Basel had a really good side then, UCL regulars. The Yakin brothers in particular were terrific.
RVN's 2nd goal unforgettable even over 20 years later after watching it live on TV.
I was in the stadium that evening. We lost, but it was a great time for us. The Manchester United fans were great guests. In the meantime, FC Basel is nothing but a tragedy.

So-called expert pundits and Man Utd 'fans' criticising De Gea should watch Fabian Barthez's performances. One of the worst keepers we ever had!
Yeah Barthez had a good debut season but went downhill very fast after that
He was a lot of fun to watch. And yes, De Gea hate is unwarranted.
You can still love someone and critisise them- or in the case of DDG, also think perhaps eventually soon we will need to upgrade. Barthez is a pretty pertinent example of this, we were still winning things when the likes of him, Bosnich, Carroll, Howard, heck even Ricardo and Goram were around in the post Schmeichel era. But it's a weak link that over time will become the weakest link.
De Gea has made more blunders than Barthez.
