How to become Louis Rossmann* in 3 simple steps:
    1. Buy camcorder
    2. Walk around NYC shooting urban decay
2.5. If you come across indoor outdoor dining, make sure to rant about it
    3. Upload videos to CZcams
    * Becoming Louis Rossmann is not guaranteed, in fact you might never reach his level, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I love this incredibly detailed, very literal recount of how to do what Louis does. I am so grateful to have this channel as a reference and to learn SO MUCH about what it took Louis YEARS to figure out in a matter of A FEW HOURS. That is absolutely incredible and ONLY thanks to the existence of this CZcams channel.
As always, thank you, Louis. From the bottom of my heart.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n Pƙed 3 lety +1

I commented too early. Yes, the point is where you fit into the world. Everyone has their own path that they end up following. Non-linearity is the most uncomfortable thing to consider especially when you're "dumped" into the workplace, but when you get your feet wet, that is when you really learn about what you want to spend the rest of your life doing.
Edit: This is why, along with the college "scam" (college can be good for some people, but it's not right for everyone, and it still exists to make money more than anything these days), is why I think the best thing a high school graduate can do is just take a year off, get a job, and contemplate what they want to do with the rest of their lives. If they have the opportunity to do that.

My life has kinda been like that where it was a series of encounters and progression, and now only do i realise that making people happy is exactly what i enjoy and my motivation is relationship and honesty, the money that has flowed from that has been satisfying and maybe not huge but its been honest and civil to the people i help.

I’m a small business owner. The guy who gave me the idea of getting into the business I’m in was my upstairs neighbor who I happened to strike a conversation with when he noticed my back was in bad shape. I had never thought about that business, and I was in school for something entirely different. The sad truth is that the path of going to college and the path of owning a business, RARELY intersect. School requires you conform to certain standards and actions, starting a business is almost the rejection of conformity and standards. Now when I go to school, it also has to have a practical application for my business. I make a horrible student though, teachers are not used to people who have a real world experience that contradicts what they teach.

I went to university for a Master's Degree in Physics, but wasn't too interested in a 'normal' job for someone with that qualification.
I got a job at a data recovery place because it sounded interesting.
It was, but not long after starting, I found myself lacking the drive that I felt when I was studying the universe. I felt that the job was beneath me, but I still did it because I didn't have any other good options in the middle of a pandemic.
I finished working in data recovery yesterday. I start my PhD in Astrophysics in a couple of months.
I've now also got a bunch of cool knowledge and skills that I didn't have 2 years ago. I've also got some interesting contacts by working this job for 2 years.
For a lot of the past 2 years I've felt like I was wasting time I could be spending on better, more lucrative things, but in retrospect, that time was actually pretty valuable and formative for me as a person.

It's hard saying where I'll go from here, but what I do know is I generally enjoy what I do now. Yes, being forced to get a really crummy job not only humbled me, it gave me opportunities to learn about other career paths. I found out getting an apprenticeship as an electrician is actually something I can do (I just asked a customer who was an electrician and he asked for my number; literally called me the next day and told me what to do) even though I decided not to. I learned that a lot of CDL programs are structured to get you driving and earning while paying for your education as you work. I didn't go with either path because I found a way to return to college, but it actually made me feel more relaxed knowing how many employment options I had. I was never stuck in retail as I'd feared, and I wouldn't have learned that if I hadn't but the bullet and grabbed the job I could get at the time.

Just a little note. There's a book about this called "So Good They Can't Ignore You".
The core point of this book is that you should:
    1. Find a job where skill makes a difference.
    2. Get really good at it.
If you're good at a job, you will get to do it your way, which is fulfilling.
If you're bad at it, no one will care what you want and your work life will suck.

This is why I love you and your channel. None of the "if you believe hard enough, you will succeed" bs. Genuine real advice.
I've tried everything from video editing to special effects to game design... where am I today? IS major in college, Running a website selling oversized glasses to furries because I saw a hole in the market and looked up a few CAD videos (fursuitglasses.com if you were wondering). Cringy? Maybe, I guess. But hell is it experience. Brag all you want about your 4 year business degree, I made +$14,000 in my first year innovating on a small idea I had and learned from my mistakes.
I'm not saying a college degree is useless, but getting real world experience is something you can't learn in school. Get out, learn, get beat down, your skin can only get thicker.
    Fail faster.

Lol I worked as a word processor in a large insurance agecy while earning my entire degree in electrical engineering emphasizing CPU design. Graduated in 2002 when all CPU designers worldwide were laid off. Stayed in insurance but moved inyo data analysis. Now making 6 times what I was making then.

its so damn simple, no matter what you are told in school the only thing you are going to be happy at and might get rich from is the thing you love doing because you get a good feeling from it. i used to be happy in my old job but it was minium wage. it was being a first responder. sadly i got disabled and now i cant do that any more. now i have 3 degrees but nothing about that makes me happy.

I had my life so planned
Or planned for me, as I later realized looking back on the highly hierarchical and patriarchal upbringing I had.
I have yet to know what job stability feels like - and while a lot of employers turn their nose up at that, a few have recognized that I come with a unique set of skills that is hard to find.
The sooner you get comfortable with being uncomfortable, the ironically easier everything gets

How do you start? You just do and you keep going when ppl tell you that’s dumb and when you loose money and when you have to ask your mom for a couple hundred bucks as a loan for 2 weeks while you wait for your repairs to resell. You just choose to make a path and sometimes you dbl back but you just keep making a path. Even if you go to college you still do the same thing, it’s just 40k more expensive
