanders went straight to acceptance, he just went "Okay...."
Confirmed: Flanders is the strongest citizen in Springfield.
Me and my brother used to laugh a lot for 0:30 :D .
what bugs me is that Ned is supposed to be in church like everyone else. How was he home to save Homer when he never misses church?
maybe he forgot his bible
God brought him there to save homer
I think he was recovering from one of those gilded edges smarts, so he was worshipping at home with one of his safer bibles.
Maybe he had another white wine spritzer and slept in 🤣
He got confused and drank Canadian cider.
I swear there is no show that could ever come close to the simpsons in its golden years 😂 that sound Homer makes with his eyes closed gets me every single time lol
God doesn't make it easy for ol' Ned.
He went into a burning house TWICE to save a man who doesn't even like him. Baller.
Homer bouncing back into the house really got me 🤣
0:21 flanders manages to remove an entire window frame by sliding it.
When u have good intentions but it still fucks everything up anyway. My life in a nutshell. 😂😂
Makes you wonder if karma has a sense of humor. "I'll reward your good deed in the future, but right now I'm in the mood to mess with you a bit. Think of it as a test while I laugh my ass off."
Well my family can’t survive on good intentions. Wasn’t enough to help me save your husband, was it Marge?
0:34
Flanders’ “Ok” is just perfect lol
Absolutely killed me the first time I saw this, probably my favorite nonspoken gag in the whole show.
My question: Would Homer have done the same for Ned?
I don't think Homer would've let Ned die, but at the same time I can't see Homer risking his own life to save a man he ridicules and exploits whenever he can.
Homer would have save him, and steal some of his stuff in the process
Homer would. He'd do something stupid in the process but he would.
In old simpsons yes he would've saved Flanders
Homer would somehowe save his life in the process of borrowing a tool
For the first 10 seasons home was a normal husband... a little aloof, but a caring person that would do anything for his family... and would do the right thing like save Ned's leftorium.
He would hesitate for sure, but I'm sure talking to his brain or using his imagination to have a Supreme hero status afterwards, that he would save Ned for sure
this part almost killed me when I was 7. Was choking with my milk

Do you break a window too?
I didn't realise until now how much Flanders is built: he easily carried a man nearly double his size on his shoulders and up a set of stairs as if it was nothing... before throwing said load out of a window!
Back when Flanders was the modest chad of the show.
It's a little thing, but I love how when Homer bounces back into the house, all Ned can do for a second is stare blankly. I've had moments like that.
Flanders’s “ookaay” has been my go to for over 20 years
I always liked Flander's gymnastic moves
You can count on ned to help you when you need it the most
We not gonna talk about Ned's epic ninja kick opening the door?
Homer defying the laws of physics.
Shouldn't Ned have been in church at the time?
freemantle85: If you were homer and a regular "Church Goer" we're to save you? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't care if he was at church or not! Ever heard of divine intervention?
Ned should be at church yes.
Maybe he was sick that day
I *HATE* this episode, but him bouncing back is extremely hilarious 🤣
This world is not worthy of Flanders.
I pissed myself laughing when homer bounced off the bed into the window
When the fire starts to burn, there's a lesson you must learn
Remember kids, with great mustache comes great responsibility!
The mattress bounce is one of my favorite jokes in all of The Simpsons.😂
I can't help but simile at 0:30 when Homer bounces off the mattress and back into the burning house.
0:31 The noise he makes when he bounces off the mattress is the best part
30 years ago today the funniest scene in the simpsons was broadcast.
No one mention how heavy Homer is and Flanders being all ripped like just carrying like 280lb man over his shoulder like a bag of rice.
Well Flanders is ripped under that sweater.
Flanders was jacked enough to carry homer.
Any time something happens that I don't want to do but have to do I always say "O k" like Flanders.
I think we are expecting Homer to miss the mattress in comedic fashion. Instead, he just bounces back into the house.
0:24 is my favorite scene from The Simpsons
the way Ned sighs after homer was bounced back inside just says "so that's how we're doing this."
The best of "The Simpsons".
I don’t know what product Flanders uses for his hair, but because of its flammable nature, it’s a very good thing, THAT didn’t catch on fire.
That *NOOOOOOO!!!* at 0:10 is best one no one ever talks about. Cliché? Yes! Tropes like that don't get the love it deserves.
love how god throws flanders back in the fire too , the same way he did for homer
a "D'oh!" worthy moment
Every time I see this, it's like the perfect metaphor for my life.
"Everyone's an idiot except me" -homer
Well, you can't say Ned's prayers went unanswered.
If I recall the rest of the family was in Church whilst this happened...why wasn't Ned? I do love Flanders's "okay," when Homer bounced into the window. Just a "well, this is going to happen," resignation.
0:30 God: “Well, I _did_ get him onto the mattress!”
Ned: Dear Lord may your loving hand guide Homer to the mattress square and true!
God: *T Poses Homer back into the house*
0:34 "Oof! That look of defeat!" - TheRealJims, 2019
"Dear Lord, may your loving hand guide Homer to the matress, square and true."
God: "No"
Homer: bounces back into house.
If he'd let Homer burn, Maude would've lived. Think about it.
this, right here - is a perfect meme format.
0:30 When you help your friend break up with an abusive partner but they get back together the next month
Ned I think that was a sign let the man burn.
Even Ned Flanders picks his moments of doing what's right.
At that point Flanders could have just thrown him out the living room window from the start.
You left out the best part which also happens to be one of the funniest moments in the history of The Simpsons. It's when Homer half awakens on the couch and days, "Marge turn down the heat.".
0:31
A common stunt for Homer.
I feel like Ned is just the book of Job.
0:30
That wasn’t God’s way of telling Flanders to let Homer die.
That was God’s way of calling Flanders an idiot for taking Homer upstairs instead of just breaking through that window to escape.
Now that I'm old, I see what a blessing Ned Flanders really is lol
The best part is that Flanders took in the exhaustion and did a summersault to get Homer out of the house again
Ned Flanders is a chad hype machine
Remember what they say, nothing is more "take warning" than God saying "Have it your way."
